I am a volleyball dad and video every tournament, so I needed something that wouldn't take up as much room as a tripod. The Gorillapod seemed to be the answer, and I was very pleased with the magnetic feet. I can now mount the Gorillapod and camera on a steel pole above head level and get every minute of the game without interference. I highly recommend the Gorillapod for those difficult to position locations.

The magnets on this thing are terrific, and the legs are marvelously strong for the size.
I just wish the ball head was a little tighter, or there was a way to adjust the amount of resistance it has. It starts to sink with what seems to me like way too low a weight threshhold. This leads to a situation which requires the camera to be *PERFECTLY LEVEL* (NO EXCEPTIONS), or else it'll sink and end up pointing at the floor or the ceiling.
For me, this strips away the usefulness of the reason I got this tripod. I wanted to be able to set up a small video camera inconspicuously up on stage to record some musical performances, and then leave it while I operate another camera from a less distracting position. I end up having to prop the camera (on the tripod) up against some other stable item in order to prevent it from sagging after I walk away. A tighter ball head could completely solve this problem, and would easily earn this tripod 5 stars from me.

As it is, this tripod is only as strong as its weakest link, and that lands it as a big fat 2. :\

    Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

The stand is easy to adjust and the feet are magnetic which helps keeps it steady. The joint that holds the camera, or in my case - iphone 6, isn't strong enough. It gently starts to sag down and face the floor.

    The neck is too loose!

      Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

Great concept! Almost everything is spot on EXCEPT the neck, (the area that little silver arm is connected to) is too loose. There is (unfortunately) no way to tighten this. I am using a IPhone 4s which is heavy but the tripod should be able to hold it at the intended angle and not slip out of position.

If the tripod is perfectly straight (three legs on a flat surface) and the camera balance is directly above the legs, it will hold it still; but if it is tilted more than 30 degrees (camera looking up or down) the camera will shift to the necks farthest position. It is a slow smooth shift (the neck just seems "snugly loose").

If you are trying to make use of the magnetic feet, (awesome idea) and the camera legs are horizontal to the ground in any degree the camera slowly slips downward due to that nasty thing called gravity.

If there was a way to tighten the 360 degree neck (both the X & Y axis are affected) then this would be the best camera tripod. Due to the loose neck it does not function as designed.

I bought this tripod to use with an iphone 6 plus. I like how compact and flexible it is. Unfortunately, the iphone 6 plus is too heavy for the mount. It works if the iphone is directly above the mount, but if it is angled up or down, the iphone will slowly drop forward.

              Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

The stand is nice and easy to use. The magnetic feet are awesome... way better than expected. The major drawback is the control arm for panning. It is not removable and gets in the way. Also, the panning head is very tight and takes a bit a force to move. So while it may be hypothetically smooth, in practical application, the force required to move it in comparison to the types of leg support of the stand makes it a shaky panning function.

I had to return mine only because my camera was heavier than I thought. This is for small cameras for sure. I can't say the motion was smooth since the weight ratio was too low...the entire rig moved instead. The head would need to be more fluid than it is.

                Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

It would be great if it stayed in place but just the weight of my iPhone 5 makes the tripod top twist down and out of position. I thought it was because of my Otter Box case so I used it completely by itself but the same thing kept happening. If it stays in position for a minute, it will then start falling down again--thus, my video will start with a shot on my head and then end just with my feet in view. I'm not sure why I never read about this problem in previous reviews. I figured it must have been some mistake on my end but I had two different movie industry friends play with it and they were getting the same results. Yes, it moves smoothly. But without someone continually holding it, it quickly moves smoothly OUT of position! Overall, I was disappointed with the product.

                  Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

Haven't had too much time to play with but appears very flexible and pretty sturdy.

I did manage to wrap it around the handlebars on my bike when I went out once and put my iPhone on it, (via adapter), in order to record video while riding. It worked out pretty ok, but had a bit of annoying camera shake. D'oh!

Grips are really helpful and the magnetic feet help keep it connected. Wished the feet were just a tiny bit longer in order to wrap around itself better, though probably not intended to wrap around bicycle handlebars, would be great if it held on securely without the use of a mount.

The actual camera "mount" makes me a little nervous. It's a small piece that looks like it could get lost, but held in pretty securely, surprisingly. The swivel handle works pretty nice, too.

Wish camera mount was "sturdier" or appeared more solid, can't beat the price for a handy lightweight tripod.

a very cool item, but it will NOT hold specified cams without slipping or tilting on its own. it's too small and requires you to stand and hold it, which defets the purpose. go for the hybrid if you want something that can really hold a HD cam!

                        Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

The GorillaPod Video by Joby is the coolest tripod that I ever used. As you can see there are infinate positions only limited by your own imagination. The feet have magnets in them which add the convenience of using metal surfaces to latch on to. The magnets are very strong and able to easily hold my Fujifilm FinePix F770EXR at a 90 degree angle with no problem. The magnets are also coated with a hard rubber, so there are no concerns with scratching the surface that you are using to balance your camera. Finally, the arm that you would assume is primarily used for shooting video is also great for adjusting the camera angle for stills.

This product is best suited for setting up close up shots on a table, next to your subject. it is very flexible and bendable, which allows you to move the camera where you want it and to keep it there.

                        Comments about Joby GorillaPod Video:

I bought this to use for general recording around the house and anywhere I might need to go. The joints are stiff and solid and it holds fast to anything I wrap it around. The magnetic feet are surprisingly strong and will easily keep my small camcorder in it's place. The tilt and pan and quik release all work fine, but I wish I could adjust the resistance of the tilt and pan. Overall, I'm very pleased with this clever little gadget.

The flexibility and the magnets means you can use this tripod just about anywhere. You can make it work where nothing else will. I've considered mounting it to the open sunroof of my car, but have not had a chance.

I've used it with my Flip Mino HD, and with my iPhone 4. All I had to do with the iPhone is use it with the Glif from Studioneat.

For small cameras and for-fun shooting, I don't see the point of any other tripod.

I use this with my Drift Stealth video camera. It is actually my second GorillaPod product. This tripod has the magnetic feet, which have been a fabulous help with stability. If no metal is available, you can still wrap the legs around practically anything to use as a tripod. The camera lever is helpful, too.

the magnets on the feet are fairly strong, but even though my camera is lighter than what it is rated for, they seem a little inadequate. the adjustment mechanisms are a little stiff and it feels like it is going to break if i adjust the ball. there is no screw to tighten the ball, so they just let the friction do its job. maybe it will loosen a bit with age?
