First of all, my wife and I are having a baby in the next couple of months. We always told each other we'd get a "nice" DSLR before our first child, and this camera was our choice.

We tossed around the idea of getting the T3, the T4i and this T3i. In the end, we landed on this camera because of the swivel screen, and lower price than the T4i. As our first camera, we decided that this would be more than enough for the next 5-10 years until we decide to upgrade to a newer body. If we ever do... Lenses are interchangeable, so we decided to invest more into them over time. In the end, we just felt the T3i fit our needs in terms of the features it offers and the price point it's at.

The camera starts up right away, and within a second you're ready to take pictures. With the dial on the top, you're able to quickly make changes to the aperture setting, and with a couple of button presses you can use the same dial to change other features such shutter speed, ISO, etc. Changes are quick and easy, which is nice for a first time DSLR user. Another reason we chose the T3i over the T3, is because of the image sensor self cleaner. The T3 lacks this function.

We have paired our camera with the lens kit (18-55), telephoto lens (55-250) and a prime lens (50mm 1.8). We found that for the price of this camera and the lenses I mentioned, we have quite the nice little starter kit. I highly recommend a prime lens, such as the 50mm f 1.8 or even the 40mm pancake lens. This will just allow for great low light shots, and they're smaller lighter and easier to cart around. An excellent choice, we believe.

Since we bought our camera, we've taken roughly 500 photos. I've done a lot of reading and homework on photography since I made the purchase, and I can already tell a difference with my photos. I'd truly recommend you do some reading up on the basics of using the different settings (aperture, ISO, shutter speed, depth of field how to, etc.) before you start shooting. Once you do, practive with your camera. It has made all the difference for me.

We've also paired this camera with a yongnuo yn-568 flash, which works great with this camera. The two can communicate using E-TTL II where the flash on top of the camera body sets off the flash (if it's not mounted in the shoe on top of the camera). It also works great mounted on top, as it quickly recognizes the settings it needs to be at and adjusts based on my settings and zoom. I mention this, just to mention the functionality of the camera in terms of working with other accessories (Canon branded or not). An off camera flash was an EXCELLENT upgrade for us, as it is great in low light and/or used as fill lighting.

The video function is great, as it shoots in 1080p and does 60 fps when in 720p. This is great for slow motion video. We won't use video too much, but the small amount of video we've taken so far with our 50mm lens has been so wonderful, as it's fun to play with the focus and bokeh.

The final feature I'll touch on is the swivel head. It is so nice to use when you don't want to bend down low to take a shot, when you have to hold the camera up high over a crowd or something, or just to give you more functionality in your shots (although we don't use the live function much as I prefer to look through the view finder). It has really come in handy when taking candid shots of others, as I don't have the camera up to my face the whole time and I'm able to simply carry on conversation and take photos at the same time.

The only downside I'll mention that I've found, is the number of shots you get on the camera compared to the T3, just for example. I got about 400 shots on my first charge, where as the T3 gets around 700-800 based on what others have said. Just something to consider. An extra battery may be a must for some.

Overall, my wife and I are more than happy with this camera and the 18-55mm lens that came with it. Whether you're upgrading from another body to this one, or buying your first DSLR, I think you'll be quite satisfied with the ease of use and overall performance of this camera. Give it a try!

I own a Canon 7D and use it 100% for video purposes. I got the T3i as my backup camera, for cutaways and things like that...
It's perfect. You honestly can't even tell which is the 7D and which is the T3i when it's all edited together.
I picked the T3i over the T2i simply for the rotating screen.

As far as my gripe for it goes...the most frustrating thing so far has been matching white balance.
There is NO Kelvin Meter on the T3i. So, on a lot of shoots when everyones matching white balance and tell you to put it on a specific white balance, you can't really do that.
So I'm always left having to do custom white balance on something nearby to match it up with my 7D.
And that's even off sometimes...so, that's sort of a nag.

Everything else is fine though.
The controls are easy. It's lightweight...it's a mini 7D. Less ISO Options, but overall No complaints other than the Kelvin meter.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit:

I use this camera for short films and sometimes for photography. It has excellent image quality, however, for videos, it seems to have a hard time with high ISO. Past 400, the noise becomes quite noticeable. Aside from that, it's really easy to use!

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit:

I use this camera for everyday use (when I am quick enough to pull it out). The picture quality is astounding - I cannot take a bad picture! I've used multiple compact cameras in the past and none has the quality close to this one. I use it in kids' recitals and events and got great results - why didn't I get this earlier? I bought the bundle with the additional long lens but didn't use the long lens much. The price is quite reasonable, especially if you don't buy the additional lens.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens Kit:

I got this camera as an upgrade from the Canon Xti DSLR I had been using for a year or two. I was looking forward to shooting video, being able to use all the Canon lenses from the EOS line that I had accumulated over the years, and just having fun while shooting photos. I got my first EOS in 1991 and used it a lot for a time, but eventually life handed me a "point and shoot" camera and later a basic digital camera. It was great to see that the lenses that I had pruchased early on for my EOS SLR would still work on this newer DSLR. I like that I can shoot nice clear HD video and have control of the camera functions in doing so. The flip-out monitor with swivel is great for when you have to have the camera above your head or down low. It makes it very easy to compose a variety of dynamic shots. I would recommend the T3i to the shooter that is starting out, or the casual shooter who likes to take photos for fun or as a hobby.

We've been very happy with the quality of the pictures, and it's been great having this as a tool in our work. It's easy to use so that staff members with varying degrees of photography skills can still take usable pictures. For those with great skill,

This is one of several versions of Canon Rebels I use in teaching a high school photography class. The Rebels in general hold up very well under the constant use by 14-17 year olds. The T3i offers a nice upgrade from the T3. My students are required to shoot on TV, AV or M and they are getting excellent images from this camera.

I use my new t3i to make videos for YouTube. Not a big still photographer but it's the perfect price for in-home studio set up for web videos. Love that it has some auto settings but also lets you control your own lighting and focus if you want. Only thing that was disappointing is that the lens isn't as wide as I'd hoped. A friend who knows cameras better told me it had to do with the sensor on the t3i so I'll need a wider lens for video shooting. Still great camera and great price!

This camera has all the options needed for a beginner or a semi-professional. It is lightweight and compact. I would recommend this camera for those with a desire for a camera a step up from a point and shoot pocket camera.

As yearbook advisor I am charged with the task of finding the best equipment for the best price. B&H has both. This camera is user friendly and B&H is customer friendly. A winning combination for us.
