I bought this model as a single replacement for my two other pocket cameras - pana ZS7 and Fuji F200EXR. F300 seems to combine the features of both in one neat package and adds the few new ones. Zoom range is even wider than on Panasonic, and the camera keeps the EXR technology of the F200. It needs to be said that the F300 is not a replacement for the F200 as the model number would suggest. It is the replacement for the F80 which has the smaller 1/2" chip. I was planning to wait for the true upgrade of my F200, but the LCD screen gave up on me the few months after expiration of the warranty period. I do not want to be without the EXR technology now that I got used to it, so I had to act. Repair would cost me almost as much the new F300. So I chose to buy the new model. I would have probably waited in vain anyway, because no self-respecting camera manufacturer would put the large chip, like the one on F200 (1/1.6") on the mega zoom pocket camera. And I value that long zoom more that the large chip. For the times when I need the quality which only the large chips can offer, I own the pocket size Canon S90.
My first impression was the difference in speed. F300 is ready for taking pictures much faster than the F200 thanks in part to the two built-in focusing technologies. Depending on the lighting conditions, the camera just snaps into focus, instead of hunting. There is rotating dial on the back allowing selection of values for up to three different functions faster than by entering the standard menu. The second impression was the unusual absence of linear distortion at the extremes of the zoom range. It is obviously achieved by the in-camera software manipulation of the image. Nice job, Fuji. How about adding the tilt-lens feature to the software mix? Just kidding.
My test pictures comparison between the F300EXR and Pana ZS7 shows Pana having consistently sharper pictures, even when Fuji is set to the High Resolution mode and the pictures are taken from the tripod, eliminating the the digital stabilization image quality downgrade of Fuji in comparison to Pana's optical stabilization. For the same zoom range cameras this seems strange, because the Panasonic model even has the smaller chip. It could be caused perhaps by the software processing of images by the Fuji model. My F200 used to stand it's ground against the ZS7 better. Never mind, I am still going for the EXR technology, the extra zoom and the low light capability of the Fuji. For sharp pictures, I keep the Canon.
Among few annoyances the always-pop-up flash takes the lead. Generally, I avoid using the flash as much as I can. This model has a nice low light capability, allowing the natural light pictures in more situations than before. Unfortunately, the flash unit will pop even when the flash is disabled. I was thinking about using a duct tape to prevent it from popping on me, but the smart Fuji engineers made it impossible to use the camera without the flash unit popped. To make it even more anoying, if I need to use the flash on rare occasions, I have to re-activate the camera beeps first. No beeps - no flash. The unit has the motorized movement, which, besides of wasting the battery is making the camera prone to the premature death if it gets accidentally damaged. This is due to the arbitrary "no pop - no camera use" setup.
CD-only manual is another strange feature. I had the manual for the F200 copied on the flash drive to have it handy anywhere. The F300 manual cannot be copied from the CD. Perhaps Fuji is afraid that somebody may sell the unauthorized copies of the manual on the black market.
Overall, this is a great pocket camera, covering most of possible photo needs when on the move.

Bought to replace 8 year old Canon PowerShot S45(4mp). Sold on functions including sweep panorama. Used EXR, Auto and some manual modes for a week and couldn't achieve as crisp a picture as the old Canon. Beyond viewing on a pc I placed pics from both cameras onto a 42" lcd tv screen. Lots of noise and jagged edges on Fuji pics (as expected). I also expected this from the Canon but the pictures were much cleaner/crisper. Also viewed pictures from a newer Sony DSCW370 in the same manner and they were the best of the 3. I have since returned the Fuji. The panorma picture was nice but i have not printed files to see if it's really worth using. The popup flash is in a bad spot and could lead to many drops if you're not prepared to hold it in a different manner or if someone else is using your camera.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR Digital Camera (Black):

I am a commercial photog with over 30 yrs exp. My experience with pro Digital SLR's is extensive and Fuji Film makes the best. Their sensor technology is superior with Highlight to shadow ratio being the best in the industry. Color saturation is phenomenal and sharpness allows for razor enlargements. The F300 EXR encompasses all this in a point and shoot. I carry this as my personal pocket camera and never worry. Just set it on EXR mode and shoot away.

When arrived my FinePix F300EXR camera,I turned it on and tried to take test picture, I couldn't. In display it says lens control error. After an hour of some operations and shakings it begins to work. It's very naice, but took a long time to figure out the best settings for the camera, but overall it's a good option.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR Digital Camera (Black):

I've just replaced my old Fuji FinePIx E550 from a few years ago (it really didn't need replacing but my husband needed a new point-n-shoot and I was able to get a new one.)

I've always loved Fuji. I even had a medium format rangefinder for a while. I also used to use their film (I love that this camera has a setting for the different films they offer, however I don't know if it really makes a difference).

I have only used it a few times but it seems to produce the quality images I expect. I also love the wide range of lens sizes available (wide-angle being my favorite).
I'm also grateful they kept all of the old settings from my model (including Manual) and I really enjoy some of the new settings, like Natural where 2 shots are taken continuously; one with flash and one without.

It's a lot smaller than my old one and I have a hard time grasping it to take the initial shot; however, I think it's just something I have to get used to.
And I'm not too happy about the flash popping up immediately when the camera is turned on (that is usually where my finger is resting). But, according to the manual you are able to hold it down if you do not want to use it; after you've turned the camera on of course.

I'm traveling to China soon and I can't wait to use it! I'm bringing a separate video camera; however, I will try out the film setting on the Fuji to see if it produces a quality image.

This camera is great for the advanced amateur.

I purchased this camera because the zoom button of my 5 year old Nikon camera didn't work, and I wanted a change. However the quality of the images were very poor, especially in low light situation, and very abnormal chromatic aberration with unnatural colors in the daylight. I returned the camera the next day, and purchased a Nikon instead.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR Digital Camera (Black):

I purchase the camera; however, the feature description of "Intelligent Image Stabilization" is incorrect and as such I'm disappointed. I do possess a Nikon Camera with "image stabilizer"; which is why I can tell the difference with this camera. The camera takes beautiful pictures and has gr8 features; however, the stabilizer bust is a bust

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F300EXR Digital Camera (Black):

-I use this product for landscape, pets, things I wish to memorialize.

-The colors in HD are never flat but exciting. My images appear almost 3D.

-The settings are not intuitive and require some trial and error or .....gasp.....read the manual. Now, the camera is showing me things I didn't even know about.

-The LCD Screen is large but provides inferior feedback (not necessarily a bad thing). On a large screen I am always surprised by the actual good quaility images.

-I use the sunset setting in msot dark shoots. It either doesn't have a flash exposure control or I haven't found it. Without the flash the pictures are better and natural.

-If you are seeking an indoor video device this camera is probably not the one you want.

***Not for the beginning photographer. I believe they would under use the capabilities. This truly is not a point an click camera, though it won't fail at that.***

This is an excellent camera for the size. 15x zoom with this size camera is very good. Only problem I find is Flash pops up every time and I can not find way to stop it from poping up when not needed.

Very powerful features! However, as far as picture quality is concern it's average. In fact, my 5 yr old Sony DSC-T10 takes better pictures than this one. Again, love all the features and camera design, but photo quality has to improve!

I got this camera because I started a 365 project and wanted something easier to carry with me every day than my DSLR would be. It has a great array of settings for various types of photos and the auto-focus is wonderfully fast. However, unless you are shooting in very bright natural light, there is too much noise in the images.
