What amazing job it does, I printed on Hahnemuhle fine art 13x19" paper; from glossy, smooth, Germand etched etc, all are amazing!

Shipping from US to Canada/Newfoundland was very long, nearly 3 times quoted delevery time and the packaging foam was damaged but otherwise the beast was okay! lol

i use this product every day .. and every day i print around 30 11x17 . i use this one for Black and white and fine art printing most of the time .. What's wrong with it? .. the cost per print is very hi.somebody can explain why if i print only black and white i already change the complete set of inks.... twice !!! do some maths [$]printer+$350 inkset + $350 inkset ..i know it have to clean the heads but it just waste a Lot of ink... a Lot of ink ....a LOT of ink ..Other problem is the paper feed mechanism .. it just doesn't take the paper .. i use fine art papers as i stated before and i usually have problems with other printers not feeding that type of papers but not out of the box .. my canon pro 9500 develop this problem after 6 months and 4 thousand prints it for sure prints very nice, quite and it also looks good and professional on the desk. But plz dont spend that kind of money on a printer that have so many problems !!i also add a picture as a proofp.d. somebody else feels my pain ?

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I use the Pixma Pro-1 to print my photographs. I am very picky when it comes to color accuracy and tonal range. Color management is key to quality prints. I calibrate my monitor and take the time to create color profiles for each type of paper I use. It can be a pain, but the resulting prints give me predictable color.

The Pixma Pro-1 gives me the range of colors I want with fidelity and even ink distribution. The prints have no glazing at any angle.

The printer was easy to set up, but had a lot of steps to get everything right. The print driver takes getting use to so that all the color management settings are correct. Fortunately, this is the third Canon printer I have owned and understand the correct settings. Someone new to color managed printing would make many mistakes before mastering the correct workflow.

I like the larger ink tanks and the pigmented ink for archival quality prints.

It is very heavy and may require two people to get it placed in your work area. It is also slower than my previous Canon Pro 9000 II.

The way Canon names the paper trays is very confusing. The rear paper tray is actually in front of the manual paper tray. I would not name it the rear tray.

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

With the B&H plus Canon rebates, this was just too good an offer to pass up. I chose this over the PRO-10 model for the [supposedly] better B&W potential and the [supposedly, as measured by Red River Paper co.] cheaper per-page ink costs. This is my first true photo printer, so I don't have much point of reference. I am however very pleased with the results so far! I did used to develop and print my own B&W and I feel like I've come full circle. I do really, really like the look I'm getting with B&W and it's already raising eyebrows with my friends. More so than with the lab prints I'd been doing. Colors seem pretty dazzling as well (no surprise there).I briefly tried Canon's Print Studio Pro plug-in but now prefer to work straight from Adobe Lightroom. (If there's one thing Adobe really knows, it's work flow!) I set up a "soft proof" virtual copy and add a bit of brightness and contrast, then also add Brightness +40 and Contrast +15 for "Print Adjustment".I do use Canon's profiles for their Pro Luster and Semi-gloss papers. It has a somewhat subtle effect on the soft-proof previews. Rather than spend a bunch more time and money getting the soft-proof accuracy an extra 1% closer to the total accuracy that is conceptually impossible, I make the final compensations in my brain and proceed. Some images look fantastic on first try - some would require several hard proofs to really get right. (When everything rides on having that certain "something" in a key region...) This is of course one of the benefits of having your own photo printer ready to go at home.I am pleased to report no hint of clogging whatsoever after a few weeks. Ink consumption is hard to tell After about 30 8x10" prints the utility shows most tanks somewhere under 1/2 - much of that ink did to to the initial priming process so it's pretty hard to say what the ink costs will be at this point. I am glad I got the model with the larger tanks - less time swapping in new ones. I know it will sting more when the time does come to reorder.Like I said, I have no other point of reference, but so far so good! No regrets at all - that's for sure. I really do feel a sense of full-circle fulfillment, producing my own prints again.

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

Delighted with this printer; outstanding prints. Upgraded from a 9000 Mk II. Pro-1 has slightly bigger footprint and much heavier. Setup was straightforward, although I find the Pro-1 User Guides are far less useful than those for the 9000. Runs very quietly. I will repeat the caveats about the necessity of Monitor Calibration, Printer Profiling, and Color Management to get the best out of the device. The profiles supplied by Canon work quite nicely with Canon paper. Creating profiles for 3rd party paper using Canon's Color Management Tool produces excellent results. I've always struggled to avoid muddy looking prints of low-key photos. Now, with the Pro-1's two black and three grey inks, they're a snap. Somewhat slow printing at high quality settings and uses a lot of ink, particularly on high quality, glossy prints. However, superb print quality more than compensates for the negatives. Would definitely recommend this printer to a friend.

Have printed eight 13x19's and about a dozen 4x6's during the first week of ownership. Results have been just as hoped for. Setup was hampered by a warning light. I called Canon and they patiently spent time with me and ultimately resolved the issue. The only disappointment so far is a lack of ICC profiles for using the Epson paper I accumulated while using an Epson 2200.

      Canon vs Epson

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I was a confirmed Epson user until I used the Canon Pixma Pro 1. I am really impressed with the color gamet, overall resolution, ease of use, but I've never seen anything as beautiful as the high gloss images that this printer can produce on various substrates, such as Moab Slickrock.

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I've made test prints to get the hang of operating this printer after loading the many paper profiles. The initial impression is the print comes out darker than the monitor display, although my monitor has been calibrated. I found there's a choice of printing Light, Normal or Dark. When I selected Light, the prints come out like the monitor's diaplay.
The best part is the ability to print matte or glossy without having to switch ink cartridges. Overall there does not seem a big difference in prints quality from this Canon Pro 1 and my previous Epson 2880. Unless your paper is thin (less than 53 lb.) you will need to feed paper from the manual slot in the rear one at a time. This baby weighs 60 lb., and the print time is slow. One nice feature is you have a choice to connect the printer with a USB or an Ethernet cable. Setting up is not intutive; I had to read the short instruction and the manual in the accompanied CD carefully. There's no hitch. The machine goes through a lot of motion and makes noise before every actual print. Have no long term experience at this time.

I can't get over how incredibly expensive this printer is to use,
it drinks ink, there must be a huge reservoir of discarded ink in the base of the unit. Now it is leaving marks on the prints, I am ready to toss it. I love Canon cameras but I will stay well away from their printers from now on.

            Great printer!

            By CraigPA

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

Installing the print head was a bit of a problem. For a still unknown reason, the Alarm and Power lights started flashing alternately. And the Labor Day weekend was poor timing on my part to get help. Canon strongly recommends against turning off the printer when the Power light is flashing, but due to the threat of bad weather I felt that I had no choice. Eventually, I was able to contact Canon and got the problem resolved. Jeffrey, the guy whom I talked to, was courteous and patient. His advice was to finish the installation process. Bottom line, I'm quite happy with the results! The only thing that puzzles me is why the Alarm light flashes twice when I'm using the Manual Feed. Pushing the button stops the flashing and printing resumes. Keep in mind that I just purchased this printer (08/27) and am still learning, but so far I'm quite impressed! One final comment, I'm tired of reading reviews where the buyer whines about the size and weight of this printer! If you're seriously considering purchasing this printer, then read the specs!

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

Canon's Pixma Pro-1 is easy to set up, easy to use and produces prints of exceptional tonality and color vibrancy. I doubt that any printer can match it for Fine Art Black and White prints. Used with Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique paper, its ICC profile for Canon, and Photoshop to guide the printing, the Pro-1 is capable of deep, well separated, detailed dark tones and textured highlights. The same combination produces color prints of high realism and saturation. The most delicate part of the set-up is inserting the ink head, but the instructions provide a clear guide. The most difficult part of the set-up is moving this massively heavy printer into place -- two people will be needed for unpacking and placement. It's worth the effort. I thought no printer could surpass Epson. This does.

I am an amateur photographer and was using a 9500 mk2 before this which I had less success with.
I also used a colormunki screen calibrater to get my mac book pro 17 screen properly calibrated, and now, from LR5 I am printing almost perfectly to this printer.
Not sure how the ink use will be long term, nbut so far it seems better than the 9500.
Took 2 hours to set up, but the instructions were excellent.

Despite its large size and backbreaking weight, this printer is straightforward, quiet, and fast. I love that the ink cartridges are stationery. The only annoying thing is an extra flap that has to be opened to insert paper and then must be closed again to print.

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

Upgrade from the Canon Pixma 100 and will honestly say, the difference is noticable throughout the print quality. However the 8 1/2 x 10 prints aren't worth the additional expense ATMO. The pixma pro 100 is excellent and further debates with ink types can be researched from better sources. Prints at 13 x 19 on the Pro-1 do show exceptions in the colors, not as much in the Black and Whites with standard printer settings.

Not clear yet how much ink it uses but it look like it will be an important cost of use.

The Canon accepts paper with no problem, even paper by other manufacturers. There is never a need to attend to the paper or to try to have it go through 2, 3, 47 times.

                And it prints beautifully.

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

Great quality of the print BUT drinks ink like it has a hang over, it print test every time, cleans heads constantly making it difficult for the ink to last, also a small imperfection on your paper and it becomes a mess, the print quality is amazing but the head ache does not make it worth to keep it.

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-1 Network Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I'm currently using cannon pro luster sheets. This printer is absolutely producing lab quality prints. I'll be trying many other papers as well. I don't find that ink usage is poor at all, it depends on what you're printing. Extremely happy with the purchase, and as always B&H treats customers right. One word of caution, make sure you are using a high quality calibrated display (I've got those on order now). Printer is well worth the money.
