Finally a 4/3's camera i can count on. I spent considerable time comparing to the Sony Nex 7 and picked the GX-1. Reasons:
Better resolving power on this 16MP sensor than the 24MP on the Nex 7
Quality of the build excellent
Grip is one of the best in the ILC camera categories
Great combination of buttons and Panasonics touch screen features ( im a big ipad user)
Better selection of lens options to choose from
About $300 less than the Nex 7 which immediately allowed me to buy another lens (45-200)
Although the Nex 7 has a tilt lcd, I find the optional EVF a better option with its 90 degree swivel ( and is 100% field of view)

I spent many hours researching mirrorless DSLR cameras and had come down to the Lumix GX1 vs. the Sony NEX 6. Long story short I ended up with sticking with the NEX 6 for a couple reasons. First the GX1 doesn't have a built in viewfinder which has been a must have. Using the screen is possible but its easier to see how tweaking settings effects the picture in the viewfinder. The GX1 has the available viewfinder add on however it makes the camera much taller, is bulky and the connection is a little worrisome for damage long term.

The biggest factor was the image quality. I tried the Lumix because of great experiences with the Lumix point and shoot series cameras. The NEX 6 has much better image quality from my experience especially in low light.

Cost was a major factor, however when I added the view finder and a telephoto lens to the GX1 the cost difference was under $200, which the more advanced features and technology in the NEX 6 made that decision to spend the extra money easier.

I just got this camera a couple of weeks ago and have only used on a couple of walks so far. I like that that it zooms in when fousing, and the quality of the screen. Having some trouble going between the shutter speed and the aperture.

I am a casual user, and I've used other cameras before (mainly a friend's T2i). I love this camera, it's small, takes nice pictures and is easy to get used to. It is a bit old but you can't really tell from the pictures it takes. I do find myself missing a viewfinder however compactness is the main reason why I chose this camera and I can live without one.

Comments about LUMIX DMC-GX1 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with G VARIO 14-42mm Lens Kit (Silver):

Still trying to figure out how it all works, but have been quite impressed so far. My previous camera was a LX3- so my 1st "real" camera with lenses. I shoot a lot of flowers & the kit lens does a fairly good job of it, though I'm planning on at least getting a pancake lens for even better shots.

I'm still having problems figuring out where to put my hands on it- my left thumb keeps doing crazy things with the touch screen when I'm not looking & the little plastic door to the cable connection is rediculously flimsy plastic- particularly compared to my LX3, don't know what they were thinking here, otherwise I'd give it a 5.

Just wish it had a selective color filter (for B&W besides reds or greens, etc..) & maybe a panoramic & HDR blending 3 exposures in one w/out having to go to photoshop.

We purchased this camera for our honeymoon. It has been a resoundingly efficient camera for day, night, sunset, water views, land views, still, action, you name it. We definitely love the peripheral defocus setting, it makes your pics look professional.

I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a low budget, high quality camera.

The camera thus far has been a phenomenal leap forward from my point and shoot. The range of tone this camera can capture is superb. The feel of the camera in your hand (the weight, materials and size) is rewarding. I have no other way to say it but the four-thirds technology make me feel like I'm shooting with film again. I'm using it primarily to photograph artwork so I needed something very sensitive but I'm not expert so I also needed something I would be able to use out of the box.

I bought this to replace my Canon film SLR. With an adapter I can still use my EF lenses if I choose to. I was looking for something with full manual controls, small size, and the ability to make 11x14 prints. So far this looks like just what I wanted. Only negatives: 1. Even though the instructions are on a CD, they are still very poor. 2. Almost impossible to rotate the rear settings dial without also pressing it in which changes the functions unintentionally.

I'm new to interchangeable lens cameras, but so far this camera has been wonderful and has exceeded my expectations. I love the iA button so I can easily hand the camera to my wife and she doesn't need to worry about any of the advanced settings (it also lets me take better pictures when I can't figure out an appropriate aperture/shutter speed/iso combination). For the price ([$] with the cheap kit lens), I'm not sure that this camera can be beat.

My quest for the perfect balance of features in a portable camera is this.
GX1 is the fourth micro four thirds camera I'm buying. I tried everything from Canon G12 and G1X to Sony NEX-5n and NEX-7. In short, the smaller sensors are just not enough, NEX cameras appear to promise more but practically it's the same thing just bulkier and with fewer lenses and so on.
I'm using the GX1 with 20mm 1.7 and the viewfinder. It's a go-anywhere, do-anything combo. Fits in a jacket pocket. Light enough that, just by the weight, I can't tell whether it is in my bag or not. Quick, snappy, reliable, tough. That's it. Period.

I was using my 3 years old GF1 and now upgraded to GX1. After GF1, the other GF series disappointed me in term of features, control and handling. Now GX1 has redefined the GF series! I am using GX1 to photograph my 3 months old son, GX1 done the good job in term of color reproduction and Auto Focus speed, especially with Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f1.4. What i got from the camera is just sharp and nice photo of my son, even in indoor. However, accuracy of White Balance under florescent light source can be better and i heard firmware v1.1 improved the White Balance accuracy too.

Comments about LUMIX DMC-GX1 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with G VARIO 14-42mm Lens Kit (Black):

I replaced the kit zoom with the 14mm pancake lens so I can now drop the camera in a largish pocket and easily take it wherever I go. It replaces a Panasonic GF3 that served the same purpose until I sold the GF3 to a friend. It's my interchangable-lens, high IQ, multi-featured point-and-shoot camera.

The build is solid and first rate. Everything works as expected with no hitches in function.

Image size and quality are on par with the Panasonic G3.

Comments about LUMIX DMC-GX1 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with G VARIO 14-42mm Lens Kit (Silver):

I fell in love on the first sight with this camera. It is beautiful on the outside, powerful on the inside. Small and light has many features, beautiful angles.
Downside is that it has so many features that I actually have to learn how to use it. (After being a semi-pro for 10 yrs).
                  Still, worth it.
