I have used this lens pretty extensively over the last 2-3 weeks for landscape and wildlife photography. A great overall walk around lens, at 18mm, it is wide enough for great landscape images and with a zoom of 200mm, it works well for wildlife. The quality of the photos is definitely a step up from the kit lenses and the AF works fairly quick, depending on the type of light. For the price, you can't beat this lens.

I've found that I have better results using time value (started using TV because of this lens) rather than aperture value (how i usually shoot). It's just too blurry otherwise. The first time I took it for a spin, I went to the park where they have lots of geese around all the time. This thing was putting the auto focus points on the grass, on the sidewalk, anywhere but on the geese... So, I had to manually put the focus points on the geese to get them in focus (it could be worse, but its still kind of annoying because that shouldn't be necessary). Even when you do manage to focus on something, the pictures come out very very soft. Maybe I just got a bad one... I purchased this product because I do a lot of walking around/travel photography. I fell in love with the concept of having a lens that I wouldn't need to take off and I could shoot any kind of shot that I wanted to. Now I think I probably should have saved up a little more and picked something else. (May have spoiled myself with the prime lenses I own...)

REVIEW OF SIGMA 18-250 F3,5-6.3 DC MACRO

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:

I wanted a lens that has a zoom range of at least 18-250 mm. I called B&H Photo about such a lens and they recommended the Sigma 18-250 DC MACRO OS Lens. I decided to give it a try.

When the lens arrived I used it to take pictures almost immediately. It arrived on a Thursday and I used it the following Sunday. I found the lens to be very versatile and very good at taking wide angle pictures when set to 18 mm and even just as good at the maximum 250 mm. Even when I attached my 2.5X tele-convertor to this lens making it have a zoom range of up to 625 mm it, worked fine. Of course this caused the lens to set the F-stop about two F-stops lower. But the camera adjusted for this perfectly fine by using a slower shutter speed.

When I purchased this lens, I also purchased a UV filter for the lens. The lens has a filter thread of 62 mm. I purchased an adaptor to be able to use my 55 mm filters with this lens as well. Now before you say anything, I knew that this may cause a slight vignette on the corners of photos when the lens was set to 18 mm. When I tried using my 55 mm filters on this lens I found that there was an extremely small cropping of the corners. However, if I moved the zoom to approximately 20 mm there was no vignette at all on the picture. If only the adaptor and a single 55 mm filter was on the lens I could even use it at 19 mm depending on the thickness of the filter used. The 1 mm difference between 18 mm and 19 mm is not that much as far as the actual picture is concerned. Even from 18 mm to 20 mm is not that much either. Another thing I can do with this 62 to 55 mm filter adaptor is to use my 55 mm screw on lens cap on the lens. When I have the 62 mm UV filter on the lens and want to take pictures only with the 62 mm UV filter, I can unscrew the adaptor as if was part of the lens cap and it works just fine with absolutely no vignette on the picture.

The only drawbacks to this lens are that when you put the lens on a tripod and try to use the zoom settings at much more than about 24 mm the lens must be perfectly straight with the ground or the zoom will tend to creep back a few mm when you let it go. This can be remedied by putting a wide rubber band on the lens near the point where the zoom wheel and the front of the lens meet being careful not to let it get on the focusing ring. This will stop the lens from creeping back to a wider zoom setting. This lens also has a stabilizer on it. With the stabilizer turned on the lens uses a lot more power and the camera battery will not last as long. Those are the only two drawbacks I can see with this lens.

As for recommending it, I would certainly recommend it as a good lens to replace several other lenses I have in my camera bag. These other lenses are an 18-55 mm, 28-80 mm and a 56 to 144 mm. The 18-250 mm Sigma lens makes it possible to take the same pictures with only one lens and even more. I also have another zoom lens that can be set to 160-480 mm as well as one that can be set up to 12300 mm, yes you saw that correct 12300 mm. However, this lens is extremely heavy and even a tripod is not suitable for this lens. You must place the camera on a table and use either the timer or a remote control to take the picture. Any movement, no matter how slight and the picture will be blurred.

I wasn't sure what kind of zoom to buy for my camera. I found B&H extremely knowledgeable and professional. They were honest with me in every way. He explained the differences between the Canon and Sigma Lenses, gave me a great deal and did not at all try to oversell me. He sold me exactly what I needed and I LOVE the lens, it was a perfect choice and fit for me. Thank you B&H!!!!

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:

In general terms it's a good "walking around" lens. The adjustment range is great. However the sharpness of the lens is simply far less than I expected. I well understand the fact the certain compromises in quality are to be expected when the zoom range is so great but many shots almost appear to be in "soft focus", particularly in low light situations. Focus seems a bit slow and is sometimes poor in very low light situations.

Overall quality seems good. I have not experienced any of the issues like zoom ring "stickiness" that other users have mentioned. Conversely, the manual focus ring seems to completely lack friction, making manual focus precision difficult to achieve. The zoom lock, functions inconsistently; sometimes it is difficult or even impossible to engage.

The softer focus quality might make this a reasonable portrait lens. I'll keep using it as a walk-around lens for now. It's a reasonable purchase as a budget lens but the kit lenses I bought with my T3i produce photos of greater clarity.

Not a bad lens for the price. As with most superwide to telephoto there is some "each end" focusing to be desired. But, once aware of the limitations - you are good to go. Great for those instances when you don't want to tote a lot of weight or change lens or carry the other camera body. Quiet, smooth - best resolution was between 22 and 175mm. Added a 2X and was impressed with outcome.

Picture quality is extremely good for the price. This lens has quickly become my universal lens for alround purposes. Another good and affordable product from sigma.

This lens is a great everyday lens and will stay on my camera (drop the kit lens - finally). It's a great all-in-one if that is what you are seeking. After just getting back from a vacation and having to change between lenses frequently, I had enough. This Sigma fits the bill for me. The picture quality is excellent and the lens movement has a quality feel. B&H is great, very helpful in assisting with any questions, and they have a great return policy.

I have tried several other lens, two of which were purchased from B&H but just didn't have what I was looking for. One lens was a Canon and I have to say the picture quality of the Sigma is much sharper. This lens is also very versatile and it will be my everyday lens (drop the kit lens). Everything about this lens is quality. Very satisfied. Also, B&H has a great return policy and excellent customer service. I will continue to purchase from B&H.

This is a leave on the camera or travel lens,
                          nice size and weight
..... except for full frame cameras where you will have vigneted images

I can't compare this to more expensive glass, having never own ed a top end lens, but for the price, this is amazing. I have taken a lot of excellent pictures, it has lived up to my expectations 100%. The zoom is a little stiff, but once you're where you want to be, you;re there..no slipping. I cannot imagine more lens for the money.

Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens for Canon Digital EOS:

I wasn't sure which lens to get to take travel shots. I wanted something not too heavy and practical, so this was the best choice. It is not a light lens, but works great for traveling shots with my T4i. It probably is great for ocasional uses too. I had an 50mm 1.8F that is awesome light, but in a cropped screen it became a zoom lens that made hard to take pics too close, but with this one it is very wide. For the price I think it totally does the job!
