I'm an entry-level photographer and wanted a small, lightweight, and durable tripod for a variety of situations. So far I've used this tripod for product photography and landscapes. I've mounted my Nikon D3200 on it with ease. The mounting plate was a perfect square so it didn't matter which way I attached it to the head. The ball-joint head makes composing quick and easy. I wish there was a separate knob to adjust the rotating axis instead of the one knob that also adjusts the ball-joint. I'd like to be able to rotate my camera without losing my positioning with the ball-joint. But for the price, that'd be my only gripe. Other than that, the twisting leg adjustment makes for easy one-handed operation. The detachable monopod is a great addition, although don't expect it's height to match the full height of the tripod. I'm roughly 5' 7" and the full height of the tripod easily comes to eye level. The monopod requires me to crouch a bit but it's hardly a deal-breaker. The case is a nice, double-zippered nylon bag. Inside you'll find a small zippered pocket to store the shoulder strap, instruction manual, and hex keys. Overall a very good product. Delivery was prompt. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Can't edit my previous review so here is my previous review and more positive thoughts after using the tripod.

" I got this tripod today. When extending the legs for the first time the bottom leg pull out when I opened if fully and was checking to make sure it was fully extended. Two white sleeves/bushings came out. I tried another leg and the same thing happened. I also find the workmanship suspect. I will be calling B&H to return it.

I decided to try the tripod, as it is relatively light and mobile. I like it a lot. It is sturdy for a lightweight tripod and very easy to use. The Quick Release works great and I find that I can easily adjust it. I think the workmanship, other than my problem with the bushings, is O.K. This tripod my needs. I think I will either keep it (as I just have to be a little careful when extending the bottom legs to maximum, as there is now no stop) or exchange it. I have increased the stars to 3 and they would be 4 or 5 if I did not have this problem.

I shoot mostly landscapes but have recently done some portrait sessions. In every case this equipment proved reliable and a very stable platform. I hang my camera bag from the center post, providing even more stabilization. Cannot wait to test the mono pod feature.

    Oben tripod

    By Klea

Comments about Oben AT-3421 Aluminum Travel Tripod with BA-106T Ball Head:

This product feels high quality and is wonderfully designed with the exception of the bolts. The bolt where a stabilizing weight would hang must constantly be tightened in addition to the bolt on the quick release plate. I lost the quick release plate within the first hour of having it connected to my camera. I had tightened it as tight as I could with a coin. I have always left my quick release plates on my camera long-term and have never lost one until now. Very disappointing.

Also, note that this tripod comes with a quick release plate. B&H list a quick release plate as a recommended accessory and I ordered it and did not need it. The Specs indicate that the tripod comes with a quick release plate, but I had missed that.

Comments about Oben AT-3421 Aluminum Travel Tripod with BA-106T Ball Head:

I was in need of a small, lightweight and versatile tripod for my small, lightweight Sony a6000 camera. Small and light weight equipment get used whill big, heavy stuff gets left behind. I did a lot of looking and was amazed with all this tripod could do. It folds 180 degrees backward so that the base is inside the legs and no longer adding to the foldedl length. The closed length is less than 17". The legs can also be locked into several positions giving many heitht and cleerance options. The main post can be turned upside down for very low shooting. One leg can be unscrewed and attached to the main post for use as a monopod. The ball head has a quick release and is completely adjustable with one locking leaver. If things get windy of you need extra stability there is also a sandbag hook. It all goes into a very nice bag that has a hand hold, shoulder strap and inside pocket. The whole rig is only 6.6lbs. I can't think of what more they could have included. The maximum load is 6.6lbs. and my camera with 55-210 zoom, flash and remote shutter release is well under that and ready for a bigger lens. I use this mostly for envirinmental photography. For studio use, I would for a larger Oben tripod.

I travel abroad with several cameras and lenses. These lightweight tripods are a perfect fit for my pelican cases. Prefer my larger, heavier tripods when available but not enough to bring them on out of country shoots. Definitely earned its spot.

For the price it does the job. I would recommend if you have a heavy lens on it you wear a neck strap as a back up.

I love the ease of the ball head. The legs are sturdy, for the camera sizes recommended. I love the leg that comes off for a monopod. This is very versatile. I love that it fits in my messenger bag so I can take it wherever I need.

The tripod & head are well built. Of course, considering the unit's weight, it is not super rigid. The carrying bag is overkill, being too bulky but also so short the tripod needs to be twisted around from its inverted storage position to its working position. That money would be better spent on the ball head, with a lock for rotation, a lock on the quick release (scary with expensive camera)and better friction control on the ball, which goes from firmly locked to floppy in an instant.

Let's be realistic. The Oben AT-3421 Tripod with BA-106T Head isn't my 10lb, steady as a rock tripod I don't carry around because it is too big and too heavy. Neither is it my pocket tripod that weighs a few ounces and sits my camera 4 or 5 inches off the ground or a table. It is light enough and compact enough to carry with my backpack or in my luggage on a hike or trip. It gets my camera off the ground and eye-level to photograph landscapes, people, etc. Got to admit, I don't get too far away from the set-up if there is much wind. I think it will come in handy. It has many positive features you can read for yourself. I might have preferred locks instead of twists. But it ought to do...
