It was fast enough to get a crisp shot of sunset handheld. It also was able to keep focus on my speedy granddaughter in continuous mode in low light. I shot with my Nikon D700. The distortion is corrected in LR3 with one click, but sometimes I leave it because I like the effect. Overall I am very happy with it. It is small and light. I can see it being a staple in my bag.

Really wanted to like this lens, and in some ways I did. I've seen some very nice images taken with it, but most are from film and slide days, or on lower resolution DSLR's. On FX, especially the D600 and D800, this lens shows its age. As far as size, weight and build, this is a great lens form factor. If you don't need or want a $2,000 24 f1.4, or a 2 pound 14-24 zoom, this is the exact size you'd want for wide prime. Can fit in your pocket.Performance the problem. It can be sharp in the center, but even stopped way down, the edges will always be smeared. Search the web and read the reviews on this lens on modern DSLR's, and note if the use is on a DX or FX. Since DX uses the center of the lens, these older 2.8 D primes like the 20mm seem to be more usable and get better reviews. On FX, most reviews are negative. But there is an effect you may be looking for where this lens can be useful on an FX: center sharp and blurred perimeter. This can be used to draw attention to the center of the frame. Might not be what you want for landscape. But for landscape, for night or evening, if you want the edges to be dark, this lens could be useful. I have seen some very nice images with that effect taken with this lens.If this lens was $300 I might have kept it for those ocasional instances above. At $[$], just can't justify it. Beware of used copies: this is an old lens, and many of the used ones for sale are very old and need servicing. If you want one of these, I'd recommend going new.I bought a refurbed 24-85 VR for $350, and found at 24mm on that lens, stopped down, I can get better results than with the 20mm on my D600 and D800. For what it's worth, the 20mm performed a little better on the D800 vs. the D600. Just a little. This range is a missing link in Nikon's line up: wide fast primes. The new 28mm f1.8G is getting great reviews, but for many it's just not wide enough. Hopefully Nikon will add to the new 1.8G line and update the 20mm and 24mm.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens:

I bought the lens for my Df, when I was in holidays in NY.

I wanted to have a wider lens (I own the 24 mm AF-D), for landscape and interior use.
I also considered the 20 mm AIS, and the Voigtlander 20 mm AIS-P.
But it was the only one which was available as a sample product, so I was able to try it at the store before buying it.

I like very much the tiny size, the beautiful colors and sharp pictures I have with it on my Df.
I don't mind the moving ring when using autofocus, which is very quick.

This lens seems to be build to last, time will tell (I once fall on a small river with my 24 mm AFD on a FM3A on a trip in iceland in 2004, they still work !!).

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens:

I use this lens on a D300s, and on a DF.
On DX offers an very nice equivalent 30mm view.
On FX is one of the best wide angle lenses you can have. for the price is amazing. very sharp, fast autofocus, well built and so lightweight that is a joy to carry it around. I love all this D series lenses. made in Japan quality. i love that they look like real lenses. for filters i use an step up ring 62 to 77mm so I can put more than one filter at the time without any worry about vigneting. I recommend to use the optional lens hood to give it a little bit of protection
I recommend it to someone who like to travel, hiking or walking with the camera all day in search of beautiful landscapes and at the same time, want to improve composition using just fixed focal length primes.

The lens I received has never been sharp. Often times shifting focus when making a photo. I could have just received a lemon but I would not recommend this lens to anyone. It maybe cheaper but it is not worth the price. Do not buy this lens.

First time user and purchase of a wide angle lens. It's size and weight are perfect and make it a joy to carry and shoot with. There is a bit of a learning curve for me, so if you haven't shot wide yet, don't despair, keep trying, the pictures get better and you will have tons of fun. The pictures are sharp and clear and I use it on a Nikon D600 with no issues.

I do Architectural Photography. I have demanding Clients who assume Color Fifelity and Sharpness as matter of course. No F'in round at this level. There is no "Software Save". This Lens is small/Light/sharpa as a Laser and wonderful COLOR rendition..everyone always talks about a Lens "Sharpness" F' Dat!!! How bout it's COLOR and CONTRAST as well. This lens has it. A 20. Not an 8-500....But a good old honest 20...which approximates normal field of view...Isn't that what you want to capture...what's inside your finder?

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens:

I had read some not-so-complementary comments about this lens, particularly related to corner softness. Not so. I guess I won the lottery with a particularly great copy of this lens.

I did a lot of real-world test shots with my D700, the "newspaper" test, and the AF calibration Spyder tool test. All were superb. They were surprisingly sharp corner to corner at f/2.8. I did get some very slight vignetteting at f/2.8 but this was easily fixed with ARC or PTlens. The same goes for naturally occurring distortion. I am an architect and I am very fussy about these issues.

The weight and size of this lens make it a pleasure on European trips over my 17-35mm.

Highly recommended if you get a good copy as I did.

Though this lens is no super glass, it performs well and is very small, light, and robust. Close focus, fixable distortion, and f2.8 make this guy quite usable for CFWA shots. Nikon needs to update this class of primes.

I purchased this primarily for architectural photography. At the price point compared to other options I knew this lens would be a balance between optics and price. If you use lens correction tools, the wild distortion becomes negligible. If you have to use it wide open, expect softness around the perimeter but stop it down closer to f/8 and it is solid. Very light weight.

I bought this lens to use on my D700, and it's a great choice, instead of a zoom wide-angle, for walking around. It's small and lightweight, and doesn't cause people to "gawk" at it. I have not used it on my D7000, yet, but I plan on doing that soon.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens:

I wanted a wide angle prime for my D600. I rented this lens one weekend and did some shooting, and was amazed by the colors produced by it and I also noticed there was only a little flare in my images. I did not think twice before ordering it from B&H. It is a good companion to my 24-70 f2.8
I find it a bit difficult to attach it to the camera mount though, compared to my other lenses.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens:

I bought this lens for wider landscape and wedding pictures. Since I bought it, I shot a wedding and used this lens a bunch. It was great for wider sanctuary shots and outdoor group pictures. It was fun to edit a wedding and see some different looks then I've been able to get in the past. I did have some problems with the focus that I'm in the process of researching. At this point, not sure if it's the lens, camera or user. Especially when shooting an individual, I consistently got out of focus subjects and in focus backgrounds. Like I said, I'll be researching to see who the culprit is.

Comments about Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens:
