Comments about ikan VH8 8" Camera Monitor with Panasonic D54 Battery Plate:

Do I like these monitors? This is my fourth. I built a piece of metal to attach a pair to a monfrotto articulating arm. Photos are below showing the bracket mounted to a light stand with off the shelf studio gear. If you don't have access to a milling machine as I do, you could fabricate the rig with cold shoe rails.
I like the pass through HDMI. I put one monitor on the camera for the operator, another at the production station. The HDMI cable delivers the audio the the monitor. I have a mini switch and with a single headset can monitor the audio on each camera. It is a great way to run a camera remote as I did this past weekend with a Bescor head and Varizoom controls on the camera.
The pass over buttons tell you what they do, the panel at the side shows the false color mapping when false color is being used for exposure.
For the money, this is a great monitor, just the right size.

Comments about ikan VH8 8" Camera Monitor with Panasonic D54 Battery Plate:

I cannot claim to have extensive experience with this type of product so I cannot compare this to others in the category. For my use, low budget golf interview and instruction video, this is a affordable, easy to use and a great addition to my studio. The peaking and false color screens make focus and exposure ease. The side panel is used for reminders. Having the false color code show up when using it for exposure is priceless.
The touch buttons indicate their function on the screen when you pass your finger over them. You might not think this is of much value until you try to find the right button in the dark with old eyes.
We have arranged several mounts that fit the wide range of our use. I appreciate the pass through HDMI for when we want the signal both for the camera operator and the production direction monitors. These are on all the cameras now and are under consideration for the bank of monitors at the production direction desk. Everything we use must go on the road 80% of the time. These are an incredible value.

I use this hooked up to a camera on an Aviator Travel Jib. It's light weight which you need for the jib, The image quality is very good, I can focus with it, and it lets me frame and zoom with the camera....only negative is the battery plate is a bit hard to change batts...

Comments about ikan VH8 8" Camera Monitor with Panasonic D54 Battery Plate:

This product, as well as the VH7 have HDMI and composite inputs, but only HDMI work. I did extensive testing through Ikan's tech support and they couldn't find the reason, but all point to the display itself. So if your planning to use the HDMI input, give it a shot, but if your in need of the composite input, stay away from any Ikan products.
