I find the 35mm a "just right" focal length for 35mm full sensor cameras, in my case the D800E. This lens performs superlatively, the files it produces are extremely detailed, colorful, contrast rich, exhibiting excellent edge to edge sharpness, clarity, and bokeh wide open. The files are deep and rich and just beautiful to look at. It's superior to my Nikkor 20-35mm F2.8 D and that's saying a lot as it is, itself, a fantastic lens; no stretch to say RAW files have a medium format film look to them right out of camera, with JPEG's also looking terrific. It's not perfect however, chromatic aberration (purple/green fringing) does present itself when shot wide open in backlit situations or for subjects with high contrast features like chrome, F1.4 is a bit soft (mostly gone by F1.8 and just improving from there up) but this can actually work to your advantage in certain photographic situations, and it does exhibit a bit of distortion and mild vignetting (describing most fast wide angle lens). Focus is quick, though not the quickest, focus accuracy is perfect with little hunting even in low light, build quality is fantastic assuming composite materials don't offend you (there's plenty of precision machined, expensive metal below the outside covering). Balance and feel on the camera is perfect and it's spent an inordinate amount of time mounted to my D800e as it truly is an ideal focal length for everyday shooting in all sorts of situations/environments. Price is prohibitive but if you what/need a fast 35mm and can justify the price, neither you nor your clients will be disappointed. There are certainly less expensive options available in this focal length but in all my many years of shooting with Nikon products I've never had to return a Nikkor lens nor has one ever let me down. Thus I stay loyal to Nikkor lens even at the high prices they command. I believe camera bodies to be visitors, while glass is family and purchase accordingly; this lens is as good a place to put your money as any… If you love Nikkors's 85mm F1.4 G (I do) then look at this lens as its 35mm little brother, it's easily as good and certainly worthy of the investment. So stop reading and procrastinating and make the jump, I have and am not the least bit sorry I did!!! As always I highly recommend buying from B&H, my favorite retailers of many, many years.

It is sharp @ f/1,4
But...
Slow and noisy AF with huge barrel distortion is huge disappointment!
I am not pixel counter, I will rather photograph my kid and make nice memories instead of waste my precious time by counting technical flaws of the lens.
Hey, I paid almost 2000 euros for the new lens, and for that I expect some ED element in glass, less or NO barrel distortion and Quicker AF response of corse.

Will I sell it? NO! But I would not by it again.

Easily One of the Best Nikkor Lens

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

A must have prime. I have been shooting with it since purchasing it in the last 2 weeks and easily becoming my favorite. This lens is very versatile given the focal length, and well built. It's good for landscape, in tight space, street photography and in low light situations. It is also very capable for portrait, as bokeh is comparable to the 85mm f1.4 portrait lens. Decent focus speed and accuracy.

I have 14-24 2.8g ;24-70 2.8g; 70-200 2.8g. This is my first 1.4g lens, since use this lens, fall in love with this lens. I love the sharpness and beautiful bokeh and the 35mm format.
You can shoot in events such as wedding, graduation and landscape(Milkyway,Start etc). Great for street, portraits, and everyday use. I take out this lens to replace the 14-24 for low light performance。

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

Solid build and balances well on my D800E. Autofocus is sufficiently fast, fairly consistent and significantly better than the Sigma Art 35mm. IQ is very good but not quite as good as the Sigma Art 35mm. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, but whether it was worth paying the premium over the Sigma Art 35mm is debatable. In my case, I was not able to get the Sigma Art to focus consistently on my D800E, so I returned tried the Nikon. BTW, the spec says that this lens has no ED glass vs the 24mm f1.4 which does. What's up with that Nikon?

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

This is one of Nikon's best lenses and is an amazing piece of glass! It's on my D810 90% of the time! In my opinion the 35mm focal length is perfect for landscapes, portraits, architecture, street, and everyday/family photography. The fast f/1.4 aperture allows you to shoot in just about any kind of light and the depth of color it renders is beautiful. This lens is hefty but is well balanced on my camera... feels perfect! I've gone away from using all of my f/2.8 zooms and have rediscovered my love for photography through this magnificent prime lens. My sample is sharp, has excellent bokeh, and built to last! You will not regret owning this lens if you decide to purchased. I plan on getting the 85mm f/1.4 soon and will undoubtedly be shooting with these 2 lenses exclusively!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

I was debating whether or not to buy this lens or the 24-70. Unless you are a pro/photo journalist that must get the shot at all costs (and can sacrifice a little image quality) then this lens is for you. I love the 35mm format and this lens is an incredible lens wide open, where I shoot most of the time. If you are a 1.4 shooter and love to have bokeh in your photographs, then this lens is definitely for you. I also own a 85mm 1.4D and I am debating whether or not to eventually get the 24mm 1.4. So, as you can see, I am a 1.4 junkie...

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

This lens has amazing detail with decent bokeh (although it's definitely not the best bokeh of the Nikkor lenses). Great for street, portraits, and everyday use. When I don't feel like carrying a 24-70 f/2.8 around, I use this lens. If I don't feel like using the tripod in blue hour / nighttime during photo walks, I take out this lens to replace the 24-70 for low light performance. I've even shot friends' weddings with this, which resulted in photos better than the official photographer. The size is great for candids (so people aren't timid by the size). The weather sealing is a plus. Decent weight. Highly recommended.

I had been using both the 24mm and 35mm frequently and when it came down to buy 1 I picked the 35mm. Its amazing. The 24 is a bit too wide sometimes. The 35mm sits right in that sweet spot where you can get wide enough but can still pull off a portrait and get some nice bokeh. Its very sharp at f1.4 where I keep it most of the time. I would honestly say 80% of my shots come from this lens. It's that good.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

A tad soft at f1.4, but great sharpness from f1.8 and higher. Chromatic aberration was strong with D810 at f1.4, dropped off at f1.6, and was not an issue at f1.8 any longer. On D700 chromatic aberration was not an issue at all at f1.4.
Great color reproduction and bokeh! No issues with focus shift. This lens is a worthy companion for a D810. The D810 shows the lens' limits at f1.4, but also brings out the best of this lens from f1.8 and upwards. Good all around, walk around lens, IMO. Great color reproduction and bokeh!

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

I have recently began shooting with prime lenses after using zooms for years. The 35mm is a nice standard length for a full frame camera. I am sure this lens will be on my camera most of the time. The focus is fast and accurate and I love the bokah. The images are as sharp as or sharper than my 24-70 f2.8. It's been interesting to photograph from the same site using both lenses with the zoom set to 35mm. Even going from 2.8 to 2 makes a tremendous difference in the bokah and the subjects really stand out from the background. I'm still getting a feel for just how narrow the depth of field is at 1.4, but sometimes won't have as much of the subject in focus as I had planned. That is my mistake and it is part of the learning curve for a fast lens. The trade off of having your subjects pop and the artistic control is well worth the learning. Image quality is excellent. Only complaint would be the 67mm filter size. I bought a 67mm polarizer and a 67-77mm step up ring.

Awesome lens! Used it on Nov 1st wedding assignment. Shot mostly wide open on D810... First dance; processional; recessional; ceremony; bride getting ready - all very low light conditions and this lens performed admirably. A couple of times it had some trouble focusing... but it was so low-light, I think most lenses would have had difficulty. Landscape images are incredible... colors, saturation; focus; overall image quality is terrific.Would definitely recommend this lens.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

The 35 mm f/1.4 on a Nikon Df is the perfect combination for Street photography. There is no light situation a f1.4 and high ISO of Nikon Df cannot handle. The lens is a little bulky, but one gets the result.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:

First of all, this is a great lens. Shooting on my D600 I consistently get excellent photos with great color. contrast and quality. Being honest, I could probably get more for less money with the Sigma, but I am a Nikon fan, so I didn't.Cons: Definitely soft at 1.4 and much pricier than some other lenses. Otherwise, no complaints.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens:
