I switched to the Kata 3n1 25 PL from a Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW. I mainly use it as a day bag and for when I am traveling. I carry a Nikon D90 with grip, 70-300 mm lens, 11-16 mm lens, sb-700 flash, chargers, and other accessories inside with tons of room to spare.

Storage: The Kata and Lowepro have similar camera compartment capacities, but the Kata bag seems to have just a little more needed room. For me, the big draw was the top accessories compartment. You could barely fit a flash in the Lowepro, but I can easily fit a flash, sunglasses, hard drives, phone, wallet, and more in the Kata's accessory compartment. The Kata also has a great zippered compartment for a netbook, which I can easily fit with its charger cables and still have more room to spare.

Build: Build quality is excellent on the Kata. I like the Kata's material much more than the Lowepro, as it seems to me to be a bit water resistant. The bag also stands upright on its own, which is a very welcome upgrade from the Lowepro.

Straps: As my first "3n1" bag, I was pretty excited to see what it could do. I really like the fact that I can wear it as a normal backpack, as carting around a sling-only bag all day tends to get a bit sort. The padding on the straps is excellent. I love the sling and backpack positions, but I think the "X-position" needs a bit of improvement. The straps can get a little "chokey" when in X-position - a little to tight around my neck. Maybe I'm just not adjusting the straps properly, but that's what I found. Also, when you want to sling the bag to the front from x-position, you end up with your unclipped strap dangling around. Not the best for quick action. It's still a useable position, I guess it will just take more getting used to.

Accessories: The Lowepro and Kata both come with raincovers. I was a little put-off at first that the Kata's raincover was not integrated, but I realized that because it is not it can cover more of the bag. And let me tell you....I got this bag SOAKING wet. I was coming back from shooting in the mountains north of Taipei, Taiwan when it started POURING rain. I was driving a scooter, with my wife sat behind me and the bag on the platform on my feet. I had already put the rain cover on because of the mist at altitude, so I didn't need to stop to put it on again. I was really worried everything was going to get ruined. We were wearing ponchos and our clothes, socks, and shoes were still soaked. We also were getting splashed by cars passing through giant floods in the road. We got back and I took off the rain cover......and it was COMPLETELY dry. No dampness whatsoever. So Thank you very much to Kata for keeping my gear dry!

The Kata also comes with a tripod holder which I haven't tried yet as I don't have a tripod to use with it. I imagine you wouldn't really be able to use it very well in sling or x-position, only in the backpack position.

Bottom line: The Kata 3n1 25 PL is an EXCELLENT bag for daytrips. If you have a full-frame camera and a bunch of big lenses, it's probably not the bag for you (maybe the 35 pl?). But for someone who carries 3 or 4 normal size lenses, it would be perfect. It is well worth the upgrade from the Lowepro 200 AW and I highly recommend it.

I tried this because I like the side entry idea. However the backpack hangs out from back; waist belt does not provide lift, there is no chest strap; lots of little things that most backpack designers know to do. Personally preferred the LowePro photosport 200 for fit (doesn't hold quite as much, has side entry but not as easy to use as the Kata) and am trying the Hama Daytour 230 Camera BackPack which has good waist support like the lowepro and has lots of capacity. (Use - day hikes with leica and micro 4/3 cameras, or 5D with 2 lenses).

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):

Excited about a well built backpack. However, a little too tight for my canon 6D with 70-200 lens! Oh well. Will use some shorter primes in the quick access pocket and see what happens.

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):

I'm a camera bag addict. Over the years I have bought dozens. I do a lot of "walking about" photography and a little bit of trekking. So, I look for a bag that's comfortable but easy to access.

I own the 3N1-35 PL Sling Backpack. Great bag. But, just a little too large for my needs.

So this 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack is perfect. The bottom bay holds my Hasselblad H4D-50 with one lens and the top holds a second lens, flash gun and small accessories. When walking long distance I use it as a backpack. When walking shorter distances in urban areas, I wear it as a sling.

Well made. strong, rain-proof and comfortable. I like its "tall / thin" structure so a tripod can hang alongside it.

Could this bag be the cure for my camera bag addiction? Maybe.

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):

This Kata backpack was purchased to replace a Lowe sling pack that wasn't getting the job done. The Lowe just would not wear comfortably and securely unless the chest strap was in place, but that reduced the convenience for me. The 3N1 works better as a sling when quickly hoisting it into place via a single strap, and is far more comfortable and secure when both straps are used.

The other primary reason to get this pack was to eliminate a small laptop bag I was using to carry an iPad, iPod, GPS, and other associated items. The Kata, with a little planning, swallowed all that up and still has room for at least a 3rd lens (which I hope to add soon).

The only things I might wish were a little different:

The waist belt straps are not easily stowed when not in use (which, so far, is basically all the time). The top compartment has a minimum of dividers / pockets (which I compensated for with a couple small zip bags). The zips in the upper portion are very stiff, even after about 3 months of daily use (probably a good thing in the long run, but a little annoying).

Bottom line: I take this pack everywhere I go, even if it just rides in the back seat of my car, and it never causes me any hassle. I'm very happy with it's performance and I hope it's long term durability lives up to it's other qualities.

The backpack has plenty of room for my Nikon D7000, 18-300mm dx lens, 50mm 1.4, and all the other accessories for the camera. It doesn't look like a typical camera bag and somewhat inconspicuous, it's all relative I guess. I would buy this pack again.

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):

Aesthetically, this is a great looking bag. I really wanted to like this bag and use it as a replacement to my Lowepro Slingshot 202 AW. My gear of a Canon 7D with grip, L bracket, and 24-70 f/2.8 L lens (hood attached and reversed) attached fit just fine. I was also able to add Canon's 10-22, 50 f/1.4, and 28 f/1.8 into the bag with some room left over. and not even touching the top compartment.

Once I saw that my equipment fit nicely, I wore the bag around the house for about an hour. I'm accustomed to the sling position of my old Lowepro and just could not get a comfortable fit from this bag. The straps are much like the slightly "S" shaped straps on a backpack. Due to this, I found that the strap kept rubbing against my neck rather than sitting on my shoulder in the sling position. It did function great as a backpack though. I also found that tucking the 2nd strap into the backing was uncomfortable as there was a bulge. My last issue was the bottom compartment. While very roomy, I didn't feel comfortable when it was unzipped completely. When unzipped completely, the entire bottom compartment is wide open and I didn't feel that my gear was as secure as it could be.

I loved the design of this bag and wish that I could have made it work, but it just didn't have that "feel." I'm sure a lot of this is nit picky stuff on my part, but I take a lot of pride in my equipment and if it could eat, it would eat better than I do. This Kata bag just didn't work for me, but it might be the perfect bag for others.

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):

I primarily use a photo backpack when traveling and when carrying and holding equipment at my kids' sporting events. The sling feature of this Kata that allows easy access to your SLR while keeping the pack on the shoulder is extremely useful, and it's very unlikely the camera would ever fall out mistakenly as the pack has multiple safety clips.

The camera and flash from the main area are readily accessible, while accessing lenses stored in the main area necessitate opening the main pouch up more fully. Not a problem in my view. The top holds my NEX camera and other useful items, while the side pouches, although tight and small, hold my sunglasses, phone, and wallet.

For this photogeek dad, this camera fits the bill. I've had several photo backpacks, and I think this is the most useful design. Obviously the 35 model would hold more, but then it would be heavier and bulkier, and I don't travel with all my equipment.

                  Highly recommended.

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):

This should really be called a 4n1 bag. I just put the right strap to the right lower clip and throw it over my shoulder. The strap system is excellant with so many ways to carry this bag. I can't see anyone not finding a comfortable carry with this. The material seems very solid and should last a long time. The interior camara and lens compartment is very well padded and easy to adjust to your gear. It holds more than I expected it too. The top "stash" compartment is great to put your personal items for the day. This bag also has a laptop compartment that I don't use, however I do carry paperwork and things like manuels in there. The only thing I think Kata could have done better is the outside pockets (4 of them) could have been expanded a little bit. They are only good for small relatively flat items. This isn't by any means a deal breaker for me as the bag has such a good interior design. I have all my stuff and still have room leftover. Nikon D7000, 105mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4 with hood on, 18-105mm f3.5-5.6, charger, cords, lens caps, 2 cleaning kits, filters, extra battery, Rain cover, Tripod holder (included with the bag), and a few other things. Needless to say great bag for the money.

Comments about Kata 3N1-25 PL Sling Backpack (Black):
