I had first seen the hand strap while watching a CreativeLive (live classroom stream) event and I had never thought of using a hand strap before that. I noticed the photographer using it and thought I'd try it for myself. To start things off, I use the strap as an extra layer of protection, NOT as a means to constantly support the weight of my camera. For that I absolutely swear by BlackRapid (sold here on B&H!) which has revolutionized the way I carry my camera. The purpose of the Canon hand strap for me is extra protection (not trying to sound like a broken record) for many different situations: when I'm not wearing my BlackRapid, in a crowded area where my camera can easily be knocked around, hanging out of a moving vehicle, leaning over an edge, etc.

The strap is very comfortable to wear, quality seems up to par with Canon's standards and I have experienced zero chaffing. I should also mention I use this strap with a Canon battery grip on my 7D, so I do not need to use the tripod mount screw attachment. Even though the details did not list the 7D as compatible, with a battery grip it most certainly is (I asked B&H's Live Chat before purchasing to make sure. They're fantastic to use for those types of questions!).

The hand strap has held up to the test (was photographing snowboarding and had my lens was bumped, my hand lost grip but the strap was there securing the camera to my hand) and I've already recommended it to a number of photography friends.

One quick note on fitting the strap; you certainly need to find your "happy place" with the strap. With the most comfortably-tightened position, my Men's size-Large hands were unable to properly use the shutter click wheel with my index finger. I had to loosen it slightly to where I was able to freely adjust the click wheel.

A second note, there is a quick release adjustment piece that allows for, well, quick adjustments. Very helpful if you anywhere near frozen tundras similar to Minnesota and are wearing gloves, you can simply and quickly adjust for them. I haven't come close to running out of adjustment room wearing Large gloves.

On a last note (I promise) I still had full access to the buttons on the battery grip while in portrait mode. Just making sure I'm covering all the bases here!

Hopefully this is enough information to help you make a decision in protection of your hefty photography investment!

I got tired of the neck strap flopping around and purchased this strap for use on a Canon 70d with a 70-200mm lens attached the majority of the time.
Overall the product works well. It is easy to install and looks good. My main complaint so far is that I noticed(thank goodness), that the locking latch on top of the hand pad comes unlatch sometimes. I just make sure I periodically check it to make sure it's still locked down. Also the screw on mount at the bottom of the camera does not allow the camera to be place flat on a surface. Be aware so your camera doesn't tip over. It does make carrying the camera and heavy lens easier.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):

Glad I went with the Canon product for my 70d.
With the battery grip on the camera, the hand strap works a lot easier for retaining the camera and switching between landscape and portrait photographs than the stock neck strap.

I took the stock neck strap off and attached it to the not needed tripod mount from the hand strap. So I can hang the camera from my neck via the tripod mount if desired.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):

This strap gives the shooter a firm grip on the camera increasing hand held stability and thus sharper photos. Easy to carry around one handed if required (not recommended). A must have if you are shooting on the move.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):

The E1 hand strap on my T3i body with battery grip made the rig so much easier to hold and carry, that when I bought my new 7D mark II with battery grip, another hand strap was an essential item to purchase. The E2 hand strap loops directly into the battery grip on the bottom. If you're not using a grip, there is a removable tripod adapter that screws into the camera's tripod socket. It takes quite a while to get the straps all comfortably adjusted and neatly tucked away. Your right hand will get a lot less tired holding a heavy rig when you have the extra support of a well-adjusted hand strap.

High quality strap. Using on nikon D750 with NO battery grip. Like the adjustment buckle which allows you to tighten after strap stretches with use and temperature variations.

I've used the Canon E1 hand strap for awhile now. I decided to get another hand strap for my other body (5d mark III). Unfortunately Canon stopped making the E1, and the @ knock offs aren't in the same league. The E2 is the next best thing - works well, and I don't need any additional gizmos to attach it to the bottom of the camera. The E2 is not quite as comfortable as the E1, but they're close. The E2 has the attachment for non-pro bodies and is easier to adjust.

Great if you have all of your settings locked in. Adjustable. However, my hands are smaller and dialing down/up I have to remove my hand from the strap or loosen it to make adjustments. I still use it though. Also, you can only use it in place of the shoulder strap as there is only one attachment point on the camera. (I attach it to the camera and then attach the shoulder strap to it.

I can't stand clunky neck straps, and when I've tried to wrap them around my wrist, they looks ridiculous.

This hand strap does the job. I feel like it safely secures the camera to my hand and it really helps prevent fatigue if you're doing long shoots or walking around with your camera (i.e. hiking). The padding is also very comfortable.

I also appreciate that they put a 1/4 inch coupler at the bottom so you can still attach it to a monopod/tripod!

I have done away with the Canon neck strap and am using a Black Rapid setup. I use a Kirk mount attached to the Camera, and have a Kirk QCR1 clamp on the Black Rapid Strap. The Canon Hande Strap attaches nicely to the camera this way. There are times I do not feel like using the Black Rapid, but want more security than simply holding the bare camera. This hand strap gives quite a bit more protection than simply holding the camera by the grip. It still requires care, as the camera can slip out, but it is much better than just the camera grip itself.

The hand strap seems to give better stabilization than just a bare camera. It sometimes requires a little adjustment to get my finger on the buttons, but it is satisfactory.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):

I wanted to try a hand strap to see if it might help reduce the fatigue in my hand during a lengthy shoot.

I've attached the strap to my 5DIII with battery grip. It's not clear from the text or photos how this works with a neck strap. It does. The metal adjustment clip for the top of the camera has an extra slot designed to take the end of your neck strap. Works just fine.

It took some work to make the hand strap as short as I wanted, but I have it there now. I've used it for real only once thus far, and not yet for a long shoot, but it feels comfortable, and I think it will work well.

I haven't tried using the part that screws into the tripod socket yet, but it looks beefy enough. With the battery grip, there is already a connection point for the hand grip.

This was a gift from me for my daughter who called me to say she loves it! It's much more convenient than a long neck strap. She finds it comfy, sturdy, and convenient.

I looked at other options and decided to go with the Canon product because of its build quality. The screw knob that attaches to bottom of camera is a nice idea vs. others who ask you to find a coin to tighten the screw. Overall very happy with this product.

Comments about Canon Hand Strap E2 (Black):

I bought this hand strap for the Canon 70D. I purchased Canon's brand over the other options because it felt more comfortable to the hand. The quality is decent, but overall the strap is a bit pricey. Made in Japan, if that matters to anyone.

Using the strap gives me more grip confidence when holding the camera.
