This is really a fun new gizmo. It's easy to download pictures I've taken with my D7100 to my iPhone which I can then email to family members around the country. Downloading is slow, so it's only practical for one or two photos. Using it to take self-portraits or group photos with the camera on a tripod and the iPhone to monitor Live View and trigger the photo works really well. You can see on the iPhone screen exactly what the camera will take. The camera settings have to be done on the camera before shooting, but hopefully this will be an added feature to the iPhone app in the future. Example photo taken with D7100 on tripod, ISO 800, 1/20 sec, f/5.6, focal length 31mm on AF-S 17-55mm 1:2.8G Nikkor lens.

Purchased the camera becaseu it had this option. Design could be better...sim card? It isn;t bulky but it does stick out form the camera a bit. Could get dammaged if not careful. It does come with a neat little storage container that connects to the strap. I modified it a bit and it is pretty convenient. Some reviews say it has trouble staying connected. I experiences some similar behavior although I think it was becasue my wifi at home was competing for the connection. I ssuspect this is less of a problem whne not near an automatically connecting hotspot.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

I like to use this when I'm on a shoot and get a great shot that needs little to no editing so I can post. It's also nice to show a client an image on my phone that has a bigger and better screen than my viewfinder. I haven't found anything I dislike about it. I was worried when I saw how tiny this is but then it has a case and a very long wrist strap. Its small, handy, and makes getting images on my phone so much easier and was a great buy. It would be so great if you're travelling and don't have any editing programs on your laptop so you can still share what you're doing.

Very cool little device. Works as adverstised. Warning, don't carry the thing in its case on your strap. You will lose it. I did, and found it in the driveway. Worked fine after a few days laying in the gravel. Its really a good item for shooting pictures of birds and wildlife and for group pictures you want to be in.

Works great! I did not have any problem using it with my D7100. I installed the iOS app first and then connected it wirelessly with my camera. Awesome device.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

Nice equipment but it's not fast enough and android application is old and very limited. With Nikon d7100, one photo download takes 5 - 10 sec with quarter size (1620 x 1200 ~1MB). And It drops connection sometimes. Overall it's very cheap and useful.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

Worked well with first trial and one picture on camera. Then during sons soccer game, when I really had a picture to share, the WU-1a froze up. I believe that it was because I had 20-30 pictures on the camera and it tried to download all of them at once. Not happy with this product.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

Even though it has limited utility (remote viewing, remote triggering, and photo transfers), this little adapter is pretty cool. It is smaller than I had imagined, so keeping the string attached is pretty important if you don't want to lose it. However, it works very well. There is a little bit of a lag time between triggering the camera on your iPhone and the camera responding, and there is a little more lag time as it transfers the photo to your iPhone, but nothing that is bothersome given what I want to do with it.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

I went in to buy this product because I simply wanted to be able to send photos to my iPhone after taking them on my camera. Little did I know that I would actually be able to control my camera directly FROM my iPhone. The app that goes with this is really nice and easy to set up. Sending photos over the built-in wifi network is very fast. Honestly, I couldn't be happier. And it's so small!!!

I've had the opportunity to add this to several of my cameras over the last couple of years but thought it was a goofy waste of time and stubbornly waited for Nikon to build this tech into the OEM cameras, finally I broke down and bought this for my Coolpix A boy what a dummy I was this thing is great especially when used with the mobile phone app Yes, all Nikons should have built in WiFi in 2014 but until they do. Get this adapter and begin sharing your photos IMMEDIATELY over social media etc you wont regret it

The communication between this adapter and tablet drops occasionally even though the distance between them is only one foot or less. Otherwise, other functions are okay.

Rcvd device for Bday - installed in Nikon D3200. downloaded app for iPhone 5 - works great transfering to iPhone. Downloaded same app (WMU) to iPadAir - tried to transfer photos to iPad - unit kept dropping connection - would not complete transfer of all photos selected. Would like to see a more stable app for iPad
Would recommend only to use on iPhone

The WU-1a is designed only for taking photos remotely. Every photo you take using the app is automatically saved to your phone or tablet but you are not able to transfer any other files from your camera.
I was very disapponted and Nikon does not make that clear in their product description.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

The Nikon WU-1a Wireless Adapter is extremely useful. I downloaded the free application from Nikon. I was able to see what the camera is focused on, take pictures and download them to my phone with my D5200 from over 50 feet away and behind 6 walls in my home. I repeated the test with my tablet. That is the ultimate torcher test. I have used it to take family photos without having to run into the picture at the last second. I can see that everyone is looking at the camera and have their eyes open. After taking the picture I can view it to see if it came out the way I wanted it to. I have used it to take pictures of our 10 week old puppy Vizsla playing fetch. Priceless. It comes with a little protector case and string tether. I ran the tether through the cover and then looped it on my camera strap so it is always available.

The adapter is easy to install. Download of the Nikon app to my Android smartphone was very easy. Connecting the Wifi works well and it works parallel to other Wifi. Uploading pictures happens within a good time frame. The only negative point is, that you can't see the picture on the smartphone screen when you take a picture via remote control from your phone. Would be great if NIKON could add that to the app.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

First off, I bought a refurb one. They are refurbed from Nikon and have a 90 day warranty. If something is going to go wrong it would happen within that time frame. Don't hesitate buying a refurb if you're thinking about it.Now, if you use Android, I highly recommend grabbing DSLR Dashboard. [@]/There are so many more features with DSLRdashboard then Nikon's WMU. Basically WMU will let you look at photos on the camera and transfer any you would want on your phone, and you can take pictures, which sets the camera in live view when you do so. There is not much control of settings in WMU. However in DSLR Dashboard you can control metering, focus servo, WB, mode, type and quality of the photo, ISO, bracketing, and so much more. Settings allow you to choose weather you want to save the photo to either or both as you take it, if you want to auto review, etc.Now a word of advice if trying to use this on an S4. Go to your wifi settings and disable auto connect to wifi. If you do not, you will get error messages from the phone saying the internet connection is too slow and it will not stay connected to the WU-1a. Also, if you do download Nikon's WMU, make sure it is forced stop on your phone to use DSLR Dashboard, or else WMU will try to autoconnect and not let Dashboard connect.

Comments about Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter:

The WU-1a wireless mobile adapter works well and connects to both my iPad and iPhone. I was able to download the photos using the Wi-Fi on both devices, but didn't test the range from the camera to the devices. The main issue is the App from iTunes. The instructions that come with the WU-1a describe its use on an Android tablet. The iTunes store only lists the App for the iPhone and not the iPad, but nevertheless you can download it on both devices. The App doesn't appear as functional as that described for Android devices. Hopefully, someone at Nikon will send iTunes an improved App.

The small case keeps it from being lost, but it is a little awkward having it on the camera strap all of the time.
