I use this bracket atop an Avenger light stand for field TTL work. It's very, very good. Nice, solid, screw-locked aluminum cold shoes with tool-free rotation. Very easy to make sure your IR receivers can all see the trigger signal, and position any radios with their antennae as high as possible. I was a little worried about fitting three FlexTT5 radios on here, but it works a treat.

My only complaint is that the springs which tension the rotating shoes are a little weak. A 600EX-RT on a FlexTT5 bends the shoes slightly out of their bases. A flash by itself is okay, but add a radio under the shoe, and things get a little iffy. Sort of unfair to gripe about that, since this thing's designed for flashes only. But worth noting if you plan to use this with TTL radios. All the other bits are the usual solid Lastolite construction, right down to the cast-aluminum tilt knob.

Finally, this is a much more solid product than the Quad Bracket, which I tried, and dislike enough to return. The Rotating Tri-Flash is probably the most versatile and cleverly-designed flash bracket on the market.

Used it once and it worked as advertised. When I tried to use it again I found it difficult to place the flash shoe into the bracket. They have used tiny tensioning springs which became bent, and thus useless. Had to throw away because I could not straighten. The quality control on the shoe holder thickness is uneven. Unable to push an SB-28 shoe into one bracket. I will take a file to make it possible, but I compared the shoe on this bracket to a cold shoe made by another vendor and see much higher quality in the individual parts, and a better design because it uses a sloping edge. Expect more for the price.

Comments about Lastolite TriFlash Bracket by Joe McNally:

The product worked well for 1 year, later the screws with tightens the fitting of the flash become very rigid. One of the head is completely unusable and other head screw is so tight to operate .. not a good option for those who are looking for durable and stronger solution. Only good for its look, worst in durability,

I haven't used this bracket, other than to attache two speed lights for a pretend shot. I purchased this bracket to shoot into a 7' umbrella on large group photo. I am totally impressed with the workmanship and design of this Lastolite product. How proud I was to see that is is made the good ole United States of America.

Comments about Lastolite TriFlash Bracket by Joe McNally:

I own several brands of flash brackets, and this one is in a league of it's own. The knob for tightening tilt doesn't require ridiculous force to lock tilt. The 3 individual brackets for the flashes rotate, but have detents to hold the flash where you set it. The mechanism is just the right balance between easy-to-rotate, and hold-the-flash-in-position firmly. I haven't used the TriFlash Bracket with an umbrella yet (I bought it for a different use), but the umbrella hole and knob look good. There is one thing that could be improved: the little round insert in the bottom that has the 1/4" thread on one end and 5/8" thread on the other is made out of something that looks like cheap aluminum or zinc-plated metal. Every other one I own is a nice polished brass color. This doesn't effect functionality; it's just odd to have a cheap-looking piece fitting in to a really nice-looking bracket. Of course you don't see this piece in normal use - it's hidden inside the lower part of the bracket. I am using this bracket even when I only need one flash.

Comments about Lastolite TriFlash Bracket by Joe McNally:

I have used a variety of hot shoe flash brackets and have never liked any of them. I've had hot shoe flashes fly out of brackets where I thought they were securely fastened, but they were not.

This bracket is different, and much better, than any I have owned. My flash units slide smoothly into the track every time. I can secure them with the lever on my flash, the bracket screw or both.

The other thing I like about this unit is that it is very compact in size. I have a bag I use to carry light stands with brackets, and this one takes up a lot less space.

The only downside for me is that the umbrella screw is small, but that is a very minor thing.

Excellent thought of rotating the flashes over their cold shoes for better visualisation for the Nikon CLS.
The ratchet joints are solid for the flash shoes ONLY; if you add other items like FlexTT5 to this cold shoes, you will feel insecure ....
Great idea ... If you rotate the flash cold shoes and the flash heads, it gives additional spread of beam .. I use this along with Lastolite skyrapid-small... Thanks to Joe Mcnally and Lastolite for this innovative design.

Comments about Lastolite TriFlash Bracket by Joe McNally:

I'm delighted with this purchase. Very solid construction and very easy to use. After you mount a flash in each cold shoe, you can rotate the flash to any orientation. Each cold shoe has a detent mechanism that is very solid so whatever position you rotate the flash to, it'll stay.

I took Syl Arena's advice and mounted a 600EX-RT, connected to a long E-TTL cable, to serve as the master. I then mounted two slaves in the remaining slots, a 580EX II and a 430EX, and pointed them all at a reflective umbrella. (Flashes facing away from the subject, inside of the umbrella facing the subject.) Because the umbrella bounced the command pre-flashes from the master right back at the slaves, the slaves fired 100% of the time, and I was able to control all three flashes from my camera. With 3 flashes doing the work of one, power levels were strong, enough to overpower bright sun, and recycle time was quick. Quality of light was beautiful! Next I'd like to try this triflash setup in a soft box.

                    Highly recommended!!

More rugged/durable than I even expected. It's the perfect solution to getting more than 1 small strobe into a softbox/umbrella/etc. The 'ratcheting' rotation mechanisms (genius!) are so far very solid. and the tilt mechanism is toothed so there's NO slippage (genius again!). I've had several iterations of this sort of thing in the past but a couple of these and a few Justin clamps now do it all - everything else is now out of the bag - woohoo!

Small form and solid feel, great for lots of flash power users. The only drawback is that the flash brackets don't have stoppers so 2 of the flashes are hanging downwards and they are exposed to breaking. They need a stopper to protect from accidental drops or uncareful tightening. There is a workaround to rotate the 2 side heads but you won't see the flash screens, so it is difficult to use in the field. Lastolite needs to come up with an upgrade to make it perfect.

Comments about Lastolite TriFlash Bracket by Joe McNally:

Used it once and it worked as advertised. When I tried to use it again I found it difficult to place the flash shoe into the bracket. They have used tiny tensioning springs which became bent, and thus useless. Had to throw away because I could not straighten. The quality control on the shoe holder thickness is uneven. Unable to push an SB-28 shoe into one bracket. I will take a file to make it possible, but I compared the shoe on this bracket to a cold shoe made by another vendor and see much higher quality in the individual parts, and a better design because it uses a sloping edge. Expect more for the price.

I utilize this handy piece of gear when I need to shoot on location and keep the amount of gear to a minimum. This bracket holds up to three flashes and every part of it well thought out. I like the fact the individual brackets rotate so the infrared eye on each flash can face the commander when I'm not shooting with radio triggers. Sweet! Thank you Lastolite and Joe for collaborating and making a great product.

Comments about Lastolite TriFlash Bracket by Joe McNally:

I use the bracket when using two Speedlights triggered by a Nikon SU-800. I got it so I can line up both IR windows on the flashes so my SU-800 will fire both. The only thing I don't like about it is it is difficult to get the jaws open far enough as the Nikon SB-900 and 910 foot is very thick.
