I use a 70-200 lens for a lot of my work. No secret it's long and heavy. The lens makes the camera an awkward load. Seems I'm always trying to keep it under control and out of the way. The equipment becomes a literal pain in the neck (or shoulder) on long jobs or walking from location to location.

Seeing the Spider holster in ads, I thought it looked a little odd the way a camera hung from the holster, but trust me the designers got it right. The holster is so well designed that I can lock a camera in the holster, and comfortably hike a mile to our local park with the camera strapped to my waist. It stays put and doesn't cause undue discomfort.

I prefer to let it ride off my left hip and sling a little lower on the right, just about mid cheek on the right. This puts the camera about quick draw for my right hand, and is a little more comfortable overall. Some might like it a bit higher around the waist. I found the waist strap caused some discomfort if it was strapped directly over my pants belt. So I hike my pants up and strap the holster just below it. Let the camera hang upside down with the lens turned in across your butt. I know it looks strange, but this keeps the equipment out of the way, and is the most comfortable. The designers knew what they were doing.

On location the camera slips in and out of the holster smoothly and easily. I was surprised how quickly I got accustomed to the process. You get two hand use to set up shots or pose subjects (carry on a conversation if you're a hand talker). Then you just reach down and pull the camera up to sight the image.

The camera locking mechanism operates with a thumb flick. On location I feel comfortable leaving it off. The holster is that secure. If I will be not shooting for a while, or if I'm changing locations I engage the lock. It wouldn't surprise me if you could hang upside down with the holster and not lose the camera.

I still have a shoulder strap attached to my camera which is a bit of an annoyance. The strap hangs and bounces around, and can get caught on stuff it you aren't careful. I will be switching to a hand or wrist strap now that I trust the Spider.

The Spider holster is secure. The locking systems for the camera in the holster, and the belt to the waist are solid. Having experienced the latching systems, I'm over worrying about losing the belt or camera to a latch failure. Also, I believe, they make it very difficult for a snatch and run robbery.

I'm 6'4' and in reasonable shape. I don't know how this might work for a slighter frame.

This is a wonderful invention. It is crazy-well designed. The dread of lugging, losing, or controlling that big beautiful wonderful load of a lens is gone.

I have photographer friends who love the spider holster and encouraged me to get one. I like that it gives me the ability to shoot with multiple cameras and not lug around a camera bag but the belt is just too big for me! I'm an average sized female and I have the belt on the tightest setting and it still hangs off my waist by a couple of inches. I dont feel like it's very secure this way because it's loose and swings around.

I really like the product but just wish they made a female size for it.

The holster is great and there is no real assembly aside from putting the plate onto your camera. It is easy to use and adjust for a secure fit. The camera slides in and out easily. I got this after having had the Capture Clip and like it better for many events. I feel Capture might be better for more rugged activities while this Spider holster is great for most other activities.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

Or perhaps it should be "Why didn't I think of this before my back started hurting?" I've only had this product for a week or two so I may have to post again later if threads come loose or any negatives arise. However, right now I am one very happy camper. From the first "holstering" of my camera/flash unit I've had a smile on my face telling everyone that all is right with the world. My last purchase was a Canon 70D which continues to have focusing issues and has taken the joy of photography way down. So it is a great joy to have a new product (Spider Pro) exceed my expectations!

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I didn't know I needed the SpiderPro Camera System until after I received it. I'm not a professional photographer, but I am a serious amateur who shoots an occasional event. Recently, I shot my cousin's wedding and found myself constantly looking for a place to lay my camera down -- usually on a guest's table. With the SpiderPro I never have to search for a safe place for my camera. It's always with me and it's extremely secure, even without using the locking mechanism. It's extremely well built and of high grade materials. I doubt you'll find better.

My camera's safety has always been an issue with me. For the first time I have a place where my camera is safe and I'm not worried about it walking away.

All the reviewers write about how handy your camera becomes when you need it right then and I have to agree. Being right there, safe, and available means everything.

I did buy the Spider hand strap. I'll review it also.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

After some problems with back pain I was looking for a way to get the weight of a camera strap off my shoulder. I'm 67 years old and even before my recent health issues the shoulder strap caused me to get tired quickly.

The first day I wore the Spider Camera Holster I felt a bit off-balance with the camera on my hip but that feeling went away. I quickly noticed that my hikes through the woods and mountains were much more enjoyable without the camera swinging around at my back. Had I known what an improvement the holster would be ... I would have bought one years ago.

This product will change the way I do photography. I have migraines that are triggered by strain on my neck, so going on a shoot is always a juggling act. The SpiderPro completely fixes that issue! All the weight of my camera now sits on my hips and I barely notice it. The design is amazing - I can crouch, kneel, even ride in a car while wearing my camera. The entire piece is very well made. Padded but not overly so, good security features (safeguard on the buckle, lock to keep the camera in), easy to use, solid hardware.

The price kept me from purchasing this item for a long time. Wow - so much easier and comfortable than dealing with a strap or bag. I bought another bottom plate for my second camera, and swap cameras as I'm shooting - one in my hand, the other on my hip. Awesome when you need to move fast and light (events, weddings, etc.). Very secure and comfortable. I'm a tall, slim woman, and I have no problem with the fit. A quick flick of the thumb engages the locking feature which prevents drops or someone snatching your camera.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I was introduced to this system by watching a training video by Lindsey Answer Adler and was intrigued by how fast and convenient the system appeared. Now that I own it and have had a chance to use it, I am even more impressed with it. The system takes all of the hassles it of storing your camera between shots and eliminates the insecurity that comes with using a neck strap. For the first time I finally feel like I have complete control over my expensive cameras and lenses during a shoot. Highly recommended.

I have always used a shoulder strap in the past, from the cheap ones that come with the camera to nice padded ones that I've bought. Through the years my neck and shoulder have gotten less tolerable of having that weight hanging from it, to the point of my neck often feeling pinched on one side. So after a lot of research I bought the Spider Pro. I've only had the chance to use it once so far (but it was a shoot that lasted a few hours) and I can already tell it is a great solution. The belt is wide enough and padded enough to be comfortable to wear but doesn't feel restrictive. The camera feels secure and not overly heavy hanging on one hip (even with a 70-200 f2.8 lens mounted), and with normal movement / walking it doesn't move around much. I haven't tried moving faster or running with it so can't say how well it will work under those conditions.

As much as I like this there are a couple of trade offs. These aren't defects nor bad design, just things to be aware of. The biggest trade off is the metal post mounted to the bottom of the camera, obviously it is the magic that makes the holster work but it also sticks out from the bottom of your camera all the time, making it more difficult to pack in your bag or to just set the camera down. Another thing is that you are likely going to have two plates on the bottom of your camera, one for the holster, and another for your specific tripod head. It's actually really nice that you are able to have your normal quick release plate mounted along with the holster plate, but it makes the camera that much bulkier and depending on the plate you have, could get in the way of using the holster (my plate is large and rubs slightly against the holster when I put it in or take it out). Neither of these would stop me from recommending this and both are minor nitpicks for the function that the overall system provides.

This is my second Spiderpro holster, and it by far the best purchase I ever made.Being an outdoor shooter, it has been through 100s of miles of backcountry and the camera is always on my hip, ready to go.

The Spider camera holster system reduces the fatigue of handling several cameras during a day of shooting. I shot a football game and two soccer games at my university and did not feel the wear and tear of a very long day. At 65 years old, I need all of the help I can get. This was comfortable and I got use to having it quickly. It felt natural to use. Recommended it to a colleague who just had neck surgery.
