I received this camera as a birthday gift. However, it was a gift that I had thoroughly researched beforehand. I selected this camera because I wanted a camera that could shoot stills and HD video. I have about six years experience with photography as a hobby and was looking for a camera that offered more creative control. I upgraded from a Canon Powershot A590 (still an excellent camera) to this camera with the 14-42 mm kit lens. I have shot a combination of landscape and sports shots with this camera and am very impressed. The autofocus is fast enough to keep up with Ultimate Frisbee players and I get very crisp shots of the action. The image stabilization of the kit lens is much better than the point and shoot. The burst mode seems to only be limited by the shutter speed. HD video looks great and the heft of the camera coupled with the image stabilization of the kit lens make watchable hand-held HD video possible. In addition, Sony Vegas Movie Studio handles the AVCHD files better than the MOV files from my other HD camcorder. The dials and buttons all have a nice feel to them and there is a dial for most every function on the camera. I would definitely buy this camera again.

I bought this camera in August 2011 and it takes really beautiful pictures, that is, when the shutter actually responds; even in good lighting and using the iA function (and even the flash when I get frustrated), the shutter fails to respond and in some instances, the camera is unable to get a focus - manually adjusting the ISO and other settings doesn't help either. Unfortunately, I have missed some really beautiful and unique photo opps as a result. However, the movie component is beautiful. Essentially, the camera isn't awful but it isn't great.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

Back in the days of film, I was very into photography and photo composition. Then came the Iphone and for years my photos came from my phone or Ipod. Not wanting to lug around a big camera or lens, I found the micro four thirds format to be a great advancement. This camera does it all, from manual settings captured in RAW to fully automatic intelligent exposure, point and shoot. The movable LCD touch screen is amazing and adds to the possibilities setting up great photos.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

I use this in conjunction with my Panny AF-100 because it takes the same lenses (micro 4/3). This is SUPER convenient if I wan to do a little photography. It's different using this camera compared to my Canon Rebel that I sold to replace this. It has all the same great features, plus 720 video (which i haven't played around with yet), but you don't have that shutter sound, because it basically doesn't have one. That will take some getting used to, I think it might have a little but slower response because of that. Other than that, it takes great pictures at a very high resolution (4000x3000 I believe). Crystal clear shots when using a tripod. Love using my Lumix 20mm f/1.7 on this, as well as my Lumix 7-14mm f/4.

Oh, and I love the LCD! It's so great to be able to move it around wherever you want when shooting from odd angles.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

We got this to replace my MIL's old Nikon D50. It's absolutely perfect for her. It has full manual for those who want to get more involved, but the iA is amazing. It gets really nice balanced pictures. And since most people get themselves into overpriced SLR systems, then take the all their pictures in Auto, THIS is the way to go. The kit 14-42 lens is not bad at all, and I love the other available lenses. A much better system to get into for the casual photographer. Good lenses, decent prices, great photos.

The main reason we chose the G2 was because of the built-in EVF which was very important to MIL. But the articulating screen has been the big surprise. She is so excited that she can take photos inconspicuously by holding the camera low and touching the screen to shoot. Now we're looking into getting possibly the GX1 for everyday and travel because we're very happy with Lumix M4/3 line. It's a pain unpacking the pro gear to go to the circus!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

I already own the 20mm and the 14-140mm Lumix lenses (which are used for video work with the AG/AF100), so this camera body is now able to utilize a bunch of nice glass that is just sitting in a video bag most of the time.

The DMC-G2 has an amazing set of auto and manual controls that will keep the pro happy and the amateur taking great pictures. The touch screen is quite helpful for framing shots and reviewing images quickly, and the interface is unobtrusive and efficient.

With an adapter, this camera also excels using older lenses (I'm using 30+ year old Nikkor prime lenses) in full manual mode and getting exceptional results.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

I bought this body to use with my old Zeiss lenses with an adaptor. I also have a Olympus pancake 17mm lens that came with my E-P1. My main camera is a Canon 5D MkII. Olympus lens works flawlessly but I had trouble focusing my manual Zeiss lenses. My aging eyes were not up to resolving the tiny LCD view finder image. The good news is that camera is fast and takes good clear images. I really like the mechanical dual dial and lever controls on top. The build quality is nice and the fit and finish is impressive. I'm not a video guy but the video function seems to work well. The touch screen is so-so and the I'm not crazy about the LCD viewfinder - probably spoiled by the 5D MkII's glass prism. Overall, it's a nice light and compact travel camera with a usable built in flash. I'm not sure I like the rubberize finish and I'm worried that it might start to rub off.Don't expect it to replace your DSLR. With reasonable expectations, I don't see why anyone would not like this camera, especially at the [$] price for the body.

While not as iron-clad as my D2xs, this is a great choice for those, like me, who are willing to give up a little IQ in order to gain a lot of portability. I never took the Nikon DSLR anywhere but on dedicated photo shoots due to size and weight. The G2 and a lens or two is very easy to throw in the messenger bag and have with me much more often.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

I owned a G1 and was looking for a second body to take on a trip to Turkey. I got the G2 because B&H had a great price on it.

I considered the G3 but I see they are simplifying the camera to appeal to less sophisticated users. That isn't me.

The G2 became my prime camera. I used it wit the (old model) 14-45, the 7-14 and the 45-200 Panasonic lenses. I haven't done a critical analysis of the photos but preliminary results are very encouraging.

I still used the G1 as the two cameras are quite similar. I found the G2 detail improvements to be helpful--things like replacing the film mode button on camera top with the intelligent auto button.

I used to be a very conservative photographer, with 90% of my photos taken in aperture priority and 5% or so in shutter priority. I find my self taking advantage of many of the advanced features of this camera.

The camera performs great in all the situations I tried it (low light, moving persons, landscapes). As used to the Panasonic point-and-shoot, the settings also came very handy. I am impressed by the battery life so far. One limitation seems to be high exposure, in which case adjusting shutter time manually does the job. And the JPEG files come out very well, with printing up to 9x12 tried so far.
I got it with the 45-200mm, so I don't know how the default lens behaves.

I have had this camera for 6 months now, and really like it. I bought it with the 20mm pancake and 45-200mm telephoto lens. The autofocus is almost instant, especially if you are used to a compact, and the video is great. The ONLY reason I would consider an upgrade ,is to make larger prints and have less noise at higher ISO's although you can get pretty large ones with this and not sacrifice quality( especially when using the 20mm which is awesome in lowlight) I was thinking of upgrading to a Nikon d5100, but after comparing them in person, the only reason I would get the Nikon is to get higher resolution pictures. Ergonomically the G2 is much better , all the important things like WB and ISO have buttons. The d5100 does not and it feels a lot cheaper as far as build . The wheel for the different shooting modes feels much more solid on the g2, and I really like that you can look at the pictures in the viewfinder on the g2 but not on the Nikon (which is over 2 times the price for the body only). I would shoot more RAW though because the colors aren't always great shooting JPEG. So if you are looking for something compact with DSLR quality pictures, I would say this camera is a bargain.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

This small camera has such a big potential that I chose it over more expensive solutions for my video camera rig.

I am looking in an all manual system with great image and this is the one!

I am a big fan of Panasonic and the M43 cameras. They are not the best cameras but I think they are the best value. I bought the G2 because i have used my G1 so much. The G1 has been through a lot and so I bought the G2 and now I don't have to change lens as much. Also looking forward to making videos.

Want to take good pictures? Invest in glass and buy the DMC-G2 today, it's on sale. This camera has plenty of up-to-date digital features and wont break the bank. Really nice screen. All the buttons and wheels are ergonomically placed and feel really good to use. I'm a fan of the Micro 4/3rds system as a compact way of taking excellent pictures. Want to spend $700 dollars on a camera this year? Buy a $500 lens and put it on the G2 body. Enjoy!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Digital Camera Body:

Purchased the G2 to compliment my GF1...sometimes the SLR design makes more sense; plus I began my photo hobby in the early 70's. Have owned Pentax to Leica 35mm and a couple of P&S digital. I'm not a "first adopter" of the latest, greatest...take time in research, and shop for camera systems. The m43 offerings ultimately offered the portable solution while providing an expanding lens and accessory selection. Chose the G2 when after landscape, building, etc shots..the EVF is more useful than just an LCD. Overall satisfied with my results..use the 14-45 and 20mm most often...with a couple more lenses in my future. The minor gripe is having time to learn all the camera functions and options! I realize the G2 is now 18-24 months "old"...and with the rapidly changing m43 offerings it may not be a "gear heads" choice. But for those seeking a sound camera with a growing number of lens selections, fine build quality and great results..hard to go wrong with the Panasonic m43 line. Last...B&H handled this purchase quickly and the overall experience was top notch..Thanks!

Fun and easy to use. Touch screen is very intuitive. Proximity sensor on the electronic view finder is also a nice touch. Light weight makes it easy to carry around. The price is also reasonable.

The G2 occupies a specific niche -- small and light and takes excellent photos! There are times that I do not want to lug around my SLR and lenses because of the weight. However, I wanted reasonable quality and the flexibility of shooting in manual mode. After reviewing my first day of shooting I am very pleased with the G2 as it exceeded my expectations.
