I purchased this product for a trip to Disney. I have tried different solutions for carrying a camera around the park ... a Tenba sling bag and a Black Rapid strap. I have worn the camera everyday for 9 days for about 9 hours a day. The camera is a Canon 40D with the Canon battery grip, a 24-70mm Canon L Series lens and a Canon Speed Lite 580EX.

Convenience - The camera stays conveniently at my side and is very accessible. It does not hang out very far from my side. The flash points down and the lens points behind me (just like in the sample pictures). Other strap systems would point the 580 EX flash away from the body and I feared it would be so far away that people walking by would hit it, which is why I selected this one.

The Lock - If you use the lock, you need two hands to get the camera out. This will slow the quickdraw process. However, I have not used the lock and have had no issues. To be far though, I have attached my Black Rapid to the camera as a security blanket in case it did fall. (The Black Rapid strap does not sit correctly without the weight of a camera ... but that is a different issue)

The Holster - The holster is made of metal and seems to be of good quality. It is held onto the belt with two screws. I did try using it on a regular belt. Twice I pulled at the camera and lifted the holster off my leather belt. Also when I had it on my leather belt it tended to pull my pants down somewhat, so unless you tighten your belt an uncomfortable level this is not a good solution. I am now only using the provided belt.

The Belt - The belt is black with a thick strap and adjusts via velcro. You will have to put the belt on very snug to not have the camera fall to low on your hip (but not as tight if you are using it to hold up the camera and your pants). The biggest flaw I have found in the belt is the plastic lock. The lock snaps together and there is a security lock. The security lock might NOT engage unless you push it firmly together. I do consider this a small problem. It is comfortable sitting down and I have not had to remove the belt to get on and off rides, however, do remove the camera when I am on the rides.

Endurance - My camera and accessories weight about 6 pounds. Having 6 pounds on you right hip puts your body a little out of balance, and I have more muscle fatigue (from my legs) as my body compensates for the weight. It was more severe the first few days ... by day nine the muscle strain is not to bad.

Style – I am hoping to be in some pictures at Disney. As such, I did not want a system that would be high profile. This system is fairly non-descript. I can pose myself next to my wife and block the black tongue on the belt or quickly remove the belt for the picture. Photobags and straps can also make sweat marks in the Florida summer heat and this system does not do that.

    Biggest issues –
First, I wear a leather belt everyday and the metal holster has scrapped it up. You may want to dedicate an old worn belt for this system, otherwise, you may regret the loss of a favorite belt like me.
Second and more importantly, occasionally my leg moves the picture mode selection knob when walking, which has messed up several of my shots. For example, I put the camera on manual and after walking a couple hundred feet the knob rotated to sports or landscape. When I picked up the camera I, of course, thought the knob was still on manual so the first few shots were a total loss. This has happened only twice and I am not sure why it happened those two times.
Third, I have not figured out how to carry extra lenses. I like to take a 75-300mm lens for long shots and this system is not designed to help me with that.

I have photographer friends who love the spider holster and encouraged me to get one. I like that it gives me the ability to shoot with multiple cameras and not lug around a camera bag but the belt is just too big for me! I'm an average sized female and I have the belt on the tightest setting and it still hangs off my waist by a couple of inches. I dont feel like it's very secure this way because it's loose and swings around.

I really like the product but just wish they made a female size for it.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I am so happy I bought this camera holder. I was tired of having my camera hang from around my neck, flopping around when I bent over. I also used the Black Rapid system which is great, but even that did a bit of flopping. The SpiderPro system is SOLID and secure, the camera doesn't budge a bit. Very easy to drop your camera into its spot quickly without looking. Removing camera does require a second hand to flip open the lock switch but I got used to it fast and I don't have to look down while removing my camera. I love it!

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I bought this to carry my Nikon D810 with the 24-70 f/2.8 lens while site seeing on an extended vacation. I have lower back problems and the weight of the camera becomes a problem at some point. Since the Holster would transfer the weight from my back to my hips, it seemed like a good solution. To me this would be a better solution than giving up the quality of the D810 and instead getting a good 4/3 camera, also much cheaper. Once adjusted properly, the holster did take the weight off my back. What I had not anticipated was that it also, with the weight on one side, tended to torque my hips and I think that after a little time, that would get uncomfortable. I thought about carrying the 14-24 lens on the other side to balance out a little but there were other issues. If I walked fast, the camera would bounce with each step. Worse than that the camera occupied the space that my hand would normally be hanging in as I walked. I also was concerned that with the things I would be doing touring, getting on and off transportation, moving in crowds, going through doors, etc. that it would be easy to bang the camera into something. The holster simply wasn't going to work for me so I returned it to B&H.So, why did I give it 4 stars? First its made very well. The camera easily attaches and releases to and from the belt. Its also easy to lock and unlock it in position. I think the holster would be ideal for those situations where you needed your hands free to adjust lights or your subjects. For that purpose its much more comfortable and secure than a neck strap. Its a great product for the right application.I returned the holster and I'm now in the process of picking out a 4/3 camera. It pains me not to take the D810 everywhere, but not as much as my back does at the end a a long day carrying it.

I'm a relative newbie at photography. I have a D7100 with 18-200mm lens. Took it on several hikes a dn cross-country ski trips, hanging around my neck. It was a definite strain on the neck and shoulder. This holster appears to fix all these issues. It's easy to set up and camera access is very fast. I like it so far.

This thing is heavy duty. I use it to walk around with my Nikon D610, small attached flash and usually a mid-sized lens (which, for full frame, means pretty big glass). This is a heavy combo, one you'd feel on a shoulder strap after a while, nevermind a belt, but this product performs perfectly. I've been wearing it around the house as I go about my chores to get used to it.Exactly as expected.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I love this product. It takes all the weight off my neck. I usually shoot with the 70-200 so that was a lot of weight hanging off my poor neck. Plus, for some events I have two cameras going so now I just have the smaller lens set-up on neck and the 70-200 on the holster. (You can buy a two-camera holster). It works perfectly and is very secure. Also, the camera isn't swinging around or knocking into things if I bend down. It's out of the way. I will say at first I thought it was broken because sometimes the latch locked in when I replaced the camera in the holster and sometimes it did not. So I thought it was faulty because it did not catch and lock each time. But I called Spider and was told it's designed that way so that you have the option of having the lock catch and hold or stay open for faster camera withdrawal. So you do have to get the hang of pulling the latch just so -- not fully -- so that it does not stay open (unless you want it to). One bit of caution if you are very skinny. The belt was just small enough for me. I am a small woman, slender, but there are plenty of thinner women and this would probably be too big for them since I made it as tight as I could. They need to make a smaller one.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I have had neck issues for the last 10 years and my DSLR aggravated my neck every time I went out to take pictures. I looked for alternatives to a neck strap and came across the SpiderPro holster; it had great reviews so I purchased one. I used it for the first time last weekend and it worked great. I could walk for miles without neck issues and the camera was secure on my hip. The lock mechanism prevents the camera from accidentally falling out of the holster when you are climbing stairs or doing other aggressive motions. The mechanism can be locked open for 1 handed shooting when needed. It took me a few minutes to understand the proper placement of the camera when holstered, look carefully at the images in the instructions, but when I figured that out everything worked great. I would highly recommend this product.

Hand grips. Shoulder straps. Neck straps. I have tried them all. Each of them have their benefits and uses. But I found the SpiderPro Camera Holster to be the best option when out walking or hiking. It's very sturdy and easy to use. When the camera is in position and the holster belt just above my pants belt it feels comfortable and safe.

Keep an eye on any battery grips you may have: with some of my larger lenses there is extra force on the screw holding the battery grip to the camera body when in the holster. Not the SpiderPro holsters fault in any way.

                      I highly recommend this holster.

I have only used the belt a few times so far. It seems to work fine. It was easy to set up and seems to be of fairly sturdy construction. It is a little cumborsome when sitting.

I bought this for my new full frame DSLR, but ended up returning both to weight considerations (chronically bad back). My new lightweight a7 doesn't require the same weight transfer from back to hip. The SpiderPro was well constructed - very solid. I think my only concern if I'd held onto the camera/holster might have been the imbalance of transferring 5+ pounds to one hip. I might have wanted something to balance on the other side.

Comments about Spider Camera Holster SpiderPro Single Camera System:

I use a 70-200 lens for a lot of my work. No secret it's long and heavy. The lens makes the camera an awkward load. Seems I'm always trying to keep it under control and out of the way. The equipment becomes a literal pain in the neck (or shoulder) on long jobs or walking from location to location.

Seeing the Spider holster in ads, I thought it looked a little odd the way a camera hung from the holster, but trust me the designers got it right. The holster is so well designed that I can lock a camera in the holster, and comfortably hike a mile to our local park with the camera strapped to my waist. It stays put and doesn't cause undue discomfort.

I prefer to let it ride off my left hip and sling a little lower on the right, just about mid cheek on the right. This puts the camera about quick draw for my right hand, and is a little more comfortable overall. Some might like it a bit higher around the waist. I found the waist strap caused some discomfort if it was strapped directly over my pants belt. So I hike my pants up and strap the holster just below it. Let the camera hang upside down with the lens turned in across your butt. I know it looks strange, but this keeps the equipment out of the way, and is the most comfortable. The designers knew what they were doing.

On location the camera slips in and out of the holster smoothly and easily. I was surprised how quickly I got accustomed to the process. You get two hand use to set up shots or pose subjects (carry on a conversation if you're a hand talker). Then you just reach down and pull the camera up to sight the image.

The camera locking mechanism operates with a thumb flick. On location I feel comfortable leaving it off. The holster is that secure. If I will be not shooting for a while, or if I'm changing locations I engage the lock. It wouldn't surprise me if you could hang upside down with the holster and not lose the camera.

I still have a shoulder strap attached to my camera which is a bit of an annoyance. The strap hangs and bounces around, and can get caught on stuff it you aren't careful. I will be switching to a hand or wrist strap now that I trust the Spider.

The Spider holster is secure. The locking systems for the camera in the holster, and the belt to the waist are solid. Having experienced the latching systems, I'm over worrying about losing the belt or camera to a latch failure. Also, I believe, they make it very difficult for a snatch and run robbery.

I'm 6'4' and in reasonable shape. I don't know how this might work for a slighter frame.

This is a wonderful invention. It is crazy-well designed. The dread of lugging, losing, or controlling that big beautiful wonderful load of a lens is gone.

The belt is simple to adjust and fits comfortably. The long velcro closure allows the user to attach accessories, like a lens bag, that will stay in place, which is handy for some accessories. You can forego the velcro and simply put the accessory over the entire belt for sliding action. The camera holding system is well made and secure. I trusted an expensive body and 70-200 lens. You will find using the system becomes second nature in a short time of use.
