Most of my photos are shot during my almost daily nature walks. They are mainly of wildlife, plants, and landscapes. Occasionally, humans or pets wander into the frame. Up to now, my go-to lens has been my Canon 100-400mm zoom, mainly to get little birds in distant trees, or big birds on the opposite side of the pond.

I thought a long time before buying this Canon 8-15mm zoom. I wanted a lens to give me truly wide-angle shots with my APS-C sensored Canon 7D. The specifications of this lens and the reputation of the L-series Canon lenses won me over.

This fisheye is just plain fun to use. It renews all sorts of creative energy in me and adds new excitement to my field trips. The lens is very simple to use and only a few basic concepts are necessary to use it to it's fullest. I have the flexibility of making curvy, artsy photos, or more conventional rectangular shots. Post-editing the curvy shots through Adobe Photoshop CS6, I can optionally remove most of the distortion and produce a conventional, rectangular shot with straight edges and a unique perspective at 8mm.

I use the lens without the lens hood, always. In between shooting spots, I put the lens hood and lens cap back on the front for protection while walking. Yes, the lens-cap-to-lens-hood fit is a bit loose. If it ever gets really annoying, I'll just bond the two together with glue. Putting the pair on, and taking them off as a unit, is a fast, simple, quarter-twist operation.

Comments about Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens:

I just got this lens, and so far, I am loving the creative side it brings out! Since it captures so much, you have to rethink composition, but the possibilities are endless! I saw a video on FB of "unleash the power of the fisheye" by Canon...good tips. That was my deciding factor to purchase it. Not one bit sorry. Can't wait to see what I do with it.

Comments about Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens:

It took me months to decide whether or not to buy this lens, because I own a 7D and I knew it wouldn't live up to my expectations of a fish eye lens compared to a full frame camera. But after reading LOTS of reviews, I decided to go for it. And boy am I glad that I did! Some don't like the dark corners in the image when using the 8mm focal length, but I actually like it.Others complained about the cap not being too fit, but it works just fine for me.All in all, I am very satisfied with my purchase and the price is totally worth it!

Comments about Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens:

This is a great lens, but I was disappointed to find that when the lens is set to 8mm on a canon 6D full frame, it doesn't fill the entire frame. There is a circle in the middle of the image. Either way, this lens is great.

Comments about Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens:

I bought this lens for those occasional sky-wide sunrises and sunsets, when no other lens can fully capture the beauty. I also love to do wide-angle night photography of the Milky Way, and often with foreground terrain and objects illuminated by the moon. Star images are the most telling method of lens image quality over the format short of USAF 1951 bar target testing. To test this, I took my first Milky Way pictures with this lens a few nights ago, and I am VERY impressed by the tight, sharp star images, even at f/4 and at different zoom settings. See accompanying picture - Canon 60Da, 30 second exposure, f/4, ISO 2000.

This lens is so great. I used it last week in a club to shoot the event and I was very happy with the images. I was using f/4-f/5/6 for most of my shots. I also got some nice circular shots at 8mmm focal length. The lens comes with a good cap that protects the front element of the lens fine when not in use.

180 degrees...that says it all. With a single shot you can capture just about everything in front of you. I've learned to live with the precariousness of the front glass and lens cap - minor problems compared to the awesome images this lens can deliver. Be careful with close-ups, though; you might be closer to your subject than you realize. I use it on a 5D MkII, mainly for architectural photos. I shoot wider than I actually need and crop down later in Photoshop to loose the inevitable distortion at the edges.

My only complaint is about the lens cap. It is extremely poorly designed and it will fall off when least expected. How Canon has not been able to come up with a better design is beyond me.

Comments about Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM Lens:

I bought this in the attempt to upgrade from my 10-22mm (a great lens itself). I just wanted something a little wider. Just as I thought it would, it definatly delivered. I love this little gem, and am hoping to get lots of use out of it. Only down side that Adobe doesn't have a profile for it in the RAW viewer.
