I make beauty/vlog videos on YouTube. I was hesitant about getting this mic over a shotgun mic - but I ultimately decided on this one, because I found a great deal on it in the Used Department. Overall, it works beautifully! I made a video with sound samples of all of the settings on this mic! .........

I received the mic yesterday. While the sound quality of the mic is really terrific, its build quality is really low. I the slider button broke the very first day when I only used a gentle nudge to move it. Really shocked that a $ dollar mic is such low quality. Really bummed that such a terrific sounding mic couldn't come with better construction.

Completely compact stereo mic!

By Ron

from Bayonne , New Jersey

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

I used stereo microphones in the past on pro video camcorders and the side and shape did not interfere with movement. When I decided to use a stereo mic on my DSLR I decided to go with a compact less intrusive system. It is tall off the camera but very short. Walking around picking up the background sounds of the city or a live band it really gets it. I do switch to boom the mic (to have a Background ambiance) away from my camera and works fine.

Rode SVMP

By EAM Studios

from Southeastern USA

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

Upon testing the SVMP on my Panasonic HDC HS900 camcorder, I am inadvertently capturing the sound of bongo drums in the background. I've turned off the AGC, adjusted the mic levels, shot indoors and out, static on a tripod and handheld with a cam caddie and the results are the same. It gets worse when I pan and the mic is not mounted on the camera, it is inches away on an extender. I have an email into Rode support as I write this, so am anxious for their reply. Googling the problem, I found a forum thread where a guy was experiencing the same issue with this mic. Jury is out until I hear from Rode, might have to seek an alternative mic. I am shooting a video for a musician in a couple weeks and want a good stereo video mic. I am also employing the Beachtek DXA Pocket to enhance my audio and have bypassed it as well as used it in my testing with the same results.

Nice STEREO Mic for 7D Mark II

By Kat

from Lilburn, Ga

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

Mic is very nice with the exception of the base of the unit that attaches to the camera. Seems like it would break easily. But overall, it works very, very well. Would strongly recommend if you're looking to record videos in stereo.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

I use this mic in the Peru for recording ambient sounds of the amazon jungle. This mic holds up well to humidity and moisture and this thing is not power hungry. One battery lasts a long long time. I love the +20 level boost as I can capture the softest of insect noises and frog calls. Not the best choice for interviews, etc, but for anything ambiental, this mic is great!

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

We were looking for a good quality microphone, at a great price.
The Rode Stereo Mic Pro beyond meets expectations in both categories.

A bulk of our film work is with: wedding, indoor/outdoor events, live music, documentary

This mic delivers solid, rich sound, and the +20db boost really helps with your DSLR requiring a higher level of line-in input.

Very happy with this product, and if we were going to buy another one, we would get the next step up model.

Can't go wrong with this one.

Great alternative to an internal microphone particularly when setup properly. Very good rich sound. Ideal for music and ambient sound recording. I have found it best to turn down the recording volume on the DSLR camera to 5 or less to remove recording hiss generated by the camera.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

I generally use a couple of Zoom H5s with a variety of XLR-connected mics for location shoots, so I also need a high quality mic to record ambient sounds to give me a realistic balance when I'm working in post. This mic does that extremely well. Listening to playback in post is almost like being back on location -- It's that good!

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

Microphone is a nice compact unit. Metal hot shoe is a benefit. The remainder of the microphone is a cheap-feeling plastic. Very thin cord to the plug. Will it stand up over time??? Biggest issue is that the microphone only worked on the left channel! Right channel didn't work at all. Tested on three different cameras and recorders. Am sending back for an exchange, hoping that I got an atypical unit. Will see..... Disappointing for a $ on camera microphone.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

I use this Mic with a Canon HF R52 videocam to record live performances of a band with vocalists. I set up (using a tripod) within 30 feet of the performers/speakers with the audience in back of the camera and mic. The quality of the recording is outstanding. The sound is accurately recorded, crystal clear and the mic does not introduce any noise of its own. The mic is directional so that it minimizes sound from behind but captures sound 180 degrees in front of it. This product exceeds my expectations, it adds realism to my video recordings. It is well worth the price.

I chose this Rode model to capture my daughter's piano and dance recitals. Easy to use. Despite it's small size (which is a plus), the sound quality it absorbs is fantastic. Only drawback I suspect is that it appears to be delicate. I would buy it again and again, however.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

I'm not expert but the stereo sound feels like you're there! it's pretty immersive. Unsurprisingly, it's not great for voice since everything sounds "far" and "drowned" in the environmental soundscape, so this is to capture ambiance. Concert maybe. Not speech. The quality is great and the construction solid, expect the cable, a little thin maybe (but no issue so far). The +20dB boost makes all the difference with a DSLR for video without background hiss.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

Got this to use while experimenting with Video on my various Nikon DSLRS and mirror less cameras. Didn't think too highly of the in Camera mics performance or the unwanted camera/lens noise so I was hoping this mic would improve in both areas. What sold me on this device was it's ability to boost the signal so that the camera's sensitivity could be reduced. I believe this greatly improves the quality of the recording. I got the stereo instead of the shotgun because I felt it would be more versatile. I'm satisfied on both counts and am well pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro:

I am happy with this microphone choice! I had done several hours of reading and comparing the other rode microphones and other brands as well vs. this one. What basically sold me on it:

It is Stereo Microphone vs. Mono channel meaning your going to hear a more full and true sound of the whole environment vs. the sound of someone standing in front of the microphone.

It is smaller and more compact than the other lesser cost Rode models.

B&H had the best overall price when considering all factors.
