I will be the first to admit that I don't want to bother to take the time to set shutter speed, f-stop, ISO, etc when I am taking pictures, but I still want to end up with quality images. I have been the route with several CDCs and even one DSLR I have finally found my perfect camera in the Panasonic Lumix FZ200. Let me add that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, so weight, flexibility and ease of managing controls is a huge factor for me - but I also want pictures that turn out very nicely. I can handle this camera with one hand easily.
Right out of the box, just figuring out how to use the camera, the resulting pictures are extremely impressive. The clarity and depth of field are outstanding. The Intelligent Zoom is unbelievable - it's like having a spy camera now! I am a novice photographer, but I know quality pictures when I download them. Obtaining the desired results with this camera is done with ease. You have to try very hard to get a bad shot. I can easily say the initial results were stunning.
The LCD is easy to view and very detailed. I am at the age where everything up close is a blur, but the LCD screen is perfectly sized. Having the option to switch to the viewfinder is very nice to have especially when zooming.
The icons on the display are easy to understand, managing the controls is pretty intuitive. And the camera takes over so much it is hardly ever necessary to adjust any settings. It truly is 'intelligent'.
I have only used the video feature once so far, but I very much like the one-button feature for recording video. Very convenient.
I am still figuring out all of the camera's features but I have yet to find something that I don't like about it. Habitually I have stuck to another highly regarded well-known brand of cameras, and I and very glad that I took the plunge and kicked the brand habit.

I am amazed by this new camera however I almost returned it because the manual was so poor. I am new to this type of camera and it was the advanced features that I was most interested in understanding. The manual was useless - worse than useless. The small booklet which accompanies the camera basically instructed me on how to attach the strap and lens cover. Not much more ! The PDF file on the enclosed CD was vague and not helpful in understanding WHY or WHEN a particular action was appropriate. I reverted to You Tube and found a very knowledgeable Englishman -- Graham Houghton - has presented 12 or 13 short videos on how to get the most from my camera. Thank God for You Tube. Mr. Houghton calls his tutorial series "The Missing Manual". So at least I know I'm not the only one who has been frustrated by this poor excuse for a teaching manual. Happily - if one is able to learn how to use it, ...... the camera is great !!!!

The LUMIX DMC-FZ200 has tremendous flexibility. It is a fine camera for close-ups or distance. I find it superb for macro photography of insects.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I purchased this camera in March 2014. I was concerned about camera weight because of my arthritis. What a remarkable camera this is!! You do not need to print out the user info. You do need to find the User's Manual by Graham Houghton. It is out there. You can also see him with the camera on "You Tube," but the segments are short and I could not watch and take notes at the same time, so go for the book. This is a compact camera, not a point and shoot; see "Confessions of a Compact Camera Shooter" by Rick Sammon. The camera almost has too many options! The only thing I have not actively worked on is action sequences, but I do not anticipate that they will be a problem.
This wonderful camera will and can do it all. all. Enjoy!!!!

Nice little camera, but feels too much like a toy. Very nice zoom. Picture quality just OK, but not great. Returned for Olympus OMD EM10 to get better quality photos with a more substantial small camera.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I am geting pretty close to eighty and I enjoy taking pictures of every pleasent moment of my life. This Panasonic does the job right.
The only thing that I found that it is not working as it should is that if you choose on the setup menu page 5 line five "on" for "PLAY ON LCD" It will not happen, in this way when you use the fiew finder to take a picture it should show the image on the LCD AUTOMATICLY with out the need to press the EVF/LCD button located at the rear of the camera, Mr. Graham Hougton confirmed that this is true. Other wise this camera works as it shoul be.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I had been reading about photo sensors and how they had improved expodentally in the last couple of years. Intrigued by the possibility of much greater depth of field using a small sensor and a high quality lens I started looking around for a camera that incorporated both. I settled on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 it had a Leica lens and the small size (point ad Shoot) type sensor and the price point was right.

The camera was to be used along side my Nikons (d800e & 7200) as a back up and experimental camera. I wanted to see how much background I could hold shooting closeup at 25mm equivalent on the small sensor. I was pleasantly pleased at the way it came out. I was even more pleased as I got to messing with the lens which had a equivelent range from 25-600mm with a constant f2.8. at the long end it is really pretty darn sharp. and I was able to shoot ducks on our pond hand held on an overcast day.

This camera has a completely articulated LCD as well as a great eye level electronic viewfinder. It behaves like a Single Lens Reflex which makes it easy for me to use. It is not heavy and a little smaller than the Lumix G4. It does not have interchangeable lens. But the Leica lens that is build on the thing is pretty darn good. And behaves like the prime f2.8 zooms on my Nikons only in miniature and out to a whopping 600mm. This is all incorporated in this compact size unit. If you are used to lugging lots of gear you don't even know you have this.

On the minus side the LCD is a bit prone to looking grainy even though the picture is not. It has to be switched on if you want to chose it over the eye level one. There is a switch on the upper right side by the eye piece. The tripod socket is off center. Not under the lens. Being used to the Nikon menu system the Panasonic system seemed a little cumbersome to use.

It has a bunch of "whistles and bells" which I don't mess with as well as a pretty darn good setup for movie making. I am a still photographer left over from the film days and am still amazed that 36 exposures don't cost anything. This thing has burst modes and several idiot modes which I don't use. I like to keep it simple and this camera can do that, it has full manual, AP , SP, Pro. mode just like the Nikons. It is all easy to set with a twist knob on top. It has two selectors for memory modes and a total of 4 that you can select and setup like you want. Very handy. There is a lever on the side to zoom the lens or it can be set to focus the lens in manual that is where I have it set. It has a AF, AF-macro and manual selector just behind that. Image stabilization stays on unless you turn it off in the menus, but it doesn't seem to mess up if you put the camera on a tripod, so I leave it on most of the time.

This camera produces good sharp images. It has a tendency to drop highlights and ,as it is a small 12 meg sensor, its a bit contrasty. Honest to God though the 12" x 18" prints made with this camera are almost indistinguishable to those made with my Nikons.

If you are looking for a good bridge camera with a whole lot of possibilities I would take a good look at this.

I bought this for my wife to enable her to have a variety of lenses without all the complications of a DSLR. So far, it has worked out great. Manuals were a little "Sketchy" so I found a You Tube channel run by a guy in the UK and he has filled in the gaps.

This camera is very versatile. Shoots decent videos as well.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I wanted a camera that was lighter than my Canon DSLR. I was willing to give up the ability to do some things but still wanted a powerful camera that would be good for travel photos. I wasn't willing to give up looking thru a viewfinder to stage the shot (the tiny screen just doesn't work for me). And I wanted something more than the tiny point and shoot or my iPhone. This one totally fills the bill. I can't wait to learn how to use it. The manual on the included disc looks like it's very thorough and I plan to work my thru it to learn all the ins and outs of my new camera.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I typically shoot with a professional Nikon outfit but had to send my unit off for cleaning and repair so I purchased this camera as a lightweight backup to take on a family vacation. Boy was I surprised! This camera has a lot of bang for the buck! It's 2.8 aperature throughout its super telephoto range is a perk that costs thousands of dollars on a digital SLR. It has the capability to shoot in RAW, RAW+jpg, or straight jpg. Aperature and Shutter Priority modes as well as manual, giving the user some creative control. The metering and focusing system is top notch but spot metering and focus controls are tough to manipulate quickly. I shoot wildlife so these controls are important to me and necessary to be able to adjust for challenging lighting conditions. Believe it or not, I got the best photos in full automatic mode! The downside to automatic modes is the lack of control in certain situations. The burst mode has a high and fast fps (frames per second)which comes in handy for moving subjects. This makes up for the slight shutter lag time. I suggest getting the fastest cards you can afford. This speeds up the write time to the card. This camera is a winner and will be in my bag for an upcoming trip. I look forward to getting to know it better and truly push it to the limits but so far, it has done what I needed it to do!I suggest that a beginner photographer take a class to learn what the controls do otherwise it is easy to get overwhelmed. Learn the terminology and the basics of photography. It will help beginners feel more confident.

If I could have only one camera, this would be it. With its large, constant 2.8 aperture through about 25-600mm and light weight, compact design it is hard to beat. The build quality is excellent, and though not rated weatherproof it has survived many days in the rain and rough treatment. It takes great long distance action shots, like birds, in low light.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

The photos are very good quality and the camera has features often found in DSLR's. I am pleased that I can shoot in "Raw" and I found the instructions especially easy to follow. Great zoom lens as well.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This is a great camera as a back-up when you do not want to lug around the heavy DSLR and several lenses. It would be a good first camera too. The images are sharp. The leica lens is super. The manual is okay, but there are fine videos on the Internet to make up for that. There really are many more features than most people would ordinarily use, but they are there if you want them. It just takes time to get used to the structure of the menues. It is good for most occassions, but a bit noisy above 400 ISO, but then most smaller cameras are.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I was eager to get a camera that would take action photos both indoor (dance competitions) and outdoor (soccer, dance at football games). I am not very interested in the technical aspect, but wanted the opportunity to have a chance to learn some "tricks," if I should decide to explore that area. Eli was extremely helpful and patient. He asked me questions about what I wanted - and found a camera (less than I had stated as my budget) that was right for me. I did require some phone help with setting up certain aspects of the camera - and did not hesitate to contact B&H, as I had found their customer service excellent. It was again. I have since taken the camera on vacation, and have enjoyed using it, and the amazing pictures it has produced. Thank you B & H - I love my Panasonic Lumix camera!!!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

Coming from a Leica M1 rangefinder and a Olympus OM-1 SLR (film and fixed focal length lenses cameras) to the FZ200, and I am just blown away. That lens is incredible. I've always been a "the body's only job is to hold the lens, the lens is the camera."

Shooting at F2.8 with the focal length bumping 600, instant great picture as the subject "pops" from the background. I'm just loving it.

I also agree with the other positives other reviewers have mentioned. Image quality and image stabilization are excellent. Loving the compact size and light weight (and, in their time, the M1 and OM-1 were considered light, compact cameras).

A totally wonderful camera. Just wish it had a longer zoom. I'm addicted.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I'm a serious amateur photographer who has been taking photos ever since I was 8 years old, when I first requested a camera for my birthday and got one. I learned the basics of camera and film optics early on and have been applying them successfully to my photos for decades. You would think that I would be the type of photographer that would have invested thousands of dollars into costly equipment, but that wasn't the case since I've mainly made use of inexpensive and mid-range cameras over my career to date. Part of this was financial in nature, but part of it was also the fact that art and good images are not made by expensive equipment only. Rather, it is the photographer who knows how to use their camera correctly, how to compose and expose images, and how to anticipate good subjects and execute capturing them competently that gets the memorable shots.Since I have established that I am really not much of a gear-head, and that I used very modest cameras properly combined with knowledge to get pretty good to outright amazing results, I will state that the Panasonic Lumix FZ200 is the best and most versatile camera that I have yet owned, in both film and digital formats. I am thoroughly impressed with the range of options that this camera offers, things that I simply lived without before. One example is the "burst mode" settings, which range from 2.5 FPS all the way up to 60 FPS, including a night setting that allows for up to 5 flash photos in quick succession for moving nocturnal subjects. I have never before had such a feature on a camera and am finding all sorts of creative uses for these options. This may not sound revelatory to photographers who have used burst modes before, but if you are new to the concept, I believe that you will find that a whole world of previously-missed subjects will open up for you. Especially if you want to capture fast-moving subjects such as birds or butterflies, the quick processing speeds and fast zoom lens with a wide aperture to gather extra light even at full 24x extension in low light will impress you. I could use my old camera (the one that was replaced by the Lumix FZ200) to catch quick, skittish subjects, but a great proportion of the photos were blurry, and the slower SD card processing speeds made for lots of missed opportunities while I was waiting for the card to write and save images. It seems so obvious to me now, but I should perhaps have upgraded a couple of years sooner to something higher-end like the FZ200 or a comparable camera. The burst mode button is located right up top of the camera's body by the shutter release button, where it can be easily switched on or off depending upon the need. Convenient! In researching what to purchase as a replacement for my old camera (from 2006 - digital technology has improved vastly in only 7 or 8 years) I gave serious consideration to about 6 different cameras from 4 or 5 manufacturers before the Lumix came onto my radar screen. Once it did, however, it rapidly started to outpace the others based upon overwhelmingly positive reviews from both professionals and serious amateurs alike. The so-called "negatives" on this camera are trivial, and in fact after using it for nearly a month under various conditions I can honestly state that I have nothing to complain about and a lot to rave about. I find the image quality superior due to the fast, high-grade Leica lens, and the ease of adjusting the controls, f-stops, apertures, focal lengths, and ISO light sensitivities is a huge plus when compared to the relative difficulty I had with the previous camera in doing so. The camera is amazingly light-sensitive and has a truly magnificent sensor that can find even the dimmest subjects, focus correctly on them, and do so quickly all while yielding usable images with only a few lumens of light. You may not get a poster-size reprint out of those pictures at 6400 ISO, but you will get something usable and identifiable. My old camera would show nothing but blackness. This is such a remarkable upgrade that I am struck by how much of an improvement it is over what I was accustomed to. The online reviews I read about this aspect of the FZ200 were accurate in this regard, and I tested out the low-light limits on July 4th with the intention to going to the point of failure and blackness in the screen. I didn't quite get there - the camera is that good at making use of minimal available light. It may finally fail to take an image in an unlit cave underground. ;-)Navigating the complex LCD menu takes a bit of getting used to, but that's par for the course with any new piece of electronic equipment that has the array of capabilities that this one has. I am sure that the FZ200 has features and settings that I have not yet discovered or mastered, but as I do I expect that my photo skills will take another leap forward.Bottom line: For the price, this is one of the best cameras you can get, with fast speeds and great image quality in difficult situations. I could not be more pleased, and the hundreds of people who follow me on Facebook where I highlight my photos have been universally impressed thus far. Several of them have indicated their desire to make their next camera a Lumix FZ200 as well, and I would heartily recommend that to them. And to anyone.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

The folks at Panasonic have done it right -- again. This may not be the best camera in the world for professionals, but for amateurs who want help in taking good pictures, and even for enthusiasts who know what they're doing and want great images, this works just fine.

Generally, it feels good in the hand, and the controls are either immediately intuitive or quick to learn. And the viewfinder is great. That was one of my "must have" criteria: a viewfinder, period. The screen is nice, but I've got to have the viewfinder.

The one thing I don't like, so far, is the location of the lens-mounted auto-focus button. It works great, if you want to target an auto-focus spot, but I quite frequently tap the button when I'm just holding the camera while framing a shot. That may be my only complaint so far.

I've taken pictures and video during the day and at night. The daytime shots were in bright sunshine and in rain; the nighttime shots and video at a night baseball game -- in good weather, foggy weather, and misty then rainy weather! Panasonic's Intelligent Assistant and IA+ are simply wonderful. And the burst modes are awesome.

It's amazing when the camera tells you there's strong backlighting, and it's going to take several images then compile them into one. And then you have the chance to do some minor immediate editing -- or, come back later. That's pretty impressive to me!

I've not printed images yet, but I've uploaded them and they look great on several different monitors.

And, like others here and elsewhere have said, do go to YouTube and find the series of videos by Graham Houghton. He's patient, thorough, and walks you through using the camera in a way that's easy to understand and immediately practical.

Also: yes, the zoom is spectacular. I can read the fine print on a can of aerosol spray from fifteen feet away, in moderate indoor lighting. And I've taken pictures through three rooms in a home -- from the back of the house to glass bottles sitting in the front window, with a house full of people (so, lots of shadows), and things were crystal clear.

Bottom line: the FZ200 is as advertised. The zoom is great, the lens allows a lot of light in, and video seems very good, it's intuitive, and it's easy to use. The price is getting cloes to low-end DSLRs, but if you don't want to mess with changing lenses, you won't go wrong with this camera.
