I will be the first to admit that I don't want to bother to take the time to set shutter speed, f-stop, ISO, etc when I am taking pictures, but I still want to end up with quality images. I have been the route with several CDCs and even one DSLR I have finally found my perfect camera in the Panasonic Lumix FZ200. Let me add that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, so weight, flexibility and ease of managing controls is a huge factor for me - but I also want pictures that turn out very nicely. I can handle this camera with one hand easily.
Right out of the box, just figuring out how to use the camera, the resulting pictures are extremely impressive. The clarity and depth of field are outstanding. The Intelligent Zoom is unbelievable - it's like having a spy camera now! I am a novice photographer, but I know quality pictures when I download them. Obtaining the desired results with this camera is done with ease. You have to try very hard to get a bad shot. I can easily say the initial results were stunning.
The LCD is easy to view and very detailed. I am at the age where everything up close is a blur, but the LCD screen is perfectly sized. Having the option to switch to the viewfinder is very nice to have especially when zooming.
The icons on the display are easy to understand, managing the controls is pretty intuitive. And the camera takes over so much it is hardly ever necessary to adjust any settings. It truly is 'intelligent'.
I have only used the video feature once so far, but I very much like the one-button feature for recording video. Very convenient.
I am still figuring out all of the camera's features but I have yet to find something that I don't like about it. Habitually I have stuck to another highly regarded well-known brand of cameras, and I and very glad that I took the plunge and kicked the brand habit.

I am amazed by this new camera however I almost returned it because the manual was so poor. I am new to this type of camera and it was the advanced features that I was most interested in understanding. The manual was useless - worse than useless. The small booklet which accompanies the camera basically instructed me on how to attach the strap and lens cover. Not much more ! The PDF file on the enclosed CD was vague and not helpful in understanding WHY or WHEN a particular action was appropriate. I reverted to You Tube and found a very knowledgeable Englishman -- Graham Houghton - has presented 12 or 13 short videos on how to get the most from my camera. Thank God for You Tube. Mr. Houghton calls his tutorial series "The Missing Manual". So at least I know I'm not the only one who has been frustrated by this poor excuse for a teaching manual. Happily - if one is able to learn how to use it, ...... the camera is great !!!!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This is a great camera for the avid digital photographer that does just about everything. The Lens, (designed by Leica), is a great zoom at 2.8. This is a upper/middle line camera that in my opinion beats the Nikon's or Canon's and Sony's in its price range. No, it will not beet my Rolleiflex 8000I or Leica MOT, but that's film and the price is crazy. It takes a little practice to get the color balance good with close up shots and low light, but all these digitals take time to learn. I have used this camera for about 6 months and have not had any issues at all. Its plastic so don't drop it, but the body and lens are quite solid. A very nice camera, and again the zoom lens can't be beat. If you have more money look at the Sony A7's.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

Not for technical perfection fanatics but if you can be satisfied with merely good to very good quality images suitable for prints up to 13"x19" this camera lets you capture the details of the world with unprecedented ease. It's all about the lens, weight and the ergonomics. The killer lens (24X at constant F2.8)combined with excellent OIS and fast AF brings the visual world within easy reach. Light and compact, it's great for travel and allows you to remain relatively inconspicuous as you shoot, even as you zoom out to the max.

The EVF (indispensable for outdoor shooting in bright light) is adequate and virtually grainless. There is now the FZ300 out which has a bigger and better EVF and a WiFi connection (which FZ200 lacks). It also allegedly has marginally better image quality though that's debatable. However, it also weighs more than FZ200 and costs a lot more. For my use (mostly art photography) FZ200 is a better value.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This one is a replacement for one I sold in a weak moment. The first was made in Japan, and the new one was made in China. If anything, this one is slightly better. I have owned quite a few "bridge" style superzooms, and except for my FZ1000, this is the best. True, it has a small sensor; but that only becomes a handicap at higher ISO settings, and because of the constant f/2.8 aperture of the lens, I seldom need to use higher ISO. Most other superzooms get very small apertures at longer focal lengths, resulting in high ISO, or slow shutter speeds. The FZ200 has a 2-2.5 stop advantage in aperture, so instead of shooting at ISO 200 with the FZ200 you're at ISO 800-1120 with competing models.
In other respects the camera is well featured with a fully articulated LCD and a high resolution viewfinder. AF is fast enough to shoot ice hockey at the college level.
The FZ200 is good sized; but well below the FZ1000 in size and weight, and in my opinion, a better choice for travel.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I got tired of carrying 28 pounds of camera gear ($8,000 to $10,000 worth) and sold it all for this. This is a great camera as long as you're not going to make posters. I love going to concerts and this is my weapon of choice. Most venues will not allow a camera with a detachable lens so I'm good there. It works great in low light and the f2.8 25-600mm zoom comes in handy when you can't get those front row seats. Also the fact that camera has manual settings is a big plus, that away I can adjust the settings to my liking instead of using the auto modes. The multi controller needs a button to disable it when not needed because it is to easy to accidently bring up the menu while your trying to take pictures. It is lacking a little for fast action photography and panning shots. After shooting drag racing with a DSLR you can tell its not the same. Over all its a great camera and I would highly recommend it.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I've used a lot of cameras over the years — none has given such pleasure in the use of it, primarily for travel. Use is straightforward and intuitive. Ergonomics are great. I love touches like the swiveling rear screen and high quality viewfinder. One of the greatest features is that f2/8 24-600mm equivalent Leica lens. It IS a jewel. Two other features important to me are the hot shoe for additional flash, and the ability to record in RAW, as well as JPEG. If I have one nit to pick, it's sensor-size and resolution. I crave more of both. The FZ1000 is a good move up in that arena, but it means giving up 200mm of telephoto reach. I would love to see Panasonic develop a version of this camera with a 24 mb, APS-C size sensor!

I am impressed by the number of functions on this camera, that it shoots RAW, jpeg and the range of the lens, and it is fast. Really, it packs a very large punch for a small, easy-to-carry-around camera. So far, the pictures are turning out very well. It will take me a while to learn how to use it to the best of its abilities.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I was initially looking to purchase a Sony, Canon or Nikon, but the Panasonic FZ200 seemed to be the choice of professionals in the category of super-zoom, bridge cameras.

While the Nikon P900 has a focal range of 2000mm, I have found that the FZ200 is more zoom than I need, and it maintains a constant f2.8 aperture throughout its 600mm range. If you have shaky hands you'll definitely need a tripod.

Three features in particular make this camera an upgrade over my Sony pocket camera -- auto-focus, focal length and battery life.

The video capability of the FZ200 is a bonus, and I've enjoyed taking movies in slow motion. Macro enthusiasts will be pleased with the camera's depth of field performance.

With the release of the FZ300 you can buy the FZ200 at a discounted price. If you don't need Wi-Fi, or a touchscreen, save your money and buy the older model.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This is the perfect everyday camera and actually my 2nd one. When the price dropped under $ I couldn't resist getting a backup. It's lightweight, takes excellent photos, and has most of the bells, horns, and whistles of a DSLR. The user manual isn't the best but I found some you tube videos by Graham Houghton to be extremely helpful. The FZ1000 is next on my wish list. Panasonic is tops in the Bridge camera division and B&H is the best in the purchasing arena. I travel the country via an RV and take a variety of photographs; landscape, wildlife, macro, architecture, street. I can flip from one scenario to another in seconds - no need for a lens change. Remember the best camera to own, is the one that's with you. I never leave home without it.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I have been extremely satisfied with this camera in every way, so much so that I bought it a second time when my first one was stolen! The f2.8 lens is sharp across all uses, and the camera offers a great many opportunities for user control. At the same time, the auto settings generally work very well.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

This will be the second DMC-FZ200 that I have purchased, following right on the heals of the first. To say that it is a remarkable camera for the price doesn't really do it justice. It would be a remarkable value at an even greater price.I will be proud to use this camera side-by-side with my Canon 5D MK II at events as I know the TTL, in conjunction with an off-camera Panasonic flash will work perfectly. While I wish the RAW software were as good as Canon's DPP, the fact that it produces RAW images at all gives me the confidence that I can get the most out of any image. Finally, I was surprised by the video capabilities. I shoot 3D printing for a blog and being able to shoot at 120fps or 240fps comes in very handy. From now on, when a friend asks for advice regarding and SLR, I will say, "If you aren't willing to spend $[$]+ just for 2.8 glass to go on an SLR, I'd skip the SLR and buy the FZ200."Finally, be sure to look for Graham Houghton's excellent (and free) ebook on the DMC-FZ200.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera:

I normally shoot with a Canon 5D MK II, with "L" lenses. But, I also need a lighter weight camera for a wide variety of tasks where a full-frame is overkill.

I first tried the Nikon L840 and was VERY disappointed by the slow overly hunting focus. I then turned to the Panasonic FZ200 for less than $100 more. The difference is well worth the little extra cost! That little bit of difference gives you a lot more control and wider focus options.... including manual.

While it's no Canon Full-Frame camera, when judged purely on the relative price/performance ratios, it is probably even a better value! And, certainly a FAR better value than the Nikon L480.

This is a very, very nice camera for the money. And, the high-speed video options are icing on the cake.

While this would not be my primary choice for low-light events, I do plan to experiment with using it as backup for an upcoming event just to see how it fairs. I expect some noise at ISO 800 and above. But, if it performs as expected, that will not be a huge problem.

This camera is a significant step up from what I was working with before. The zoom ability is amazing and I love the multiple image settings. With this camera, there's loads of potential with capturing images, playing with settings, and it's a great introduction to DSLR, without the hefty price tag. Not only would I recommend this specific camera, but I would also recommend Lumix in general.
