...and I have owned plenty. Olympus E series, Pentax K-5 (which I loved), Nikon D600 and also the Canon 60D. I am no professional, but you cannot catch me dead without my camera(s). I am just a decently good amateur.

Now when I say "best", I take into consideration:

1) Value for Money
2) Convenience/Ease of Use
3) Image Quality
4) Camera and Lens Performance
5) Future potential for growth

In my opinion the Canon 6D with the 24-105 Kit is an absolute steal for what it costs. Reviewers have been denigrating Canon for leaving out so-called important features such as a built-in flash or 1/8000 shutter speed or gazillion auto-focus points. I have now taken the Canon 6D kit on three vacations and a wedding... and clicked 1000's of photos. I have not once missed any of these features and the results are great.

The 24-105 punches way above its weight and clicks sharp contrasty pictures... and the focal length and macro capability are amazing. It has become my favorite lens. And if you are doubting the DoF on F/4 - remember, this is full frame territory. Even F/5.6 gives decent separation... and F/4 is equivalent to F/2 on the 4/3rd.

Now onto the camera itself. The Canon 6D produces crisp images with the best dynamic range I have seen in a Canon camera. The metering is spot on, but even if it does get it wrong, the raw files have enough latitude for recovering a lot of the stuff. You have to see it to believe it.

And the high ISO performance... instead of using adjectives let me just say that now I can finally leave it at auto and forget about it. I have clicked photos with ISO6400 and not even seen a hint of noise or degradation of image quality. Suddenly clicking a late evening shot with F/4, shutter speed of 1/300 doesn't give me visions of a noise reduction nightmare.

Auto-focusing with the L lens is near instantaneous. I have also used the 6D with the legendary rented Canon L EF 24-70 F/2.8 USM II... and the focusing is really instantaneous. I have focused in near darkness using the center point. So 9 focusing points are enough for 98% of cases (for me). I don't generally click action shots so I don't miss Servo/Continuous focusing too much... but I am assuming if that is a priority, you are better of choosing a higher spec camera anyway.

Now for the final section in my loosely-strung together review...Canon 6D vs. Nikon D600. I have owned both... but returned the Nikon.

Practically from an image quality perspective both are great. Nikon has the edge in auto focus (on paper only, I never felt it) and Canon has a visible advantage with high performance ISO. Both have a great collection of lenses to suit every budget. So it boils down to "X" factors... the Canon just "feels" better. I just got used to using the Canon 6D ... and using it is a joy. Canon has poured in decades of experience into this camera and it shows. And for the me the clinching factor was the kit lens. The 24-105 IS L is leagues ahead of the 24-85 VR...

I get the feeling that the Canon 6D will be my mainstay camera for a long long time.

It feels very robust compared to my other canon cameras. The lock on the mode dial, is a nice feature. The L-lens seems to be made for long professional use, compared to my old 17-55 mm lens etc. I have only taken few pictures so fare and the camera is very good at low light. However I have some pictures with pixel issues in the blue sky which are very notisable. My other câmeras like 600D and 450D do not have these pixel issues in the blue sky.

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

I use it exclusively for stills. Weddings, parties, scenery, etc.

    What's great:

Low light performance. Even with the f/4 lens, I can manage to get a good shot (Thank you image stablization!) as long as my subject holds still, too.

The camera has very user friendly ergonomics, once you know how to use it.

The shutter, in quiet mode, is as quiet as my Leica M3.

The wide zoom range of the 24-105 means I almost never have to change lenses. It covers almost all situations. While a few pixel pickers rail aganist it's sharpness and vignetting, in my photos it's never a problem.

The camera shuts itself off a minute after it's used. This really saves the battery. A slight touch to the shutter button reactviates it.

With a 64GB memory card, you get ~2400 raw shots on a "roll"

    What could be improved.

The camera is heavy. My old T2i, with its 18-55mm lens is less than half of the 6D's weight. When you're carrying it around all day, this is a consideraton.

Autofocus can be touchy and slow, especially in low light or low contrast situations. The old Leica wins hands down here. I often find myself switching to manual focus.

There are times when the flash operates, but the shutter stays open for, say 1/4 second, bluring the picture.

There are many modes of operation on this camera, some of them quite complex. You need to practice a bit to achieve proficiency. Of course, this is true for *any* camera. The manual is lengthy, and parts of it have a very high "fog factor". The on line videos are quite helpful.

Canon's very proprietary about it's software, and their software isn't very good. It's difficult to use and fairly slow. It took 6 hours to convert 460 raw images into TIFF images, for instance, on my Dell laptop.

Canon does NOT support Linux. :-(

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

I'm a senior in a photography program at a Midwestern university. I bought this as my first full-frame DSLR after renting the Canon 5D series cameras from my university for three years. I looked at buying a 5D MKIII but for a poor college student, the price wasn't doing it for me. The 6D was within my budget, even with an L series lens. I haven't gotten to shoot any school or client work with it yet but I've put it through a series of tests at my home and it performs great. High ISO performance is essential to me as a photojournalist focusing on military and law enforcement stories. Lots of scenarios are not only dark, but I have little to no control over lighting and often can't use flash. The ISO performance here blows anything else I've shot with out of the water. Even at high ISO settings the grain is minimal and definitely manageable with the increased noise reduction technology available today. The last camera I used on assignment with the military was a 7D and I thought those photos were decent but the 6D's ISO capabilities have me eager to get out and shoot more just to compare. The wifi function is awesome and useful, and with an Android or iOS device you can use your phone as a remote control and viewer. The wifi does tons of other things that I haven't gotten to mess with yet, but I read through the manuals and am excited to get into it. GPS is not that big a deal to me but I can appreciate its usefulness. The biggest downside is the placement of the controls on the rear of the camera, and even this is just nitpicking. The top buttons are nearly identical to any other canon DSLR but the back configuration is different, and not for the better. Almost everything is done with the right hand and some of the buttons are a bit far away for comfortable, quick access. I prefer the design of other Canon cameras with the vertical row of buttons on the left of the LCD. The wheel and directional pad are combined into one and I haven't gotten used to it yet and continue to make little errors selecting things in the menus and such. I'm sure the button configuration will get to be more comfortable as my muscle memory adapts to the layout. I was also a little disappointed that there is only one SD card slot. I'm not upset that the camera doesn't accept CF cards, but if I'm forced to use SD, at least give me two card slots. I use mine with a battery grip and an EasyCover skin, which had to be trimmed to fit with the grip, but that's no big deal. It looks great and the grip is just something I'm used to and is personal preference. I'm not a videographer by any means but the video quality is good and I feel like I could produce some decent footage with it. I deducted a star for the button layout and limited card slots. This camera is worth the price and outperforms lots of other Canons and Nikons I've shot with in the past. I've shot for years with the 24-105 f/4 lens and it works great with the 6D and is definitely going to remain my go-to lens. Overall, another great one from Canon.

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

This camera, as any analysis you already read said, has an excellent image quality, is very well built, and it´s not heavy. The image quality, according to some sites, is the better in the Canon line, even better than 5D (6D is more sensible to low light, with less noise). If you have a Canon crop sensor camera, it´s no doubt an upgrade you will enjoy, and you easily fell as you have 6D for a long time. One very interesting resource, badly announced (I don´t know why), is the GPS tagging and the map utility. With them, you can keep a track from every place you have been, and later, in your computer, with the map utility software, you will be able to see a red line on the map indicating where you have been. Also, this camera with the built in Wi-Fi, can be controlled with your cell phone. And the EF 24-105 L lens is really an excellent multi-purpose lens (if you´re user of a Canon crop sensor camera and making an upgrade, and you have the EF-S 18-135 lens, you will fell an expressive upgrade in the image quality, but a extreme need to have another telephoto lens: the 135mm in a crop sensor is equivalent more than 200mm in a full frame sensor. If you´re used with the extreme versatility the 18-135 offers, you should think about new lens (by the way, my choice was Tamrom 70-300, 3 times cheaper than EF 70-200 L, but Canon EF 70-200 does not give you 3 times more image quality). The minor issues of this camera: the focus system, maximum shots per second under 5, and lack of built in flash. The focus system is not bad, and in low light is very good, but it really could be better with more focus points and cross points. You probably won´t miss a shot in still objects, but in moving objects, more focus points would be a good improvement. The built in flash could be easily replaced with the EX 90, very light, small and cheap, and solves the fill in flash needs. This flash also controls the EX 430, as a slave unit.Remember: this camera is a full frame, made for those who wants the first full frame, or a second full frame to aid working with 5D. This camera, except for it´s superior image quality, is not as good as 7dMII in the other aspects.

Great camera. Still figuring out how to shoot in low light situations with and without flash without getting noisy picture or over exposure from flash. Lens is heavy

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

As an artist I need excellent documentation (and reproduction potential) of my work. This is a powerful tool that does this job.The 20.2MP ability is the key but the ease of use is icing on the cake. The lens isn't perfect for smaller artwork and close up shots because of distortion but even this can be surmounted simply by backing away from the subject...or a new lens. Christmas present?

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

I have been shooting with a Canon Rebel and knew I wanted to upgrade to a full-frame body so that I could justify buying good lenses -- this is affordable enough for me, and I am not a professional, so really don't need the 5D Mark III. I bought it with the kit lens (24-105 F4 L) and it's a great combination. I shoot mostly interior shots of kids and family, but while I agree that the lens isn't as good at 24 mm as a prime (although stopped down in decent light, it's still pretty amazing), it has opened up a whole world of landscape possibilities that didn't exist with my Rebel. I am in love with this camera and lens combo.

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

I am an enthusiast photographer, actively building my portfolio. I am presently working on an assignment for a class. The 6D + EF 24-105mm is a wonderful combination. I moved up from a T2i with a variety of lenses, including the EF-S 15-85mm. Had about 60,000 images on the T2i. The 6D feels wonderful in the hand, not to big but solid. The low light capabilities are really why I went with this specific camera and it hasn't disappointed. I feel very comfortable shooting at 1600 ISO, or even 3200. What noise there is in the Raw files is easily managed in Lightroom. I've been out in the rain a couple of times already with no problems. The battery is in the grip instead of under foot of the tripod mounting plate. Easily changed on the tripod! I am getting used to the dual control dials on the camera. The dynamic range of the camera is a definite step up. The blacks are glorious and crisp. I haven't tried the GPS or WiFi on the camera yet. The 24-105 is a very nice lens. The operation is smooth. The lens doesn't "auto zoom" when pointed down. It stays put. I regularly handhold down to 1/20 with about ~80% keeper rate. The lens is very sharp with minimal observed chromatic aberation. It is a very useful zoom range from quite wide to ~ 2X zoom. Having a great time with the camera and lens!

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

I wanted a full frame camera, but am impressed by the additional features of the 6D: in camera HDR, great focusing options, wifi, GPS, HD video, and a great 24-105mm lens.

The package offered by B+H is well priced and has some nice high quality adds: Oben monopod, a very nice Canon kit bag, and spare battery.

I shopped for this camera for about a year. Short of a grey market camera, this was the best deal.

Comments about Canon EOS 6D DSLR Camera with 24-105mm f/4L Lens:

Looking for cameras nowadays seems ease, given the massive amount of information regarding all the features of the cameras. However, this is also daunting, for the same reasons. I confess that I was lost. I did want a high performance full frame camera that fitted my budget. After hours reading and comparing reviews, it was clear that Sony sensors (in Nikon and Sony cameras) were outperforming Canon ones. Canon in the other hands have top notch lenses that I was interested. After a lot of ponderation, I chose the Canon 6D. It wasn't ease though. You always have this voice in your head: "Am I doing the right choice? Wasn't the other camera better for me?". However, as I mentioned earlier, I have done my job: a lot of research. Especially research based on my needs (night photography and astrophotography). Also a bit of personal preference (I do like the skin tone from Canons and the camera per se) helped on my final decision. If you are looking for a top performance camera, this camera can do it. Of course, you need to walk the same pathway that I did to really conclude which camera to choose. One word of advice though: take care with very detailed sensor/camera information. Ranking these cameras looks like one will be producing images much better than the others. In reality, all these full frame will produce very useful images to fulfill even the most demanding needs. After sometime reviewing specifications, I decide to look what they are really capable of producing. Check 500px and Flickr. Ask yourself the qualities that you wish in your camera (I know, there is no perfect camera, but some will match most of your requirements). Regarding my Canon 6D: I love it. It is my first full frame, but I am not new to photography. When I bought, I thought to push the camera to its limits, but the reality is that the camera allowed me to push my photographic skills to the limit. And I am really enjoying the outcome. It is definitively a superb camera. As a final note: the kit lens (24-105mm f4) is an awesome lens. I am very pleased with the results and the quality of the lens.
