Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Love this new tripod. I had a slik for many years, but this one has so much more flexibility for getting into difficult situations. Plus, the light weight of the carbon fiber helps when I'm already carrying around so much equipment. The leg-locking mechanism works fast and easy.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I bought this tripod 2 years ago, when it was more expensive, and haven't regretted it. I use the tripod regularly, about once a week, sometimes more. The center column can rotate (locked by a knob) as well as pull up and rotate laterally. All this flexibility comes at the price of more complexity than most tripods--there are 2 knobs and a lever that is required. Getting a stable setup with a DSLR and a macro lens on the end of a tilted center column takes time and care, but it works. Tripod has good height--with the column raised the camera is well above my eyes, and I am 5'10''. After a couple years, the legs got a bit loose, I tightened the big allen screws underneath the legs and that solved the problem. Vanguard has good customer support in my experience--I had a problem with a head, and they sent me a small replacement part, no charge.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

My first experience with a tripod and I'm very pleased. It was recommended to me by a professional photographer who I highly respect. The center column flexibility is a real plus that allows you to shoot at any angle. Very solid piece of equipment.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I was seriously considering a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber when I happened upon the Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT review. I love the variable angle center column on the Alta Pro which the Manfrotto lacks. Plus the Manfrotto has a limited lifetime warranty...Sold!!!

After using the tripod for several days, I highly recommend this bargain priced 283CT. It is stable, light and excellent quality.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

The locks of the legs tilt are very fragile. I already have two of them broken, as visible in the image below.

The tripod is also too short determining that opens the central column, less stable.

I sent an email to the manufacturer requesting action but not getting any response yet.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I bought this tripod after seeing someone else use it at a Macro photography class. I immediately appreciated the ability to withdraw the middle tube and take advantage of the 180 degree angling. The CF construction keeps the weight reasonable and the build quality is great with terrific quarter twist controls. I bought this in a kit with the SBH100 head. Although this is a better head than I've ever owned, you might want to buy tripod and head separately and invest in one of Vanguard or other's higher quality (and cost) heads - especially if you want arca swiss compatability. One thing to consider - there's a 4 section model - the 284 and the 3 section the 283. The 284 folds a bit smaller, but has about a 6" less max height. Check both out before deciding. Bottom line - if you can see the advantage of their 180 degree center tube, you won't go wrong. excellent high quality product at a very reasonable price.
