I got this because I take photo's of birds and wildlife, my lenses have gotten bigger, my camera heavier, and I hook up a flash when needed. I had an accident with my old Manfrotto tripod because it couldn't hold the weight and the legs started sticking. I won't have this problem with the Gitzo, it's sturdy, well made, and relatively light because it's carbon fiber. Yes it hurt to pay that much but now that it is done I love it!!!!!

I want to talk about some of the good and bad points of my Gitzo 3 Series.Good: 1) This tripod looks beautiful with its carbon fiber weave, speckled paint, and slim leg locks. 2) The 3 series is rock solid. I do a lot of long exposures and this tripod kept everything sturdy and sharp. Up until the leg became loose. 3) The twist locks on the legs are great. With just a small easy turn the legs lock tightly into place. Much better quality twist locks than other carbon tripods I've owned. Bad: 1) Poor quality paint. After one year small pieces of paint started to chipping off on the top plate of the tripod where the leg angles are adjusted. I emailed their customer service multiple times, with no response back. The problem got progressively worst as more pieces of paint started to come off. 2) Weak casting, not CNC milled like Really Right Stuff. Gitzo and Really Right Stuff are the two top manufacturers for carbon fiber tripods and are priced about the same. Really Right Stuff is slightly more expensive. The largest difference in quality between the two is the fact that Really Right Stuff CNC mills a solid piece of metal for all of it metal parts. Gitzo uses castings to form its metal parts. Casting is a cheaper method of forming parts. The problem with casting is that it is not as precise or as strong as CNC milling a solid piece of metal. Cutting corners like this has diminished Gitzo's quality over the years. 3) Poor customer service. I email customer service numerous times about the paint coming off with no response. After two years of owning the tripod a leg became loose at the metal leg connection, I finally got in contact with customer service and I was surprised that they do not do their own warranty repair work. I was given the name of a third party repair guy that does repair and warranty work for Gitzo. My warranty claim was denied because the loose leg was caused by corrosion. The funny thing is, the leg connection was one of the few metal pieces that the paint had not chipped off of. The repair charge to replace the metal parts and fix the loose leg came out to $760. Which is basically their way of saying just spend a little more and buy a brand new one, while I keep your old tripod because it's not worth paying the shipping to send it back. If you purchase a Gitzo tripod, don't expect it to be your life long tripod. If you get 4 or 5 years out of it, you've already doubled my use out of it.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber Tripod (Standard):

I have used a pretty entry to mid level tripod and have had issues with shake and stability. I shot with a sinar f rail 4x5 camera. My first test were super low light at 1/8 of a second with no shake. Blew my mind, last tripod I will own.

Very light, sturdy, has removable rubber feet with spikes underneath. Keep in mind there is no center colum so that's taking some time to get used to.

easy to setup and close down, sturdy and beautifully made, perfect for super telephoto lenses.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber Tripod (Standard):

Well designed for quick set up, very stable (which is the number one reason to buy it) and quite light. I can't think of a con except it is fairly expensive. But hay, it should last for many years of use.

The right stuff for great photography! The Gitzo GT3532 series 3 and Arca-Swiss Z1 are well engineered and manufactured. This rig is ideal for pan-o, HDR and any other photography that will benefit from great stability. The Gitzo Systematic Series offers better flexibility for future accessories and configuration. You can't find better value than this world class, Pro Tripod and head. This tripod is a joy to use.
