Comments about Contrejour 35 Backpack (Black):

I used this pack over 3 weeks of travel and hiking in Big Sur, Yosemite, and the Pacific Coast Highway. Firstly, responding to some of the reviews I read before buying that complained about hydration and the depth of the camera compartment: get a 2-liter Camelbak - it is short and wide compared to Osprey or Platypus, so lets you get 2L in the pouch while the other brands' 1.5L are the biggest that fit; get a Camelbak or similar magnetic tube clip to put on the chest strap - hydration issues, tube routing solved. I agree with others that the camera compartment is very deep. I used spare dividers from other bags to hold lenses in place when needed and the extra depth is great for medium-sized (24-120 4.0) lenses as you can run them front to back instead of side to side. The extra depth also allows a space for the hydration pocket to expand when you put in your full water bladder, so you don't get a bump in the pack. The bladder pocket is designed with a bellows-like panel on the inside of the pocket, expanding into that extra depth of the camera compartment. I had no problem with lumpiness from the water bladder.
The suspension is excellent and quite adjustable (I'm 6', 180#, 20.5" torso length for packs). I comfortably carried 15-20 pounds of camera gear + water + other stuff, maybe 35 pounds total most days, with my travel tripod strapped on the side of the pack. The back panel access is sweet - love not getting dusty/dirty when I put it back on after changing lenses. The front access to the main pack area, via top or side zip, is also very nice. The pocket at the top of the main area is big enough to carry my 8x42 binoculars. And I had no problems using it as a carry-on, fit in the bins just fine.

Comments about Contrejour 35 Backpack (Black):

This backpack is probably one of the best backpacks on the market. If you are hiking, biking or anything like that this is the bag for you. The trampoline system is awesome. And it is so comfortable. But most importantly it has sooooo much space.

It has enough room for four lenses and a pro body with lens or three lenses and a flash and a pro body with lens attached. And also has room for jackets, water bottles, and a lot more in the main non camera compartment.

Overall it is one of the best camera bags. And if you are traveling or hiking than this is the pack for you.

Comments about Contrejour 35 Backpack (Black):

I have owned the Contrejour for a year - bought it off their home page directly (Sorry B&H)

I use the Contrejour 35 for skiing (boys are racers), both training sessions and day long race days s well as normal days of skiing on and off piste. I use it for hard core hiking, both day trips and 3-4 day tourings between mountain huts in CH and AT. I use it for international travel - carry on, was only challenged once in San Francisco Airport, but got through in the end.

It has lots of small zipped pockets that you can use for what ever stuff you bring with you. The padded shoulder straps are well designed, but the waist belt could be a little more padded to match the waist belt quality of real backpacks, but not a big issue.

The backpack has never let me down, best photo gear pack you can get, trust me... I have tried a lot.

The hydration compartment should be redesigned to include straps to hold the bladder pipe though.

I took a lot of time looking at all the different backpacks and liked this one. For hiking into remote areas, this backpack holds all of my gear plus some.

Comments about Contrejour 35 Backpack (Black):

I travel a lot and needed something that could hold a camera body, several lenses, and my other gear. I had another brand, but the shoulder straps were ripping out too easily. This one is reinforced so holds up to a lot of handling. It has lots of pockets and protects my camera gear well. The only drawback is that the access isn't quite as easy, but it's rugged and I would definitely recommend it. It's also very comfortable to wear.

Comments about Contrejour 35 Backpack (Black):

I've had this pack for a month and waited until I took it on a couple of longer hikes before writing a review. This pack has finally met my needs of carrying all of my photo gear AND my hiking gear. There is plenty of room for both. On a recent Appalachian Trail day hike I carried a Canon 7D and 60D plus 3 lenses. With all of my gear it weighed about 25 pounds and I didn't even feel it. The waist belt carried most of the weight, and the shoulder straps are very comfortable. The top pocket is very roomy and hold extra batteries and memory cards in nice inside compartments.

The only negative thing I noticed is the zippers aroung the camera gear section are very tight. It takes a lot of muscle to open/close them.

I also used the Cotton Carrier Strap Shot on the left shoulder strap and it worked very well. It attaches nicely to the shoulder strap and the loop on the top of the pack.

I highly recommend this pack to all active photographers.

Comfortable and harness adjustments will allow a good fit for a range of body styles. It fits my Canon 1D and attached 100-400mm L series lens (hood reversed) with a bit of room to spare. In addition it also has good room for a range of smaller lenses and accessories. Getting the camera in and out of the side access panel is also very easy. It has a lot more room than I expected in both the camera and general storage parts of the bag.

I just used this pack to travel around Europe! It's a great pack, and organizes my gear well. I fit 4 lenses, two canon mark 3 bodies and two speedlights in there along with two sets of 4 cards, batteries etc. And then had a whole other compartment for my random stuff like a jacket, and other bags etc. It's great for travel and has great comfortable straps for walking around. It's also got a secure pocket for the gear so you don't have to worry about anyone unzipping the bag and stealing your gear while you're in a big crowd.

Comments about Contrejour 35 Backpack (Blue):

I bought this bag a couple months ago and feel that I have used it enough to give a fair review. I bought this pack specifically for a ski assignment that i was assisting with. I was following around the photographer on skis all day for week and a half, skiing some of the craziest lines in BC, and the bag stayed properly adjusted and felt comfortable the whole trip. The best thing about this bag is that it fits the body amazingly, it gave me the confidence to ski the same lines as the athletes. This bag offers superior protection to any other bag in its class that I have used without giving up a lot of weight. I have found that this bag is not limited to just ski photography, but can also be used as a hiking/trekking bag. If you are just going for a day trip and don't need to much equipment, this bag will do the job fine. the large compartment is plenty big enough for extra clothes, food, ETC... Conclusion: If you want a bag that fits the body well and gives you the ultimate protection for your hard earned gear, get this bag. Especially if your into ski/climbing photography ( i personally wouldn't consider anything else).

I have been a professional Landscape Nature Photographer since 1981 and have had to climb, ski, hike, snowshoe etc to get to my photo destinations. Till now, I have not found a pack thought out well to handle serious weight comfortably with easy access to my camera gear as well as ample room for my other gear such as clothing raingear hydration systems and other essential gear. I am really pleased with this system and wish I had it several years ago.

I am only giving this a four for now because I have not put the pack through it's paces.

That said, initial impressions are good. Solid construction and a good size without being bulky. I had questions on the size of the storage compartment, for other than camera equipment, and there is certainly enough room for a change of clothes.

The camera compartment is good size. I have three lenses, a 40D, flash and some odds and ends with plenty of room to go.

This backpack will hold a lot of camera gear and a decent amount of personal stuff. A small lap-top would fit in the storage area (it is not designed for that and there is no padding for a lap top).

This was a solid buy and the outdoor, non-bulky, camera backpack that I had been looking for.
