I purchased the first version of this lens from B&H in January. While it was still under the return period the version ii was announced.I returned the original and waited "patiently" for the ii.It took a while but when it was finally announced I think that I was probably one of the first to place an order.I did order it early in the morning on the announced sale day. There was absolutely nothing that I could find wrong with the original but the addition of a motor will come in handy for my back-up D40.I usually take my pictures at night and this lens performs beyond my expectations I'll attach a couple of pics that I have taken with this lens. Bear in mind that I am an amature photographer so the image quality would probably be better in more capable hands

I purchased the newer Tokina 11-16 mm f/2.8 because I was looking for an DX alternative to my Nikkor AF-S 14-24 mm f/2.8 for such occasions where I want to travel lighter or need to attach a filter. It is possible that I expected too much because of the mostly positive reviews I read, and/or that I was too critical in my evaluation of this lens because it is not a Nikon product. Either way, after two exchanges I am still not entirely happy with my third sample but I decided to keep it because it works well for me for landscape and travel photography, which is what I use it for. Also, I know what I've got but don't know what I'll get if I exchange it a third time because every new sample I have had was different from the previous one except for the fact that they all were sharpest at f/5.6-f/9.0 at any focal length.

The first sample was what I would describe as the most "balanced" of the three in terms of resolution. Center sharpness was usable at f/2.8. Border sharpness was not as good as center sharpness at all focal lengths, and very disappointing at 11 mm, especially at f/2.8. The resolution was generally best at f/4 - f/8, particularly at 16 mm. The second sample lacked center sharpness at all apertures and focal lengths, which led me to believe there may have been a focusing problem. My third sample is not usable wide open at any focal length. However, resolution increases remarkably at 4.0, and from f/5.6 - f/11 the lens displays very good to excellent sharpness across the frame at all focal lengths. I am also very pleased with the color rendition.

Even though I am quite satisfied with my lens when I use it in the f/5.6 to f/11 aperture range, I can only give it a 3-star rating because of its underperformance at f/2.8 and - for this product in general - the sample variations.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon Mount:

I've been using this lens for interior shots as well as landscape photos. The lens is crisp and focuses quickly in low light conditions, without 'hunting'.

I've been using my Nixon 18-200mm VRII as an all around lens. It is a great lens as well. So you might think that the extra 7mm is not that significant, but I find I have much more control over the depth of field with the f2.8 on the Tokina.
The lens is heavier than I expected, but clearly that contributes to its solid performance.

I use this lens indoors for tight spaces and low light photos. The results are very good - able to read newsprint in background papers. Best for sharpness at and above f 5.6. Very nice wide angle scenic landscape images. Images are a bit soft in the corners. There is some flare with the sun in the photo sometimes, and fringing at the edges as are well known so plan you shots accordingly. A solidly built lens that does what I need at a good price.

After much research for a wide angle to accompany my Nikon d5500, I opted for this Tokina 11-16mm. This lens is smooth and solid. Not "prime" sharp but it does a great job with landscapes, buildings and very large groups of people. I could not justify paying for the Nikon equivalent...This lens is a great value for the price.

I was looking for an ultra wide lens (that wasn't a fish eye) for my Nikon 7100. I read the online reviews for this lens and rented it several times before buying it. I found the images I took with this lens to be very sharp. I didn't have any problems with chromatic aberration or vignetting. There is significant lens flair, but I've only had that problem when shooting directly into the sun.

This is my first lens that isn't one of the complete plastics you get with your starting kits. It feels very well made, everything slides smoothly and feels very solid in the hand. Pictures are nice and sharp and it's at a very affordable price compared to some of the other pro lenses. Definitely recommend.

This lens has a fantastic build quality and great photo quality. The f/2.8 aperture is an amazing feature of this lens and the 11-16mm range covers most landscape photography needs. The only con to this lens is that there is some vignetting at the widest angle if there are any filters attached, but this is to be expected at such a wide angle. Overall, amazing lens that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a wide angle lens.

Solid feel, heavier than kit lens. Easy shift to manual focus. I've been using mine for night photography on Nikon D5500. Picks up fine detail and is super sharp. Clear, non-distorted points of light edge to edge. Best wide angle out there, especially as it is faster than anything near its price. I am very happy with the images I've shot so far and would definitely recommend this lens.

Comments about Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens for Nikon Mount:

I own a D7000 and have stayed with it because it serves my purposes providing great quality for family pictures and the occasional 16" x 24" or 20" x 30" print. I would say that I've taken the majority of my photos with the 35mm f/1.8 DX lens and some with the 55-200 kit lens (bought as a refurbished item). Lacking a small light wide option I experimented with both the Rokinon and Nikon fisheye lenses and the 18-55mm Kit lens as well as the Voigtlander 20mm prime. None has been wholly satisfying as an adjunct walk-about lens. When this lens went on sale I thought I'd take the plunge. I think the relatively constrained zoom range is an asset and like my prime forces me to walk around and experiment with perspective. So far I'm very happy with my choice.

This is my first wide angle. I rented the Nikon 10-24 over the summer and after reading reviews decided I liked the idea of a wide angle and this seemed the best fit my my DX sensor. It's a nice solid build and image quality has been very good so far. It is still taking getting used to the auto focus switch being a pull back ring. All in all I am enjoying the lens and look forward to using it more. I am giving four stars because I haven't owned it long enough to go higher or lower in my opinion.

Bought this lense for my wife just for fun and she is really enjoying it. She's a casual photographer but the perspective that this lense captures is quite different than what shes used to. The sense is well made. She likes the manual focus option. Price was very reasonable.

First impressions of this lens....SOLID. It does not feel cheap at all. I have taken a few shots with it and so far, it has met or exceeded my expectations. Great wide angle. A lot of complaints about the "focus noise"...It's no where near as loud as I anticipated. Can't wait to make full use of this lens. Great value!
