I purchased the first version of this lens from B&H in January. While it was still under the return period the version ii was announced.I returned the original and waited "patiently" for the ii.It took a while but when it was finally announced I think that I was probably one of the first to place an order.I did order it early in the morning on the announced sale day. There was absolutely nothing that I could find wrong with the original but the addition of a motor will come in handy for my back-up D40.I usually take my pictures at night and this lens performs beyond my expectations I'll attach a couple of pics that I have taken with this lens. Bear in mind that I am an amature photographer so the image quality would probably be better in more capable hands

I purchased the newer Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 because I was looking for an DX alternative to my Nikkor AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8 for such occasions where I want to travel lighter or need to attach a filter. It is possible that I expected too much because of the mostly positive reviews I read, and/or that I was too critical in my evaluation of this lens because it is not a Nikon product. Either way, after two exchanges I am still not entirely happy with my third sample but I decided to keep it because it works well for me for landscape and travel photography, which is what I use it for. Also, I know what I've got but don't know what I'll get if I exchange it a third time because every new sample I have had was different from the previous one except for the fact that they all were sharpest at f/5.6-f/9.0 at any focal length.

The first sample was what I would describe as the most "balanced" of the three in terms of resolution. Center sharpness was usable at f/2.8. Border sharpness was not as good as center sharpness at all focal lengths, and very disappointing at 11 mm, especially at f/2.8. The resolution was generally best at f/4 - f/8, particularly at 16 mm. The second sample lacked center sharpness at all apertures and focal lengths, which led me to believe there may have been a focusing problem. My third sample is not usable wide open at any focal length. However, resolution increases remarkably at 4.0, and from f/5.6 - f/11 the lens displays very good to excellent sharpness across the frame at all focal lengths. I am also very pleased with the color rendition.

Even though I am quite satisfied with my lens when I use it in the f/5.6 to f/11 aperture range, I can only give it a 3-star rating because of its underperformance at f/2.8 and - for this product in general - the sample variations.

I analyzed all the possible reviews before buying it and after I received it, I have only good words about it.

The focus selections method is different comparing to Nikon but is not better or worst. It is just different and it does the job well.

I have been using it for interior photos where my 18-140 does not go quite wide enough. Also great for special effects shots where the DOF is great. You do have to be very careful to shoot with the distortion in mind so it can be corrected.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon Mount:

As a cheaper alternative to the hugely expensive Nikon, this lens is awesome. Especially for city photography, and low to mid light situations. The auto focus mechanism does sound a little rough, but considering it focuses to 'infinite' for anything further away than about 15feet (which is most things you would point this lens at), its not an issue. This is by far my favourite lens in my kit, and I would buy another without hesitation.

I was nervous about purchasing this lens; I read some negative reviews about the build, they quality is great for the price but he auto focus manual switch sticks a tad but nothing to worry about. The filter threads are plastic however it is a good quality plastic it's tough. The focus is quick but not the fastest the focus ring is a quick shift clutch just buy pulling back the ring, this comes in handy instead of fumbling for a small switch. This lens produces great images at F2.8 and through to its max F22 and has a great field of view being a wide angle lens. The Tokina SD 11-16 f2.8 (IF)DXII has meet my landscape- cityscape demands and I use it up close some times as a portrait lens for fun. GREAT BUILD GREAT IMAGE QUALITY GREAT PRICE.

I bought this lens primarily for landscapes and internal shots at museums where space is limited. I haven't used it much yet, but so far the very first impression is how sharp the images are, which are far sharper than the kit lens that came with my Nikon D5200. If you need to use a flash, you won't be able to use the flip up flash on most DSLR's as the large lens diameter will cast a shadow, but with a shoe mounted flash it works perfectly. Lens flare while shooting into the sun is not nearly as bad as I thought, and in some cases will add something to the photo. So far I am very satisfied with this lens, especially when I compare the cost difference between Tokina and Nikon. The auto focus is equally quiet, and as fast as the Nikon lenses, and the weight is hardly noticeable. The lens diameter is large, so if you plan to get a separate lens case, ask someone at B&H for advice on which one will contain the lens with the lens hood.

I agonized over the best wide angle lens for a DX format and watched the market for new options but I came back to this lens. I couldn't be happier with the lens or B&H.

I use this lens for taking wide angle shot at the shore and in the mountains. New England has so much potential for wide angle shots. Its field of vision is great. It is extremely well made and the price could not be beat. It is heavier than I expected but it is NOT a burden to haul around. This shot s are always clear and crisp.

I spent a lot of time reading reviews on this lens and after much thought I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it. It is very wide compared to anything else in my collection and bring a whole new level of photography for me to play with going forward. I am very happy with the purchase. BHPhoto experience was outstanding.

I was looking for a wide angle lense for landscape shooting and noticed that a fellow photographer was using this lens with really excellent results. I sprung for it and my first photo was of my narrow living room. It got everything. Amazing. I also took it out locally for a couple of sunsets, and the results were very nice. Love the fact that you can go all the way down to f2.8 on the aperature, which makes it really good in low light. So far, the only thing that I don't like about it is the hood, which is difficult to attach and remove.
