When I got these the little metal apeture control arm in the smallest ring had too much resistance. The return spring in my lenses could not push it, making any picture be at the fastest f/stop regardless of setting. I popped out the ring the arm rides on with a screwdriver. Technically, I broke the prastic flanges the ring rode in. But now it works great. The other two rings worked fine, and now the smallest one does too. I don't know if mine was defective or if this problem was a design flaw (I would bet it was a problem with only mine since if all of them were like this none would ever work). The ring I had trouble with was constructed differently than the other two due to it's smaller size. I thought graphite would fix it but didn't want carbon powder in my camera. If you buy ext. tubes hold them with your fingers on the outside of tube with either hole pointed at your palm and rotate your wrist back and forth. If all the aperture arms flick back and forth freely then they are good. If any won't move freely when you do that then your lenses sping can't move it. Even if the lens can move the arm if it can't do it fast the aperture won't close before the shutter opens.
But if the one you get works fine then these are perfectly servicable ext. tubes. And I will not hesitate to order from BandH again as I am sure they would have taken them back had I asked.

Comments about Vivitar Macro Extension Tube Set (Set of 3) for Sony A:

Seem to work only with maximum extension of the zoom lenses. Auto focus is not able to focus have to go to manual focus and work for each shot. I would recommend taking the money you would spend on extension tubes and apply it to a lens that will meet your needs (without the tubes). It was a gadget I could afford to try but, as you can tell from the comments, the outcome was at best disappointing in the final products produced.

Comments about Vivitar Macro Extension Tube Set (Set of 3) for Sony A:

I would have kept the extension tubes if there was not a problem when trying to use manual focus (MF) via the switch on the camera body. If the auto-focus/manual-focus (AF/MF) switch was on the lens (such as with a lens with a plastic mount, the AF motor would completely disengage as it should. However, off the body the AF motor never fully disengaged which meant manually focusing the lens meant fighting the motor mechanism, that not being a wise thing to do to thousands of dollors worth of lenses. I do not blame Vivitar for what happened, for the AF/MF switch on the camera body needs to be updated to something way [censored expletive] better than what Minolta saw as adequate back in the day.

Comments about Vivitar Macro Extension Tube Set (Set of 3) for Sony A:

I have the same issue as Todd with the 13mm tube, it cannot stop down the lens because the aperture arm does not move freely like the other two larger tubes. At first I thought they were working fine and I just needed more experience using them. Turned out that whatever aperture I set, it was staying wide open causing over exposure and extremely narrow DOF. Compared to the price of the competition though, I can live without the 13mm tube, but I can't give it a high rating.

Otherwise, construction feels cheap but is adequate and the two tubes that do work for me do the job as well as a more expensive brand would.

This is not a good product, the Iris-puller-ring is too heavy for the camera to operate properly, the return spring of none of my lenses are capable of returning the aperture too.
I now have three extension rings that only operate at full aperture.
Sadly, return cost from Norway is too high for a refund to be useful.

Comments about Vivitar Macro Extension Tube Set (Set of 3) for Sony A:

The set I received do not work right. Only the 13mm tube is fucntional with my lenses (Tamron 60mm F2 Macro and a Sony 35mm F1.8). I have a Sony A55.

When any of the other tubes are attached, either by themselves or in any combination, the aperture of the lens will not close.

Also, the fit does not feel good. Very tight attaching and removing, not a precision feel at all.

I am not keeping the set I received.
