I have been shooting digital since 1999. Primarily, I have been using DSLR. I rarely print images and shoot for the web. I was getting a bit tired of lugging around multiple lenses, fighting dust bunnies and carrying large bodies. However, I did not want to give up control and decent image quality.

My wife gave me the Fujifilm X10 as a gift. I immeadiately fell in love with the camera and the images. I was amazed that this extremely well built compact could produce such excellent images with great color, white balance, contrast, dynamic range (when necessary), control of noise etc.

I had been looking for a good bridge camera for several years, but nothing I researched seemed to be quite right. I was skimming through a photo magazine and came across a full page ad from Fujifilm featuring all of their X system cameras. I had no idea they had a superzoom bridge camera. I researched it. I found that the XS1 had the same sensor as the X10 and ordered one from B+H (the best camera store in the USA).

I have now used the XS1 for two event photo shoots. I was amazed by the results. As far as I am concerned, the XS1 is capable of capturing images as good as any entry level DSLR. The lens is a pleasure to use. It is sharp through all focal lengths. Also, I big plus for me is the wide end at 24mm equivalent.

I can only think of 2 cons. The camera is a bit heavy for a bridge camera, but I will tolerate the weight for the image quality. Also, the auto focus sometimes hunts when the lens is zoomed out to maximum.

This is a well designed camera - with some very nice features. However, I have returned it because I am not satified with the overall quality of the images. I purchased this with the hope of not having to take my heavier DSLR on trips, but the image quality is not worth the compromise for me.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

My first impressions of this camera are very favorable. It has the best surface materials I've experienced on a camera, with just the right texture and feel. All of the controls have a quality feel, and the buttons are just a bit oversized compared to most cameras. The EVF is very large, bright, has good eye relief, and is adequately sharp. The size and weight seem about like the Nikon D300/18-200 I had a few years ago, but with much greater zoom range, although I'm not expecting the image quality of the D300. I'm still getting used to the controls, and haven't taken any pictures with it yet, except for snaps of the dog and stuff inside the house. Overall, this camera has a solid "industrial" look and feel, silky zoom, top quality, made to be used, lacking in unnecessary bling or badges. I'm really looking forward to using it for a trip to Yellowstone this winter (and yes, I'll carry lots of batteries).

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

I have owned a Fuji Finepix S-200EXR since 2010, I liked that camera's manual zoom very much but the plastic lens barrel and the accompanying feel was not what I would consider a "high quality product". I did not want to jump to the HS10 or its successors simply because they are more recent product.Been watching this camera for a year now, was hoping the prize will drop, but I fear Fuji will soon move on, so I pulled the trigger. Best move I made this year! LCD to EVF sensor works better than I expected and the view is simply fantastic, best EVF I have seen. A view finder for me is a must, I own two Nikon P7000 series because of the Viewfinder. I hate looking at a LCD under sunlight.Zoom action is on par with my film camera lenses , I own Leica's R-system, so I know what good mechanical feel is all about. The feel when using this camera is very pleasing and that is important to me, I already am familiar with Fuji's EXR features so I fully expect to learn most of the options. I will not review how the pictures look since there are many reviews out there already. What I want to convey is the sense and knowledge of ownership of a high quality product. The label "Made In Japan" also is a reassuring thing nowadays.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

I like this camera. It's size and heft give it a solid feel and it handles very well. The manual zoom is excellent and the manual focus is also good. The fact that it comes with a metal lens shade instead of plastic is a quality touch. The 26x zoom (24-624mm eqiv.) will handle the majoity of photo situations and the f2.8-5.6 maximun aperture is good. Both the LCD an EVF provide a good view. Images, although not as good a top DSLR's, are very good and will make nice 13"x19" prints, the largest I make. My only real complaints are the same I have for most cameras. First, too many features for most people (myself included) to ever remember how to use without getting out the manual. Second, the remote cable sockect on the left side interfears with using an "L" bracket, which I do. Third, I wish the LCD was fully articulated. That way, it could be turn in toward the body so as to protect the screen when not in use. Although not inexpensive, I feel it's still a good value given it's build quality and features.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

I upgraded from an HS20 to the X-S1. Significant improvement in low light images, faster, general improvement in image quality. Having a little time adjusting to the changes in controls but generally they are more clearly thought out and more efficient to operate. The camera is quite large compared to the HS-20 but I think the improvements are worth it.Battery life is great. In general the camera is a clear step up on all levels and I am happy with the results.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

So far I am very impressed. I am very happy with the viewfinder, which provides a bright image for composition. It also shows the color shift in the image depending on the film emulation selected.
In a quick test it compared very well with my Nikon D80 w/18-200 lens for image quality. The main reason I wanted this camera was the long zoom lens combined with image quality.

Has th heft and build of fine 35mm cameras. Performance is excellent. Zoom range is great.

I also own the Nikon D300 and D90, but this is my go-to camera. It is not a take everywhere camera because of its size. I don't consider it a point and shoot, but rather as a semi-pro, and I ave recommended to a friend who bougt one and loves it.

It also has great battery life. There is nothing not to like.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

This is a well designed camera - with some very nice features. However, I have returned it because I am not satified with the overall quality of the images. I purchased this with the hope of not having to take my heavier DSLR on trips, but the image quality is not worth the compromise for me.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

I'm retired and use this excellant camera daily shooting wildlife. It has a longer zoom than the S100fs I had before I bought this camera. It takes great photos at higher ISO and has an auto detection to switch from the screen to the viewfinder when you put the viewfinder up to your eye.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

I am not a professional. I like learning about photography and this let's me learn on a dlrs-like camera, without carrying many lenses with me. This lets me take great pictures and at the same time, learn how to be better gradually. I had tried a few other super zooms (Sony, Canon, and Panasonic), and this was by far the best one. Others have either clunky menus and build or they have unrealistic jpg color output. It is more expensive than the others, but with the large sensor and the great controls and menus, it's really worth it if you can afford it. It feels great to hold, and the menu options and features are amazing.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

This is one of the most expensive point-and-shoot cameras, but also one of the best. The electronic viewfinder is nothing short of amazing - extremely bright, even when pointed into dark areas. You can focus through the viewfinder when it would be impossible with a through-the-lens viewfinder. The sensor sizeis basically APS-c, which is unheard of among its point-and-shoot siblings. It is only 12 megapixel, but the light sennsitivity seems to be very good. The photos are of very good quality, although at the long end of the zoom the sharpness drops off. One irritating disadvantage is that the manual focus ring is a servo rather than a direct connect, thus there is some lag when you turn the ring. This makes manual focus slower than it should be.

My shopping experience with B&H was great!!! Delivery was on time, and the product was packaged correctly and as described. Now, about the camera. The Fuji XS-1 is a marvelous piece of work. I read so many biased reviews about this camera, (and Fuji in general) 75% of the ones I read did not even have the camera in hand. . Don't believe the Fuji haters. I already have printed 11x14, 12x18, 12x24, The image quality is excellent. I dumped a good DSLR and a heavy bag of lenses for this camera, and couldn't be happier.. So don't hesitate, pull the trigger. The camera is worth the money.

I am a photo enthusiast. My primary use is taking photos during travel, family etc.
I needed quite a time, to study all the features the camera includes (still learning), but over all, I think it is worth the money I paid for it.
I like the enormous zoom range it provides, which allows picture taking far enough away for wildlife and other situations, you cannot get the scene getting too close.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

The X-S1 can capture 95% of all shots I'll come across and it will be a long time before my photography skills will start to push the limitations of the camera's capabilities.

I like the idea of the single lens being a limitation. I'll have a great (and boarder line bulky camera) on my travels that can capture stunning images, but my temptation/need to bring other lenses will be 0.

The quality is awesome. It puts the Rebel and D5100 to shame in appearance and feel in your hands. I've found the AF to be very quick, puts the T3i to shame (both shooting with SDHC cards). The layout of the camera was very intuitive to learn, but I found myself very confused switching back and forth between a friends canon and my fuji.

Biggest and only complaint thus far, the pretend view finder. It can display a lot of good info about the current settings and allows you to keep your eye on the subject while adjusting iso/aperature/etc, and also has a focus dial (thus allowing me to shoot without glasses). But the image quality of the display is not great by any means. Using MF to shoot crisp images may prove to be difficult even as I get use to the camera. Hopefully not.

Having mentioned this, I would definitely buy this again.

Comments about Fujifilm X-S1 Digital Camera (Black):

Although the XS-1 (X-S1) is very impressive on paper, the camera didn't deliver when shooting for spontaneous situations like sports or street photography.

If you are used to a point and shoot, this may feel and shoot better than what you're used to. If you are used to prosumer or pro DSLR, then you will be disappointed - as a primary camera.

Another words, if you have the time and luxury to acclimate to it on your lea sure without the pressure of pro requirements, it would be a good, even great camera to have around. It has many cool features to grow into and exploit for fun, but it disappoints as a primary camera.

That may seem obvious, but if you're like me, I just wanted it to be primary camera, till I could get back into a prosumer or pro system. It's not that. Its for fun, travel and nature, it does not replace a descent prosumer camera.

In all my studies about the FujiFilm XS-1, I didn't then stop and do a comparison of what I could get for the same price. For me, the Nikon D5100 and even the standard kit lens (18-55 f/3.5~5.6) is better suited as a primary camera-for-now, than the XS-1.
