I'll get straight to the point. Softest light I have every experienced using a speed light period. I own & use all the time 2 Lastolite Ezybox's, the light this octa produces blows them both away, it is definitley because it has a different inner diffuser, but I am also assuming the size & shape of the octa play a role in the too. Only downside to it, but well worth it, it does take some time to put together. I can have my 30'' Ezybox up and ready to go in under 2 minutes. This takes me almost 10mins. Small price to pay for portable, location big soft octa light.

It took me about 20 minutes to get the thing put together, it does not fold out like an umbrella it really is quite a chore to set up and now that it is set up, it is staying that way. Yes the light is beautiful but the price is twice as much as the Westcott Orb, which by the way does fold, is easy to set up and has the same beautiful light.

I use this product for my outdoors headshot or portraits sessions.
I have to be honest, 36" size is perfect for my use and the way i use it during photo session. It creates great soft light with amazing catch light in the eyes when properly placed.
Down side about this Octa its not foldable like an umbrella, you either have to put it together or just keep it set up.

Comments about Lastolite Hotrod Octa Softbox (36"):

I use is mainly with portrait photography indoors and love the light that it gives.

My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that Lastolite do not produce a grid for this or their Hotrod Strip, which limits it's full use.

I use the softbox mainly for doing the formals at weddings. Works great. Only thing I have with it is that it takes a while to assemble the softbox and it gets tricky when it is windy.

Comments about Lastolite Hotrod Octa Softbox (36"):

This is easily the best soft box that I have come across.

The build is typically excellent from Lastolite and the extra softness in light quality comes from a) the octagon design and b) the dual thickness internal baffle (something the others don't offer)

Not super easy to put together the first few times (you might just never break it down again after the first experience!) :)

Other than that, I can't get over the lighting I can achieve from my shoe mount flashes. Beautiful light! I want the strip light version next!

Feels well made too! Get one!
