The sirui is the ideal travel tripod that folds into a very small package and can easily fit in an average camera bag or backpack. I was very impressed with the quality of this tripod. I have owned a Gitzo studex aluminum tripod for 25 years now and as I am now also 25 years older I wanted a smaller package when I go light or go hiking. I looked into the Gitzo travel tripods and as good as they are, the price of these things borders on the ridiculous. I looked quite a bit for a small tripod and looked into the manfrotto and benro's also. There is something a little extra about the quality of the sirui tripods that sold me on this brand. The fit and finish seems superior to even the long established manfrotto brand. I know Sirui is relatively new to the US market but for [$] you can't go wrong. They also have this model in carbon fiber for $200 more but the weight difference is only about 6 ounces. For that small a difference I'd rather have the extra $200 in my pocket. Yes I'm cheap as well. When I purchased this tripod I quickly did some vibration testing and compared it to my Gitzo which weighs about 10 pounds with the Kirk ballhead. I was extremely impressed with the stability and it compared very well with my old Gitzo. I even tapped the tripod during a long exposure and it did show some vibration. I did the same tap test with the Gitzo and it showed the same vibration as well. An incredible performance considering the size and weight difference between the two models. Additionally the leg locks are better than my old Gitzo by a long shot. I'm sure the new G-lock legs are better now than the Gitzo's of the past, but the sirui leg locks have an extra click when you twist them to unlock. This is a safety feature that prevents the legs from collapsing when the leg lock is loosened a bit. Only when the lock is loosened beyond this click will the leg close. If my old Gitzo's leg lock becomes loose the leg starts collapsing and down goes the whole rig. Sirui doesn't seem to advertise this feature on their website but it's an extra touch of quality that deserves mention. If you are very tall this tripod may be on the smallish side for you but any travel tripod will most likely be too short as well. I'd rather have to stoop over a bit and have the added support of a tripod than not have one any day. I've always believed that great pictures require a tripod. I always said taking quality pictures without a tripod is like playing a violin without strings. It can't be done. Only time will tell if this tripod will last as long as my old Gitzo, but all in all a great product at a price point no one else can match.

The first time I extended the legs one of the plistic parts inside the twist locks broak. The inside of the twist locks are made of very thin plastic and are fary to easy to break. I have returned the tripod (thanks BHP) and decided to go with a Benro for travel. My Gitzo is a bit to bulky for airline travel.

    Great travel tripod!

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

Haven't had this tripod for long, but have taken it on three hikes so far. The weight alone is worth triple the price. It folds down very compact, making it easily secured to my backpack and messenger bags. I look forward to bringing it on my next vacation.

If you're looking for something strong, light, and compact to travel or hike with - this is definitely worth a look.

I grabbed one of these to make hiking to shots more comfortable and at the same time safe. It's around a third of the length and weight as my vanguard tripod while also being many many times more versatile. I would get one again.

This tripod is exactly what I needed, is light and compact, but strong enough to hold my Nikon 610. I like to travel light but also have everything I need if I want to take pictures at night or with little light, so I always carry a tripod with me, and this one does´t hurt my back.

It is very compact when it is folded and very light. It's load factor is very good to accept easily the weight of my Nikon 800 with the 70-200 mm f2.8 lens combination. It comes with the nice padded bag. It is almost perfect ripped
        for travel.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I bought this at the B&H store so I had a chance to examine all of the models they carry. I have a couple of heavy duty tripods which are impractical for travel and for backpacking so I wanted a compact, yet decent tripod for birding. I am impressed by the quality of the build and feel of the product. It is not the most solid stand when extended to full height but it holds my GH4 with cage and lenses very well. I bought it with a Benro S2 video head and they work perfectly together. Importantly, it fits right into a carry on or outside of my backpack no problem, can't even tell its there. It comes with a nice carrying case if you wish to keep it protected from scratches and dust.
Would totally recommend this for carrying without having it break your back and getting great images.

I just used this tripod during a three-week trip in Europe. It was light enough to carry for long hikes.
It is also surprisingly sturdy and stable: even with the tripod nearly fully extended, 30-second exposures were perfectly sharp.
The limited maximum height could be an issue for some shots.
As a travel tripod, it's hard to beat.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I bought this tripod specifically for air travel and for bicycle touring. I was surprised at how robust this tripod is. The quality of materials and workmanship is really quite surprising considering how compact it is. One needs to make compromises in order to have a tripod this small, so to have to stoop a little is understandable. It handles my old 35mm cameras easily and I wouldn't hesitate to have a go with my medium format TLR.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I got this tripod to be a lightweight, compact travel option. For this it excels.

Being a five section it isn't quite as quick to setup as a tripod with less sections, and being as compact as it is, it doesn't get super tall.

Having gotten that out of the way, I really like this tripod. The leg sections lock and unlock easily with only a very short turn of the lock collars. The collars turn smooth and easy. The legs adjust smoothly and lock solidly.

When set up it is very solid and stable. It feels like a very sturdy, solid platform.

It is very lightweight, which is great for travel, but it doesn't provide a very heavy base for a heavy camera. This can lead to a bit easier to tip platform then some heavier tripods, but that is the nature of any lightweight tripod. It hasn't been a problem so far, and it has a spring-loaded hook on the bottom of the center section for adding ballast weight for added stability if needed.

The legs flip over the top of the extended center section to achieve the minimum folded length. The legs fold up right around the still attached ball head and the whole thing fits (with attached head) in the included carry case. It's a tight fit with anything other than a small ball head, and may not fit at all with a larger head (because the legs wouldn't fold in close enough), but with a Benro BH1 head it fits. It makes for a very lightweight, easy to carry or pack complete tripod setup. The padded carry case itself is nice and is decent quality.

The tripod comes with a short center section post in it's own little pouch for a bit if needed. Tools for adjusting tension, etc. are included as well.

                    Very pleased with this tripod.

Sirui is gaining marketshare and competing with RRS & Gitzo in quality but not in price. 6 YEAR Guarantee. I also prefer the spring loaded leg spread locks found in Manfrottos and Sirui but not found in RRS, Gitzo, Induro. The tripod is quite solid for its size and weight. For me the carbon fiber version at .5 oz lighter wasn't worth the extra money. Heard a ridiculous compliant that there were too many leg section tighteners. How else can one get the height relative to the small packing size? I loosen all five with one hand motion. I realized one can't do it all with one tripod so I have a big CF Sirui M3204 for short walks and car travel, and this mini for longer hiking and airplane travel.

Packs small and light, stable, I am only 5'6" so tall enough for me, plus I use light cameras with tilt screens so works very well, with five sections a little slow to set up, but when I need to use a tripod I have plenty of time, and the five sections are what makes it so small by reversing the legs over the ball head. I also have a Manfrotto Tripod with a geared head I used for Medium Format and still use it for heavy gear, but this little light, packs small, Sirui Tripod is a joy to carry around and use with lighter gear.

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

Bought this as my first tripod and I am not disappointed. It is very lightweight even with a Oben ball head I purchased which added a pound! Its very sturdy and very easy to use. I love the twist locks which are fast and lock really well. It has two leg warmers for the cold weather, rubber feet and twist locks, lightweight aluminum legs and center column, a hook to hang a bag or weight, a smaller column for macro photography or for a lower profile, a carry bag and strap, and Allen wrenches for adjustments. What made me purchase it was the weight, the lowest height, and the height when folded which makes it easy to transport. The only negative that I have is that the feet do not unscrew to add spikes if needed. I remedied this by hanging my bag from the hood and buying a rock bag for extra support on windy days. I highly recommend this tripod for people who want a lightweight, ultra portable, and low height for macro.

I didn´t have the chance to test it outdoors yet, but it looks sturdy enough for my 6D + 24-70 f2.8L at home. I don´t know how it´s gonna handle strong winds, but the tripod packs small and the build quality looks great to me.The carrying pouch is fantastic, way better than anything you can get from manfrotto or similar brands included.Make sure to buy a light head as well, because my ballhead is quite heavy for this little tripod (Sirui K-20X)

Comments about Sirui T-1005X 5-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I often have to travel by air to video shoots around the country and overseas. I needed to find a tripod that would be suitable for shooting video with my Panasonic AF100 and GH3 cameras, yet be able to fit in my backpack camera bag for carry-on. I actually have tried several over the past few years, and this is by far my favorite. It is very well made and smartly designed, and as stable as possible for something of this size and weight. To shoot video, I add an old Bogen fluid head that I've had for years, but is quite compact itself. These sticks hold that head and the AF100 with no problem, particularly when I do not have to extend the legs fully. This tripod includes a very well-made bag, tools, and a shorter center post that is in its own bag as well. Altogether, a very well done product.
