I bought this one on sale a few years ago, since I seem to have Camera Knapsack Acquisition Disorder. Anyways, while I meant for it to be a bag for carrying kit when shooting from the car, I've since taken it on planes to two separate desert excursions where my "do-it-all-backcountry" F-Stop Gear bag couldn't go on the plane. While you may think this is only for urban environments, I've had it in the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuauan Deserts, on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and in 5 US desert states and 4 US national parks, full of red baby-powder sand. The sand just comes off this bag somehow, and my lenses and cameras have always been perfectly coddled inside this bag, from rain, ocean, sand, deserts, drops and thuds. This bag carries a huge amount, works well to vent heat from your back, and takes a licking and keeps on ticking. This TT bag is as well built, if not better built than most, if not all bags I've seen. Buy this and know that it will go on airplanes, it will hold your glass and take being dropped (twice) from the back of an SUV, will protect in rain, in desert, in heat and cold.

I brought this bag to carry most of my equipment in one bag. These include Nikon 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 300 mm (f4), TC1.4, and my 4x6 filters and filter adapter.

The things I like are that its well made, very comfortable, and built to last. Its also roomy. However, the bag's layout unevenly skews the padding leaving very little room on one side for things fatter than a flash or similar item. This leaves the space poorly utilized with filters, flashes, etc while leaving all the heavier lenses on the right. You can adjust the separators/padding to gain some additional room on the thin side but not a whole lot. I wish they split the space evenly on both side.

The second item I did not like is that the bag is ~1-2 inches deeper than it needs to be (probably to accommodate the more heavier laptops). This makes it appear as if one is walking with a fat suitcase on their back.

Although I'd recommend this bag, please carefully consider your use before you buy. When you spend this kind of money, you should get exactly what you want.

First Impression is Very Postitive

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

I have only used this bag a couple of times, so I can't speak to its durability, but it seems to suit my purposes well. I have a large LowePro backpack suitable for hiking, but it is too bulky for air travel and it is too heavy for me to hike with these days. Since I am usually shooting within a couple of miles of my car, I wanted a smaller bag that would still hold enough lenses for a day of shooting and also one I could carry onto planes. I can carry my 5D Mark III, a wide angle, an intermediate zoom, and the 100-400 in this bag along with most of the necessary filters, batteries, etc. The bag has comfortable shoulder straps and is fine for the hiking I do. I don't use the waist belt, which is pretty minimal. I normally carry my tripod over my shoulder, so have not used that feature. The various pouches are not overly large, so there isn't a lot of extra room for a jacket or more than the basic array of filters and extra cards, batteries. But it's fine for day hiking and the lack of big pouches make it more compact for air travel. The founder of this company has developed a new line of bags designed more for hiking if you want a more heavily padded bag better suited for longer hikes, but this one is great for day use and short to medium hikes and travel.

Best travel backpack ever!

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

The ThinkTank Streetwalker Series backpack isn't just another piece of gear, it's a fully customizable photo studio portability system. The construction seems unusually durable, right down to the zippers and inside pockets. The backpack overall is a lot lighter than expected for such construction, and it comes with a complete rain cover so the backpack can stay dry in unexpected rain. What also come with the Streetwalker backpack are tripod straps - both smaller, portable tripods and larger, heavier tripods with the fold-out pocket for heavy tripod leg stability. By itself it can hold a 17-inch laptop snugly and safely in the most padded area of the backpack, even with two ungripped bodies. With a gripped body in the backpack, a 15-inch laptop fits perfectly. The rest is a system of padded but rearrangeable compartments that easily accommodate two or three camera bodies and still have room for a good selection of lenses and flashes. The "speed belt", or "steroid belt", connects securely to the backpack and allows for several clever add-ons that can customize the backpack even further, like a rapid-change lens pouch, the Pixel Pocket Rocket memory card holder and more. One of the best features of this backpack is that it fits almost all photographer sizes, from the petite female to the larger man. The ThinkTank Streetwalker series backpack is a wise investment that will grow with one's photography and offer the versatility to remain the go-to gear for years to come.

Great Bag!!... but too big for me

By Chuck J

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

This is a great bag as expected from Think Tank Photo. However, the height of the bag was more than I wanted to handle. One disappointment was the ease of inserting and removing a laptop. With a thick 15.6" display laptop, inserting and removing was too cumbersome. A top opening instead of a side opening for the laptop compartment might be better. I ended up returning it.

Pleasantly Surprised

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

This bag holds more than I expected. I have a Nikon D750 with battery grip, and a 24-70 VR, 24-120, 70-200 VRII along with my flash. The Street-Walker seems to be comfortable for a backpack, and it holds so much more than my old backpack.

I would recommend this bag for someone who wants to carry a lot, plus it meets airline standards for carrying on board.

The bag is spacious and has adequate compartments. The construction is sturdy and the straps are really comfortable. I would highly recommend this bag

I have been looking for a backpack that holds everything I need and is not too big and this backpack fits the bill. I only wish that it had an exterior accessible area for headphones and other bulky items you want to get to easily when traveling.

Love this, it was just what we needed to fit on the smaller plane for our trip. Regular size wouldn"t have worked with the smaller storage space on the plane; and we never want to check our gear. Highly recommend this to anyone needing a smaller bag or for weddings and photo shoots.

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

Used on recent photo workshop in France. Worked great for me.

Passed for carry on size (mid 2015) on any flight I have been on so far (although it does exceed max Depth by a small amount).

Comparison with Mindshift Gear Rotation 180 Professional:

          PROs:
Looks a lot more compact than the Mindshift Gear Rotation 180 backpack, even though by measures it is not that much smaller (about 2 inches in each dimension). Will be less likely to get you under scrutiny at the gate when boarding.

Fits a lot more gear than the Mindshift with the lens case insert - like in 'a LOT more'. Well organized interior. Sufficient padding.

          CONS:
Doesn't hold much besides photo gear - like a rain jacket, water reservoir etc. So not ideal for hour long hikes. The Mindshift Gear Rotation 180 is better for that.

          OVERALL:
I would recommend the HardDrive over the Rotation 180 for anybody wanting to haul more gear and that will use gear in situations where putting the backpack down to change lenses will not be an issue. Even if the latter is a potential issue, combining the HardDrive with the Think Tank Photo PRO SPEED BELT V2.0 works very well and is in my opinion a better combo that should cover 90%+ of the cases where quick and easy-access lens change is required. And that combo allows for added flexibility. Use the Mindshift Lens Switch Case over the Think Tank one though - it has better access and is not as bulky!

For foreign travel holds my 7d, 100-400 II, telescope, binocs, flash, and still room for other stuff. It's safer than checking gear and keeps the weight out of the suitcase as well. A bit heavy by itself but less so than some others I've used.

Well made, somewhat configurable. will actually hold my HP 17 inch laptop if I do not use the large body. (it will fit too, just tight on the zipper!) Carries well and fits even very small overheads on aircraft. (realize you will have to get it past the gate Cerabus as anything black is evil to those hateful souls even though this is way under the numbers.) I have found it fits under the seats on some Airbus units. Very recommended

I purchased this bag for a trip to Iceland and Japan. The bag has held up very well and has had plenty of storage for all my camera gear + a couple items used for carry on for my flights. The bag is very well made and comfortable.

I do wish there was a little more space in the laptop area but overall I feel it is secure enough for my MacBook Pro. I also like to slide my Wacom Tablet in with my laptop which fits but I would just like a little bit more room.

For Iceland, I had my D810 with Battery Grip attached to an 85mm 1.4g. I also carried 2 Carl Zeiss wide angle lenses, 3 external hard drives, flashlight, rain jacket, book, batteries, chargers, cables, laptop, Wacom tablet and a few other small things.

I'm a bag junkie. I've tried just about everything. This is one of the very few bags, aside from Pelican cases, that have both lasted and have the flexibility to carry a wide range of gear from laptops to iPads, to telephotos, to up to 3 bodies (one with attached lens). It reliably fits in the overhead on a flight, which is a HUGE asset. All in all, I can trust it and it has held up very very well for several years.

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

The Streetwalker HardDrive is deceptively small backpack that carries a lot of gear. It is narrower than many other comparably-sized bags, and fits very comfortably on my back. I fit a 5dmkII with 17-35 f2.8 attached, hood reversed; a 7d w/70-200 f2-8 attached, hood reversed; a 50mm f 1.4; a 24mm f1.4, two 580 EXIIs; a roll of gaffers tape and some other doodads; all in the main compartment. The inside pockets hold cards, filters, etc. The thing I don't like a about this pack is the side outer pockets. They're narrow and long, but shallow. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to fit in there. At the moment, I have a Canon speed light battery pack in one of them. The outer front top pocket is sized nicely for biz cards, pens, etc. The zippers seem pretty heavy-duty. That's where my last pack failed; hoping I get more usage out of this one.

I am always unhappy to haul around a tripod attaching to the outside of the bag, especially when travelling. I have checked out a number of bags and finally settled on this one base on quality, proper size and comfort. This bag can fit the following: 70-200 zoom on Canon 5D, 24-70 lens, 16-35 lens, 100 F2.8 Macro, flashlight, all lens hoods, plus a Gitzo traveler tripod that folded to 14". I fit a small reflector in the laptop compartment for portrait and flower shots. A sandwich, drink and some snacks can be fit on top of the tripod as the bag is so deep....or pack a light jacket. Although the wide and well padded harness make carrying such big load less painful...there is lots of room for improvement by learning from the leading camping backpack designs. In summary, this bag is comparatively expensive but like buying a more luxurious car, you can feel the difference.

Comments about Think Tank Photo StreetWalker HardDrive (Black/Silver/Blue):

I use this product for my Canon 6D, speedlight, tripod, backup camera body, two lenses, and accessories. The bag is sweet and the tripod pouch is very handy but is also easily concealed in the bag when not in use. The laptop section is separated from the rest of the bag and is padded nicely for your workstation. The lockable zippers are also a plus; not big enough for a combo lock but work nicely with a good padlock. It is also very comfortable for long hikes and has a waist band. The only downsides (besides price) come when a tripod is attached. The tripod extends below the bottom of the bag when attached when means that the bag cannot sit flat on the ground when the tripod is attached; it has to be leaned against something or it will be laying flat on the ground. It is also difficult to keep bulky accessories in the back pouches when a full-sized tripod is attached; it would be nice if the tripod pouch was on the side and if the other side had a water bottle pouch, leaving plenty of room in the back pouches for bigger items.
