I was hoping to replace my canon 18-55 (MK II) and 55-250 (MK I) with this lens.
On the 55-250 end of the Tamron PZD, it is definitely an upgrade. Some of the Tamron PZD's advantage over the 55-250 are:
-Auto focus is much faster, and 55-250 is simply frustrating to auto focus (p.s. faster than the 55-250, not other lenses)
-Nearly no noise when auto focusing
-IF, works better with a polarizer
-The colors are amazing!
-Images are quite sharp
-Extra focal length (250-270), sometimes you just need that little bit of extra focal length, but most of the time it doesn't matter.

However, when compared to 18-55, the Tamron PZD has significant distortion on the the 18-55 end, mainly 18-30ish. This distortion can be easily corrected using a photo editing software, but this takes some extra time.

Prior to buying this lens, I read many reviews about comparing this lens to prime lenses and the "L" series.
I personally don't think it is fair to compare images from a super zoom to those from a prime lens. A prime lens usually has sharper images, and is able to get to lower f-stop (I wouldn't say Tamron PZD's bokeh is nice, but acceptable), whereas a super zoom can switch to a large range of focal length easily. They belong to different categories.
As for the "L" series (people like to talk about 24-70L), MAN! THEY ARE EXPENSIVE! You get what you paid for, and I think the Tamron PZD is worth its price, and even more. (And again, it's a super zoom, one should know what to expect from a super zoom, which is not necessarily perfect images)

Application of the lens: the Tamron PZD is a great travel, walk-around lens, because of its zoom range, VC when hand held, and light weight. Sometimes it is also suitable to take event pictures. It works very well when under sufficient light, and when in low light, it's so-so. I recommend using this lens when taking snapshots and candid pictures. You will find surprises :)

I purchased this lens prior to leaving for a holiday in Australia and New Zealand. After shooting nearly 4600 images, I was impressed. Results were good ... the lens was sharp overall but sharper in the mid-range than in the long telephone (270mm). My complaints are these: 1) there was unexpected flare in photos taken in the direction of a brightly lit area and 2) why Tamron chose to offer this lens in a Canon mount when the rotation of the zoom is just the opposite of what you find on Canon lenses is beyond comprehension. It's apparently designed for Nikon with a Canon mount. Nice lens however I would never buy another Tamron for these two reasons. Having said that, the zoom (18-270) is ideal for traveling.

It's a very good all in one lens, but it's a little bit heavy to carry all day long. Instead of it, recommend buying it.

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:

This is a nice compact zoom that is great for travel. The 18-270mm is the equivalent of a 28-430mm in a 355 mm equivalents, and it meant that I could get some great telephoto shots. The VC worked ok - it's a bit strange though because when you press the shutter release half-way to lock focus, the view shifts slightly and the VC is engaged. Overall the lens is reasonably sharp and focuses relatively quickly. I was pleased with that I had this on my trip to SE Asia instead of my 18-55mm and 70-200mm lenses (though I did miss the f2.8 and f4 of the other lenses - it is a bit slow). It has some trouble focusing in low-light. Still for the price it's hard to beat.

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:

I use this as the primary lens for my Cannon EOS camera. It's heavier than the standard 18mm Cannon lens but about the same weight as the Cannon 78-300mm zoom and shorter than this lens at minimum zoom. The Tamron lens replaces both Cannon lens when I'm traveling. It also seems to perform better than the Cannon telephoto in low light conditions.

I'm a newbie when it comes to photography. A little of that and a little of this, but I found a lens that truly live up to its name when it comes to having an all-in-one lens that's fully functional and with its degree of usefulness. Now I don't have to change lens anymore whenever I got to roam around. This lens seemed to deliver what is required of it in almost every situation, maybe except at night. I'm still experimenting on what's the best setting the lens could be use. On the down side 'though, I notice some image distortion in some particular distance especially in taking patterned, linear subjects. I assume all zoom lens have this anyway. But generally I'm happy with Tamron 18-270mm!

I bought this lens to go with my Canon sl-1 which enables me to get by with a small camera body and compact lens when I want to travel lightly. I've only shot around 75 test shots but I am satisfied with the lens. The extensive focal length is handy and it does allow one to take only one lens if you want to travel light. I often travel using my 5d mark 2 with L glass and the combination of the sl1 with the tamron lens makes a long day much easier.I didn't give the lens 5 stars because I haven't used it enough yet.

I use this as my travel lens. Works for landscape, birds (even some in flight, altho' cropping is necessary) and semi-macro (actually close-up). The lock button makes it nice for carrying because it doesn't slide out to full length while you're walking.
I didn't give it 5 stars because, for me, it is a bit heavy for a long time carrying. I have a bridge camera which I will try to see if it's easier weight-wise. But I still want to be able to get good bird pictures, so I will use my Tamron when I don't have to hike long distances.

I used to do family functions, as well bring it with me to family vacation. Took some get pictures up close and awesome pictures from afar. Nothing wrong with it.

I love how light and versatile it is. No problems with creep (yet) and I've used it for 30 minutes pointing straight down from a tripod.
As other reviews have noted, it's soft at the lower and higher ranges, particularly when zooming in. However, most of the from-camera images are OK. The automatic setting at f6.3 in the higher range seems to add fuzziness so it seems best to go to f10. Low light, therefore, requires a high ISO with the resulting grain.
I've had the lens for less than a month, but I've taken a lot of pictures in different circumstances and I'm happy enough that I will keep it.

Moving from Canon to a Tamron lens takes a little getting used to, but I love this lens! Takes great photos - versatile, easy to use - great buy!

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:

Documentary and conceptual imagery has always been my genre of choise, but lately I have been recording wildlife photography. I enjoy the versatility of an all in one lens but always been a bit unsure about the quality of a zoom lens especially at both ends of the zooming spectrum leaning toward the 18mm and the 270mm areas, but after extensive testing I find that this lens is the highest quality I been told about by others that have one. My only regret is that I see so many of them used in public with other photographers (thanks to spotting the gold ring) that I divert my time, concentration, and stop to chat with them about it...Lol. I only wish I could find another zoom lens at F4.5 that ranges from 300mm to 900mm or so at a reasonable price. Then my equipment needs would be complete. Thanks for creating a perfect product.
