This lens has outstanding quality. The build feels durable. This lens is super sharp. Being 1:1 ratio, it is very hard to have the whole image in focus with wide open aperture. No fault of the lens... just a flat sensor trying to recording texture. That's the way macro is being so close. This lens is high quality. I've used it for macro & sports. Focus is fast; not the fasted out there but pretty good.My only complaint.... is this really f/2.8??? Yes and no. The closer you focus the smaller the aperture. There is a chart in the manual explaining this. But nowhere is it advertised. I wish B&H would have this chart on the website. I though I was buying a f/2.8 macro. But it's not a 2.8 for macro. But 2.8 that close would have so little in focus it's not a huge deal... just have to have more light or slow shutter. Other than that I am completely satisfied with the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 and would buy it again!!!Pictures of 1:1 (taken with D7000 DX 1.5 crop sensor) and the chart of focus distance and aperture drop off.

I purchased this lens to replace my Nikon 105 Micro 2.8 D and to have the extra feature of OS, but after testing it against the Nikon, I decided that the OS (not as good as Nikon's VR system), was the only improvement. I tested it with identical settings as the Nikon and and in the end, optically, it was an even match. Good build quality, fast and quiet focus, but average resolution, for a macro.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

This is the only non-Nikon lens I own. I tried others, but this is the one that impressed me. It's well made and does what it's supposed to do. Photos are sharp and the focus (when using autofocus) is reasonably quick. It hunts less than the equivalent Nikon I tried did, too, although in fairness, that was a used lens that wasn't up to snuff for some other reasons. I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Sigma 105 Macro lens. (used with D750)

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

Happily I found out that this lens is not only good for macro, but a great product photography lens & portrait lens. Probably as sharp as any lens I own. On my Nikon D750 there are no focus problems at all...no back focus or changes needed to be made.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

Very highly rated and does not disappoint. Focus is very snappy although for macro a tripod and MF negates that as well as the VR feature. Still when hand holding both are excellent. One would have to decide what character they found most pleasing among the various brands because all are quite good. I'd say sharpness in this lens is the best and for my tastes the pictures require less post processing. I got this lens on sale and am very, very pleased. I highly recommend it.

This lens is very well build, solid right out of the box. Though I primarily purchased this to do macro work, it is one of the better portrait lenses I have used. The bokeh is fantastic wide open and IQ is top notch.

The 105mm length is optimal for both applications I use this for and it has now become my most used lens.

Combined with BH pricing and service I could not be happier.

After pondering over reviews took the plunge and bought this amazing macro lens. Currently using it in my D600 and definitely has the punch in it. Macro images are sharp and come out very well. It does take little bit of time to get used to the focus lock and the OS capability on this lens. The more pictures I take using this lens, the more I like it.

Having tried other macro lens from Nikon, Tokina etc the Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS is by far the best in my opinion. Razor sharp images are the norm. The OS is amazing. I have used it on a D600 and a D7100 with fantastic results.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

I was on the fence about this lens since it seemed like a niche product I would get little use out of. Boy was I wrong. After a week of owning this lens it has completely become my favorite. The images are crisp, focus is clear, and it works beautifully as a macro as well as a standard 105mm prime (see attached photos). I'm thrilled with it. Only complaint is auto focus can hunt a little when you're very close to your subject, but at that space I prefer manual focus anyway.

Well designed macro lens in the popular 105 mm focal length. Solid but not overly heavy. Lens length remains constant during focusing.Focus was quick and accurate. Color rendition was true. Sigma provides a lens hood, an extension for the hood and a very nice case.Purchasing items from B&H is always a pleasure, knowing that any problems are quickly rectified.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

This lens fills two needs, fast aperture in a medium telephoto, and close 1:1 macro focusing. Images I've made so far are sharp and bright.
I've noticed that according to my Nikon D7100, the lens is not as fast at close focus. It is f 5.6 at closest focus (1:1) and opens to f 2.8 from about 7 feet to infinity. This shouldn't be a major disadvantage. I've never heard of a fixed focal length lens having variable 'f' stops as many zoom lenses do.

I cannot stop loving this company called B&H. All about them is good. I had to write about them at the beginning of my review because they offer the best in everything. From products, services, etc...
The lens I did not use it yet too much, but I can say that is a really good macro lens. Again, for the price is more than good. It is pretty fast and sharp.

First off, I want to say I have NO complaints about purchasing this lens...

Really sharp, super creamy bokeh, smooth focus, great colours and the lens itself just looks simply gorgeous.... Very solid feel, and works well with APS-C cameras (I have a D5200). I can almost guarantee it'll feel great in your hand...

Only con I can think of personally is that it isn't all that great getting good images of things that are far away. Say, a distant tree or boat you want to zoom in on more than your kit lens can... But hey, it's a macro lens, and it does it's job well.

I'm using on D3200 crop sensor camera. I've used it for macro as well as product shots and find the lens sharp and easy to use. It does hunt for focus, but I shoot on manual focus with a tripod most of the time so this is not an issue. I find it also takes good portrait photo's with a decent bokeh. When hand-held, the stabilization does a good job; allowing for a faster shutter speed.

Comments about Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

I have had this lens for a few weeks now and have taken about 300 shots with it. I am using it on my Nikon D7000. So far, so good. Auto focus is not as fast as some other lenses, but this is a macro after all. It is well built and feels very sturdy. Image quality is as good if not better than the Nikkor 105mm Micro I tried out. It comes with a nice case and a lens hood adapter for digital sensor cameras, which is nice but doesn't seem necessary. The image stabilization also works well. I was able to get some descent handheld shots down to 1/4 sec. My only complaint is the noisy OS motor. It makes a very noticeable gear grinding noise when it first activates and again when deactivating. I wrote Sigma about this and they say it is normal. I do not notice any issues with the lens because of this sound. If you can learn to ignore the OS motor sound, this lens is worth it. The noise is the reason I only gave this lens four stars.

The attached images are not edited. These are straight out of the camera with no cropping or corrections.
