            Comments about Vanguard BBH-300 Ballhead:

I was looking to upgrade my current support gear and found this to be a deal I couldn't pass up. B&H has this Ballhead on sale with the rebate for less than I could have purchased the BBH-100. Why would I not get the BBH-300 for $20 less?! Paired with the Vanguard Auctus carbon fiber legs, my camera has nothing to worry about as far as stability goes!

            Comments about Vanguard BBH-300 Ballhead:

I was looking for a solution to what I call lens creep. I have a Nikkor 70-210 zoom fixed 2.8, love the lens razor sharp and very heavy. Whenever I would shoot verticals the camera would rotate and not stay on position due to the weight of the lens. I was considering replacing lens with one with lens mount, but this is a sweet lens.
So I purchased this ballhead and an L-bracket. Next I set up the new approach with lens in a slight downward position locked on a grid target. Five hours later the lens is in the exact same position. The ballhead has no drift an easily handled the weight of the heavy lens. In the field the ballhead works smooth, easy to set and the centering feature is great. If you're looking for a great ballhead at a very competitive price - look no further.

            Comments about Vanguard BBH-300 Ballhead:

I have used this head for more than a year, on a weekly, if not daily, basis. I like it a lot, the construction is high quality, the QR plate allows me to quickly and easily move the camera around.

My one quible is that I wish the clamp were stronger. With a mid-size DSLR (Canon 60D) and a 70-200 f/4 mm lens, the clamp won't hold it in position usually if I am carrying the tripod over my shoulder. There is a lock mechanism, if you move the red slider all the way to the right and jigger the head, you feel it lock down and then the clamp will hold the camera completely solid. But, you shouldn't have to do that...just make the clamp more stronger.

This is a quibble, as I said. The head is fine for holding this camera solidly while shooting, but I am carefull to tighten the clamp a bit extra.

I read some reviews on this head & decided to go for it rather than BIG name brands at twice the price. The head arrives really well packaged. It seems very well made & is easy to operate ( I like the big knob that controls the ball action.... easy to grab & adjust ) I use it on Gitzo studex legs with a 300 F2.8 on a Canon 5D2. Rock solid. Good design , well made & smooth action. Works well & looks cool.
