I've owned the LX5 and now the LX7. Don't give this camera a second thought. The Leica lens is crisp clear and the images this baby produces are second to none. The camera is small and very light, easy to take anywhere without feeling like you're lugging around a brick. I am an artist and a professional photographer and I find myself using this camera on a daily basis for absolutely everything apart from actual client work or my own artwork. Shoot in RAW and learn to explore the full potential of this tiny camera. You will not regret this purchase, I guarantee it.

One detail to remember is that it is not perfect in low light. Anything about 400 ISO will produce color noise that you might not be comfortable with but it is easily reduced when you shoot in RAW. Learn to use your equipment and know its limits and you will find yourself producing beautiful work.

I thought I'd upgrade from my LX5, but it wasn't worth the change. I have returned the LX7. In low light, there's too much chromo-luminance noise, the photos look "blotchy". The shutter lag is quite long, as well. The LX7 is not improved from the last model.I didn't think the extra f-stop on the LX7 made any difference, since the chip still had the same limitations as my LX5. Which is too much low light noise, and blotchy grain. In addition, Panasonic deicided to change the shoe-mounted digital viewfinder, from their last model. So everyone who paid a couple of [$] for that device. for their LX5, discovered it didn't work on the LX7. (thanks Panasonic, but to me, it would be like changing lens mounts, after you've sold me a bunch of lenses)There's no extension tube, and 18mm lens option, on the new model, something quite usefull on the LX5, so the new camera actually gave me less of an option than I had with their last model. I've had a long run with Lumix cameras, it's time for a change. I returned the LX7. I now use the Sony Cybershot RX100, for high quality "small" camera situations.

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

I have to take a lot of pictures inside factories that are not well lit. This camera does a great job with it. I like the wide angle also. It takes incredible macro shots. If you tripod it and use the timer to take the picture you can get really excellent results.

It is an older model, but does exactly what I want and was the perfect replacement for my previous Lumix.

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

I'm a casual photographer who mostly uses my cameras on vacations, though I do give them a workout on those trips and know a bit about photography. I purchased this camera as a smaller alternative to my Panasonic Lumix FZ35 (which I absolutely love but is rather clunky to lug around sometimes) for my recent vacation.

I'm really pleased with this camera's performance. It allows you to manipulate photos yourself but also offers a lot of settings that do the work for you. One of my concerns was its performance on nighttime scenery/illuminations and it definitely delivered. It also handled indoor shots well that my FZ35 often has trouble with (it makes the photos overly yellow/red). I was also pleased with its ability to take action shots, though nothing I shot was moving THAT quickly. The controls are easy to manipulate and the camera is light and small enough to carry around all day when you're not constantly taking photos.

Three complaints. One, the zoom moves rather slowly. It's not debilitating, but it is noticeable. Two, you can't review photos without taking the lens cap off. This may seem small, but when I'm sitting somewhere and just want to take a look at photos I took throughout the day, it's annoying to have the camera tell you to take the lens cap off before you can see anything. Third, and this is random, my sunglasses reacted with the view screen in such a way that when I held the camera vertically, I couldn't see the screen. Horizontally was fine, but I'd have to push my sunglasses down on my nose when I took vertical photos.

Overall, a great camera that I look forward to taking on future vacations.

I'm new to the whole DSLR world, and got this camera simply because of the reviews and the size (not wanting to take up a lot of room in my backpack).

It's a great camera, easy to use. I also bought a book to help with all the features, as the instruction manual isn't that great.

Overall, fantastic camera and I'm very happy with it!

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

I bought this camera for a trip to Europe I am taking soon after having my DSLR stolen last time I was in Europe. I've had it for about it a week and its pretty amazing a) the quality of the pictures, especially in low light b) the DSLR quality manual abilities. The aperture ring on the lens feels great and I really like the auditory clicking that lets you know if you've changed the aperture. really my only complaint is the lack of the viewfinder, but for the price you can't beat this camera.

Needed a camera that is fast to operate (function like Iso, Aperature, Shutter speed)
Specially like the Aperature ring reminds me of classic camera days.
      Great for dim light conditions.
And best of all is the LICA lens.....

I like this camera since it has all the manual controls and the image quality is good. I bought it as a back up camera when I don't want to carry my DSLR. This camera is always in my car or in my back pack. Image quality is good and I especially like the macro capabilities. Don't expect DSLR quality (I have a Nikon D750) but fromn the price point it's total value for money.

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

I have only been using the camera for about one week. So far it is everything I expected. The controls are obvious and useful. The photos I have taken so far look great and the LCD screen in the back is very nice. And all of the available manual controls are great as is the fast lens. So far I am very happy with this camera.

      A camera with substance

      By Mr Plod

      from Spokane, Washington

      About Me Photo Enthusiast

      Verified Buyer

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

I bought this camera along with the optional electronic viewfinder as I find a good viewfinder essential for outdoor photography. I really do not like being one of the countless horde waving around their devices 12 inches in front of their faces.
The camera has a nice heft to it and is clearly a step above the basic Lumix point-and-shoots in both materials and build quality. However, I will never use all the camera's features. I can see that many could be useful, but I will have to be satisfied with mastering a few of the essentials and leaving it at that.
Having an actual lens cap requires an extra step before shooting, and I think I might prefer the built-in covers that are on so many small cameras. I imagine I will adjust to the cap dangling from its string. Of course, with the EVF, the camera is quite bulky and then only pocketable in a large coat pocket. Without it, it is only slightly larger (but quite heavier) than the Lumix long-zoom point-and-shoot cameras.
I bought the camera for three reasons: the slightly larger sensor, the faster lens, and the available EVF.

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

I won't go through all the good features for the LX7 because most other reviews have said enough already. But, for the current sale price from B&H, which is more than half LESS than the original listed price, it is a STEAL for this high-end COMPACT CAMERA! It would cost a lot more just to get a f1.4/24mm super-wide Leica-branded zoom lens alone...not to mention to have the complete camera!

And, there is no other compact camera in the current market that can match the lens specs for this one even this is an older model....to me, camera is NOT a fashion statement and, it does not have to be always the newest model.

I really like this camera, after having used about 10 point-n-shoot in the past. I usually use dslr. This is for traveling and light activities. I particularly like the f1.4 – 2.3 lens, which can take photos in almost any circumstances. The picture quality is superb. The only thing I have difficulty with is the rear dial due to my dry skin. The real dial is hard to turn due to slippage of my finger on it. Thus, I need to push harder in order to rotate the dial (in shutter priority mode, for example), in so doing I activated the exposure compensation. It is due to my dry skin, not a design flaw.

Comments about Lumix DMC-LX7 Digital Camera (Black):

Let me say this again: Sales savings on this camera bought the DMW-LVF2 viewfinder! This LX7 is a legend and a swan song for high capability small sensor fixed lens cameras. I'll use this to further my fun and education. With my FZ200 and LF1 I've explored macro, nature, sports, action, portraiture, studio, street, astro, landscape and studio photography. Always composition and subject: What do you want to convey? How will you do it? Video and low light too! One lens alone could cost more than $1200 spent over the thirty months I've been at it. I get asked to do assignments often. Now others are interested in low light and other types of photography, even asking me to help them to find and buy these cameras, (small sensor, fixed lens, high quality output, manual controls.) They won't get all that you can see, yet can show you what you've never seen before. These cameras are disappearing and turning up on e-bay for parts. Get 'em while you can. Well, among the other subjects, I'm off to study lighting. Have fun out there.
