Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I had this tripod for about a month and a half during which time it probably had less than three hours use when a leg segment fell off. At that point I got a look inside the leg and the mechanism looks pretty fragile. Maybe I just got one with a manufacturing defect but it did look like too much had been sacrificed to keep the weight down.

I can't say enough good things about B&H though. They replaced it no questions asked even though I was past the 30 day limit and had tossed the box... which I won't do again ;)

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

For the price and what it is it is a great budget tripod with a lot of versitility!

I am used to the stability of an ENG camera on an O'Conner 35L

I use this tripod with a Vanguard SBH-250 Ball Head

The most load I have tested is with my Canon 70D (with Canon battery grip) on the plate mounted collar of a 70-200mm f2.8 IS mkii... and for what it is, stability is rock solid!

This tripod has nice leg locks that only require a quarter to half twist to release, we'll see how well they lock in a year, but so far so GREAT!

The action of the center column lets you get 7-8' off the ground and if positioned properly, and is just as solid as upright!

The 18ish lb capacity is more than enough for almost any DSLR setup, and a lot of smaller ENG/EFP applications as well. Coming in at just under 4lbs I couldn't be happier with my purchase after a month of playing with it!

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I got this model tripod "Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod by Vanguard" because the Vanguard model I originally ordered was discontinued. This turned out to be a blessing as this particular model is much better. It also has a $ rebate but I was impressed with the sturdy frame and the solid construction that was put into this model. It has all the bells and whistles that I was looking for from the carbon fiber construction to the retractable spikes at the base of the tripod.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Love this new tripod. I had a slik for many years, but this one has so much more flexibility for getting into difficult situations. Plus, the light weight of the carbon fiber helps when I'm already carrying around so much equipment. The leg-locking mechanism works fast and easy.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I bought this tripod 2 years ago, when it was more expensive, and haven't regretted it. I use the tripod regularly, about once a week, sometimes more. The center column can rotate (locked by a knob) as well as pull up and rotate laterally. All this flexibility comes at the price of more complexity than most tripods--there are 2 knobs and a lever that is required. Getting a stable setup with a DSLR and a macro lens on the end of a tilted center column takes time and care, but it works. Tripod has good height--with the column raised the camera is well above my eyes, and I am 5'10''. After a couple years, the legs got a bit loose, I tightened the big allen screws underneath the legs and that solved the problem. Vanguard has good customer support in my experience--I had a problem with a head, and they sent me a small replacement part, no charge.

My first experience with a tripod and I'm very pleased. It was recommended to me by a professional photographer who I highly respect. The center column flexibility is a real plus that allows you to shoot at any angle. Very solid piece of equipment.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I was seriously considering a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber when I happened upon the Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT review. I love the variable angle center column on the Alta Pro which the Manfrotto lacks. Plus the Manfrotto has a limited lifetime warranty...Sold!!!

After using the tripod for several days, I highly recommend this bargain priced 283CT. It is stable, light and excellent quality.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

The locks of the legs tilt are very fragile. I already have two of them broken, as visible in the image below.

The tripod is also too short determining that opens the central column, less stable.

I sent an email to the manufacturer requesting action but not getting any response yet.

Comments about Vanguard Alta Pro 283CT 3-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I bought this tripod after seeing someone else use it at a Macro photography class. I immediately appreciated the ability to withdraw the middle tube and take advantage of the 180 degree angling. The CF construction keeps the weight reasonable and the build quality is great with terrific quarter twist controls. I bought this in a kit with the SBH100 head. Although this is a better head than I've ever owned, you might want to buy tripod and head separately and invest in one of Vanguard or other's higher quality (and cost) heads - especially if you want arca swiss compatability. One thing to consider - there's a 4 section model - the 284 and the 3 section the 283. The 284 folds a bit smaller, but has about a 6" less max height. Check both out before deciding. Bottom line - if you can see the advantage of their 180 degree center tube, you won't go wrong. excellent high quality product at a very reasonable price.
