I did some serious testing on the stability of this setup using a Nikon D800e camera and a 1.2 lb lens. I attached a laser pointer to the side of the lens mounted on the camera and aimed the whole setup across a 30 ft. room, noting the location and any movement of the dot formed by the laser (on the wall).I put the camera in "mirror up" shooting mode, which allowed me to press my wireless shutter remote once to raise the mirror, and then a second time to actually fire the shutter. I set a manual shutter speed of 2 seconds. The tripod legs were fully extended and the center column was not extended at all. The tripod was sitting on a rug.The result was that on raising the mirror remotely, I could see the laser pointer dot moving slightly for about 0.7 seconds. Then I fired the shutter and no movement was seen until the shutter closed (after 2 seconds). The closing of the shutter also induced similar movement to the mirror going up. To me, this seems like very good stability in a 5-section tripod: to dampen the mirror movement in under 1 second.Overall, I like this setup. It's compact, light, and the ballhead seems to work quite well. I also purchased a different mounting plate (Sunwayphoto PN-D800) which has a strap loop and fits the Nikon D800/800e perfectly). This plate works well with this ballhead.

Purchased this tripod for my 5DIII, loved it when I first received it. I have been using this for about 5 months now and it's beginning to show signs of wear and tear after light use. I would call the ball head subpar quality, it can't even support the weight of my 5DIII without wiggling around, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of a stable tripod. One I make adjustments i will tighten up the head and the whole thing settles into place where the rotating parts meat the base no matter how hard I tighten it. Wasn't an issue at first but developed over using it less than a dozen times. The second issue. I have had is the construction is overall pretty flimsy. While carbon fiber is one of the strongest lightest materials around, the inside bits you can't see are made from cheap brittle plastic. How do i know this? I was in the middle of Northern Michigan around 1am trying to do some astrophotography, as i am extending the legs(the monopod one) i hear a snap. The end most leg section falls into the snow. I get out my flashlight to find the little white plastic stopper that keeps leg sections from over extending has snapped in half and part of it fell into the snow never to be seen again. Annoyed, I fumbled the leg back in, in the pitch black northern michigan night and said good bye to ever making this tripod easy to level again. Is it light? yes. Is it pretty? yes. is it functional? kind of. This may be a fine tripod for a smaller camera, but its been nothing but more and more disappointing as i keep using it, and now that one of the monopod leg's stoppers snapped its inconvenient to even use as a monopod.

Comments about Oben CT-3581 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with BE-126T Ball Head:

      All around great product!
I'll be using this for landscape photography mainly. It is incredibly steady! Just a tad bit heavier than I estimated it to feel (that's my fault).
Overall, I'd recommend this product and was surprised because it was my first time purchasing Oben. Extremely compact design for how tall it gets!

Overall I am very pleased with this tripod. It holds my 300mm f/4 with ease, is very stable, and easy to set up / take down. If you decide to order one, be sure to pick up a couple of extra quick release plates that fit it.

Comments about Oben CT-3581 Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with BE-126T Ball Head:

This product sounded and looked promising. It's lightweight and looks good. This tripod feels cheap to hold with an expensive price tag. The finish was cheap. The ball head was defective on arrival. The after-sales customer service was very poor and not helpful. I guess this is one of those products where you can compare to a "box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get". I would not recommend this brand to anyone thinking of buying a good quality tripod. Such a hassle to return if you're from overseas like Australia. Bad buy.

I was very excited to finaly get a great light weight tripod. Oben offered the best price and per its the consumer comments it was a win win for me. Whats expecially great is the light weight of the carbon fiber. I travel allot and takes pictures all the time and carry less weight helps a great deal. I was especially suprised that it cam with a nice padded carry bag which I didnt know it was included. I have no complaints with your product.

Taking heavy lenses into the woods or into football stadiums is tough enough. Your tripod shouldn't add to your schlepping ! The CT-3581 is light and small to carry, but nicely supports the heavy lenses that I own. In New England in the winter, the metal spikes can be protruded out of the feet...solving the other problem is the camera and tripod slipping around!

Liked the tight turning of the head and the firm locking of the ball.
Liked the compact size when folded up for transport.
When fully extended is a little flimsy.

I purchased this tripod in December and just used in for the 2nd time to photograph fireworks on July 4th....very light utilization to date. When extending the legs, multiple sections of the legs were falling off and small plastic pieces were falling out of the openings as well. I've returned the tripod to B&H for repair or replacement. Based on my experience and other current reviews of this product, I would strongly consider a product from another manufacturer.

Read all the reviews and was excited to start using this tripod. It was my first venture into an upgrade, more expensive tripod. Right out of the box as I was extending the legs, the section came apart and three little plastic pieces fell out. I returned immediately because I felt it was too easy for the sections to come apart when I was only trying to extend the legs and I did not want to try to reassemble the plastic pieces because it was brand new. I was very disappointed and did not replace it with the same product.

5 stars and I returned it, but only because after getting it, I felt I'd be fine with the next lighter model (CT-3451 with BE-113T). I've worked as a machinist, and this thing is impressively nice. I carry my gear backpacking and sea kayaking, and after seeing how solid it was, I decided the 2.5 lb model would work fine, and at more than a pound lighter, I'd not leave it behind when space and weight are at a premium. The ball head (on either) are very nicely built, provides smooth view change, and no sag to the camera when ball clamp is tightened. Legs are fine too, all features are very well designed and built.

This tripod is light and breaks down to a very small package. The center column extends quickly, allowing me to adjust for height very smoothly and without interrupting my workflow. One leg is removable to be used as a monopod, which is very important since many museums in Korea do no allow tripods. This received a five star rating at B and H photo. The only drawback I see is that I have to carry two allen keys with me to be able to make adjustments to the head. I personally do not like allen keys, but I do like how firmly it allows me to attach my camera to the baseplate.

This is a fantastic, sturdy, lightweight, and compact tripod perfect for hiking with medium weight pro gear. (Pro DSLR, 70-200 f2.8, 200-400 f4, etc.) Have used it for some night photography already as well as several days of hiking through Yosemite and couldn't be more pleased.
