Comments about Tascam SS-R100 Solid State Digital Audio Recorder:

Just unboxed and test this recorder. It seems like pro device and I am sure it will work out just fine for us, but I am disappointed that it doesn't seem to have the ability to track to both an SD card and a USB drive at the same time. I was hoping to use a 8gig SD card as a large format backup, but to track to a USB drive to give to clients.

I have been using Tascam products for 30 years or more and have always been satisfied with their quality and reliability. This Recorder seems to be no different. A Professional recorder at a great price.

I really didn't have to do much to figure out how to use the SS-R100. Just push a few buttons to choose your record level and destination (I just popped in a thumb drive). Works great and we won't have to deal with faulty CDrs anymore!!

This has been a great addition to our sound booth here at our church. With using this as a back up with various recording sources make reproduction of cd's easy and being able to copy the voices onto a SD card allows us to add the voices to our video reproductions.Great product and price!

Comments about Tascam SS-R100 Solid State Digital Audio Recorder:

I bought this box on sale, so I'm a little happier with it than I would have been had I payed full price.

I needed a box with a S/PDIF input and a record button to use as a 2-track backup recorder. Anything beyond that, in my mind, is a waste of money for my intended purpose. Since no one currently makes a $50 box the size of deck of cards with nothing more than a S/PDIF input and a Record button, I bought this. It serves my purpose, but does much more than what I need.

It is impressively well built — nice solid metal construction, very solid, seems like it will last. The buttons have a nice action to them. The screen is easy to read. Only the transport buttons are backlit — it would have been nice if all the buttons were backlit, especially for work in dimly lit concert halls and backstage areas. The menu is very easy to use. All commonly accessed functions have shortcuts, making it very easy and fast to use.

The USB port has enough power for a USB buss-powered hard drive, and even though it is only listed as being compatible with thumb drives up to 64GB, it works fine with my 128 GB USB drive.

I had an odd problem with an SD card. I attempted to contact tech support concerning the issue, but I never head back from them. I won't be using the SD card until a software update is issued to fix the bug, but the USB port works perfectly.

The lack of 24-bit recording is annoying, but since I'm only using it as a backup recorder, I'll get over it. That the only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.

Voice over work and another record source for the studio/podcast studio... If your budget allows - get yourself one... pricey but perfect.
