This camera is a little gem, firstly, its an equivalent Super 16mm video format camera creating very nice 1080 HD quality, but it also works as a totally silent stills camera pushing out 10mp resolution files in RAW or JPG without a sound with a focusing system that would match or better many DSLR's today, the dedicated lenses are small enough, crisp, well made and quiet to focus with as well.

The camera is well built and is a size that is not too big or too small to use, therefore a bigger more powerful battery than you typically get in a compact can be accommodated into the camera and the system doesn't need to rely on massive in-camera processing/corrections for the sake of making the camera typically smaller (obvious trend in this market if you look at other similar models).

The built in EVF is not distracting in real use - I normally use optical viewfinder designed cameras, it's also still very comfortable to work with over longer periods, not at all distracting as I first thought.

The system will benefit from having some fast lens choices and the ability to disable the camera preview which annoyingly reviews images after the shot, these I'm sure are being addressed, but overall don't take away from the real benefits of this camera for me.

An added bonus to this camera is that you can even attach your other F-mount lenses to it, pushing it's potential as a long lens shooter.

I can see this working very well for my on-set stuff - I'm not saying it's perfect yet, but it is the start of a new genre of camera, the silent fast high quality pocket compact, easily carrying 3 or 4 of these around primed up each with some fast lenses used for my handheld stuff and even rigging quick remote functioning V1's around too - this could just give you the edge for better coverage, angles, options like never before.

This camera is for someone who sees the possibilities in a system, digital advantages and new areas of creativity, it's definately not for someone who is fixated with "a good picture must have good bokeh" mentality or harkening over a camera that mimics film. I think while the bokeh crowd are looking at their "bokehlicious" shot and retro leather-look camera designs, there will be a lot of shooters out there, creating, covering better content from these little gems.

This is not my only camera - I also shoot using FX or above in terms of sensor sizes, but these V1's have found a place in my kit bag and brings back the "spirit of photography" in a fresh way. I can see it working alongside the D4 in video with its pixel matching capabilities and certain jobs where the D4 just would be unnecessary or bulky in certain assignments,

With the fee restructuring for editorial assignments on a downward trend, these cameras would make far better sense for editorial assignments in the future, they are light, discrete and cheap - important to running a profitable biz.

Highly recommended.

I purchased my V1 in December of 2012. In September of 2013 my 10-30mm lens failed me for some unknown reason and is now on it's way from Indonesia to the USA for repair. I can only imagine how long this will take. When shooting numerous photos at low light the camera heats up and at times freezes, making for a very frustrating photo session as I photograph rock concerts here on Bali. After removing and replacing the battery it begins to function again.I also at times get a message that my memory card is not functioning even though it functions fine in other devices.I seem to have gotten a lemon. All in all this camera has not lived up to my expectations based on the quality of Nikon's I have owned in the past. Needless to say, I am no longer a fan of Nikon camera equipment and will probably move to Fuji. I would not recommend it to a friend or enemy and am now shopping for a new camera. The pros:Fast image focus in good and relatively low lightGood feel, easy to hold, well builtExcellent images in need of minor editing for my useFast lens changeExcellent battery lifeViewfinder so nice to have Cons:Lens failed within a yearFreezes when battery heats upMode button on rear easily turned unknowinglyLack of C M A S P button...must go to menu

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):

Great little camera, compact and lightweight, easy to carry around. Only disappointment is e battery life, after approx 12 charges the camera suddenly stopped working and came up with battery has reached the end of its working life, new battery required. Other than that a pretty good little camera

I own a Nikon D300 and a Panasonic GX1. I was ready to buy a Panny 20mm pancake lens for travel for the GX1. But, for just a little bit more money than the 20mm lens, I bought the V1 close-out with 10-30mm and the 10mm pancake….such a deal.
The V1 is great fun. Good IQ and quick focus/tracking. Added the FT-1 adaptor to use my entire Nikon DSLR lens collection. The camera has quirks, but easy to adjust to it.

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):

I really like this camera! I shoot Nikon DLSR's and wanted something I could carry around for quick and easy photos and this works, period.

There are enough features to keep me entertained like Manual mode, Super slow motion, auto pic select and interchangeable lenses. It is NOT a DSLR replacement so you cannot compare it to that line. If you want more buttons or features, OR a larger sensor, use a DSLR, I do... I put it on "A" (aperture) and auto ISO and just let the camera do the thinking and it does a really good job!
I think the sensor is very good; if you are used to a FF then you may feel weird using a CSX but for what it is it captures the images well at 2.7crop. Its a sleek camera that I can put in my pocket and take nice pictures using my skills as a photographer.
I have the FT1 adapter as well since I figured I have several Nikon lenses to use with it:) I think that is a nice combo and it is fun to shoot with a 200mm f/2.8 at 2.7 crop! I hear complaints about the AF or the limiting shutter speed with the FT1. IF you want those things fixed just get a great DSLR... I think people are over expecting and looking for a DSLR in a compact body... I enjoy picking this camera up and just shooting with it. I have spent much more on my Nikon gear and this is less than the cost of one good mid level lens...

I would recommend it, maybe not to my mom due to the changing lenses and all, but I think the market may be that pro or semi pro that just wants something nice and familiar to pick up an shoot. I usually have the 10mm on as it is a nice 27mm FOV on the 2.7 crop. I might pick up the 18.5mm f/1.8 but with the adapter and a 35mm f/1.8 I get pretty close to that FOV. I threw on the 105mm 2.8VR2 the other night and was quite impressed! Will I use that on a regualr basis? no... (D800 will do) But I had some really nice clean macro shots taken! And YES the Bokkeh on a 2.7 crop may not be the best but come on! A small camera, fun to shoot, NOT a P&S, manual mode, changeable lenses?!?! No brainer. Great camera.

I have also heard from a friend that he did not like that he had to go all the way into the menu to change from "A" to "M" that there should be a button for Mode... Like a DSLR... That he has... When I am shooting this camera I usually am not adjusting settings constantly; I DO like the fact that I can adjust from A to M to S...
No standard hot shoe: Do I need it? I can CLS trigger a flash but really? Ill take a D800 with PW any day I need that setup.
Slow LCD Viewfinder: JUST PRACTICE! Its fine...
Digging into menu: Not really. Focus on the subject, get the shot. If Im focusing that much on changing the settings I need to change the way I think about photography at that point.
      Expensive: Maybe a little...
High ISO: It does a good job.
Size: Solid but light compared to DSLR. Simple design means simple grip. has a tripod mount so you COULD mount a BRStrap but IF you mount a 70-200mm2.8VR2 then you MAY want to use the lens collar mount point:)
Its a nice camera. Period. REPLACE my DSLR? no... It is not designed to do that. I find myself picking it up a whole lot now a days and making it easier to always have a camera on me!(not just an iPhone)

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):

I use the Camera as a Photo and Video all in one piece of equipment.
I use a Nikon D7000 DSLR for my indoor Sports and Macro work. I also use a P7000 Nikon (advanced point and Shoot)for casual photos and some video.
I needed to use faster lenses for video and wanted a compact camera to use for city photos and casual photography.
This Camera really fit the bill. larger sensor than a Point & Shoot and a smaller frame for carrying all day long. The video is also great and I added an external microphone which was great.
The 10 mm 2.8 lens is tack sharp and has nice bokeh when you can set it up right.

The metering is excellent I was able to get a black cat in perfect exposure with light behind the cat Amazing.

The sensor is smaller than a DSLR but it will produce nice 8x10's in moderate light.
Noise wasn't that bad for my photos and in camera processing looked great!
Lack of some manual controls will bother some people but the camera is very good with figuring out tricky lighting and focus is lightning fast.
view finder is a great feature and helps me in low light.
All in all I am happy with this camera and I hope Nikon continues to grow the lens corral for these great products.

I love how easy it is to change lens. It can take multiple shot so you won't miss that one perfect picture of your baby. I like how it is light weight. It takes great pictures in low light even without the flash.

yes the images have some noise but with a little post processing images look great...this does really well up to ISO 400 in good light and ISO 800 is pretty decent as well...I have even used ISO 1600 with fairly good results and am able to print an 8 x 10 that looks nice...however at the higher ISOs I do convert some of them to black and white and there is a nice grain...what this camera is about is speed...yes it will miss an image or 2 but not like the nex 6 which still hunts especially in the dark...I use this for street photography and outdoor sports...I even was able to shoot some ice hockey indoors at ISO 1600...some noise in the facemasks but there was still plenty of detail...I find it best to shoot raw...and leave the high ISO noise reduction turned off...plus the 2.7 crop factor gives amazing reach...and with the FT adapter you can use some of your Nikkor F mount lenses...so your 18-200 becomes a 48-540....a full dslr model to shoot sports is a little pricey to me...this gives me a good option...having many more keepers with this camera than with my D300...and right now the price is a steal

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):

To be clear up front, this is not a DSLR replacement. As long as you understand that, you will be blown away by this 'point and shoot'. Full 12 bit NEF's, nice sharp lenses, fast startup. It has a lot of DSLR-like features in a very compact body. It's a bit more menu driven than I would like, but it wasn't necessarily designed for a DSLR shooter either. The menus are easily accessible. Get the FT-1 adaptor and you suddenly have a wide range of lenses to use (G lenses give you AF, D lenses don't) with a 2.7 crop factor. That gives me excellent reach on my 70-300 ((189-810 equivalent!)

This is the camera I had hoped the P7000 would be. Build quality is much better than the P7000, feels very sturdy. Get the whole system!

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):

I bought into the whole concept and system. It's highlights are well represented in other reviews. A few lowlights to be aware of. It would be so nice if you could use the RAW files without having to purchase Nikon software and possible a new computer that can handle the software requirements. You definitely notice the compression in the JPEG files. I'm surprised there is no auto bracketing. And finally the most annoying feature is that you cannot get rid of the ridiculous jingle that is attached to every motion snapshot.

I´m an amateur photograph. I had until now point and shoot cameras for traveling, family pictures.
I´m using the Nikon 1 V1 in the same way with much better quality. The lenses are great.

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):

Takes fantastic pictures, turns on almost instantly. Focus is super fast, viewfinder is beautiful, with all the info you want. Small sensor = small lenses (not like Sony Compacts, where the lenses are the size of the lenses for my D7000!). Don't be fooled; it takes great photos, better than many cameras with larger sensors, even at high ISO - fortunately Nikon optimized for quality, not megapixel count. There are two shortcomings: the hot shoe cover is easily lost (but not critical), and the mode dial on the right side is easy to bump into video mode by accident if you're wearing gloves or putting it into a pocket.

Comments about Nikon 1 V1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 10mm and 10-30mm Lenses (Black):
