My EPL-5 and I have been on so many adventures. Beautiful pictures have been captured. I am constantly amazed at what comes out of this tiny camera system. The colors are beautiful, the images are sharp. Over the last few months, this camera has taken incredible amounts of abuse. I never meant to abuse my camera in the ways that I have, it doesn't deserve it. All of the abuse my camera has taken have occurred in slot canyons in Utah. Once, it fell 6 feet to the ground (luckily landing in sand) and sustained no damage. Another time, the camera got knocked into a river and laid there for several seconds. I immediately took the battery out and placed it in a bag of rice for several hours. And by some MIRACLE, it still worked. Not without a few glitches though. The only way I can turn on and off my camera is to take the battery in and out. Inconvenient? Yes. But who cares, it works when it shouldn't work! And then while hiking in another slot canyon, I took a tumble and my tripod and camera slammed into the rock bottom of the river and yet again, my camera got wet. And yet again, it still works. So Olympus makes an incredibly durable camera. I'm not saying that you should dunk it in the water. You should try to avoid that. But this is a quality camera. The images are truly amazing and the camera is durable. I can't get over how small this system is! I actually like not having a viewfinder, I find that I prefer using a screen to set up my shots. Bracketing is an awesome feature and this camera is quick. The only thing that I don't like is not having an extra dial for shutter speeds and exposure and the menu is a bit cumbersome to navigate. Also, I would like an ISO of less than 200. Well done, Olympus. If you're looking for a great landscape lens to pair with this camera, I highly recommend the Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye. It's incredibly sharp.

I an ex-pro photographer turned backpacking guide. My gear goes into the backcountry with me regularly, and needs to work no matter what. I've owned all Canon's for the past 10 years. I decided to give the Olympus PL5 a try, because I was looking for a small but powerful camera, and I was intriqued by the pro level lenses. I used the camera for 2 months without any problems, and issuing non stop recommendations to people. And then the shutter started sticking/not working at all on a trip. Olympus waranteed it, no problems and no questions asked. I get the camera back within the 3 weeks that they promised and it works great during test shots. I take it into the backcountry, and it stops working again. This time the buttons and user interface are going abit haywire, and occaisionally working with serious lag, occaisionally not working at all. I notice the battery is also low, even though I charged it overnight before the trip. At home, I realize the battery won't charge, either through the charger or the via USB power. I'm currently waiting on a replacement battery from Olympus. Their warranty service has been great. When the camera works, it delivers exactly what I hoped for, medium end SLR quality from a tiny lightweight cheaper package. However, in a decade of Canon use I never once had to call customer service, maybe I was lucky. I haven't found a lot of other complaints online, so take this as you will. I might just have a lemon.

Comments about E-PL5 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens (Silver):

I decided to sell my Nikon D7000 to go with a lighter, smaller but still full-featured camera setup. I have 2 young kids so we're already carrying stuff wherever we go and I didn't want the hassle of lugging around a heavy DSLR and lenses. The Olympus PEN EPL-5 is a great micro four thirds system camera for the price point. The reason I ended up going with the Olympus was the combination of price and variety of compatible lenses available to use.

Excellent image quality with fast autofocus. The downer is a confusing, confounding, and frustrating menu system that after hours of work, I have not come close to mastering. You must purchase the electronic viewfinder, because the LCD viewfinder is impossible to use under direct sunlight.

Serious amateur photo guy looking for a compact camera to replace my ailing Powershot. Looked at all micro 4/3s and soon was down to Panasonic and Olympus due to the lens selection. Wanted to keep the cost of the body down so overlooked some really nice LUMIX and PEN-P5 as the sensor and controllers looked similar in features.

I researched cameras for a long time. I chose the E-PL5 based on the specs and the experience of friends and family. I have switched from Sony NEX to Olympus based on the lens available. The articulating display and the manual selection knob helped me choose this over the E-PM2. The build quality is phenomenal. I added an Oly 17mm f1.8 lens and it is awesome. Highly recommended.

I have own this camera for a year as an alternative to my Nikon SLR's. Although not as quick as the SLR's it is so very light and compact I seem to carry it around a lot. It takes great photos. Last week I had an accident and the camera fell from the kitchen counter to the porcelain tile floor. I thought I lost it but I picked it up and after playing around with it for a minute it worked fine. No dents – not ever a scratch. Amazing – this is one tough camera. I had the older 14-40mm lens (from my E-PL1 camera) and the Olympus VF-2 Electronic Viewfinder (you have to buy this) attached to the camera – yes they both survived the crash. I also recommend the Metz mecablitz 24AF-1 Digital Flash – It is just the correct size for this small camera.

First of all, this camera is small, and that's coming from someone who uses an Olympus E620, which is one of the smallest dSLRs available. Picture quality is great though, even with the kit lenses. Focus with the kit lens can be a little slow in low light conditions, but nowhere near as bad as what I experienced with the E520 and E620 cameras. The only thing missing that would make this perfect is a fully-articulated review screen.

Comments about Olympus E-PL5 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens (Silver):

There are very few, if any, complaints about this camera. It has the look and feel of an old SLR camera of yesteryear. I use mine for personal use and the photos are crisp, clear and alive with perfect color. Small enough so that the weight is not a problem, it's easy to hold, and all the features such as continuous shutter and video recording are first class. The ability to interchange lenses makes the camera infinitely more versatile than my old pocket-sized digital. I do find the attachable flash a bit of a pain, having gotten used to a smaller digital camera with built in flash. And one must remember to unlock the lens once you turn the camera on. But on the positive side, these features enhance the camera's overall professional look and feel. This item is one I would have no problem recommending to someone in the market for a new digital camera.

Several months ago I bought a Nikon J3 to fill in between my point and shoot and my DSLR. I shot with it (or should I say tried to shoot with it) for one day. Worst camera I ever used - returned it the next day. After that I was somewhat reluctant to try the E-PL5 but took the risk - so very glad I did. This camera is outstanding. Ease of use, quality of photos, a variety of shooting modes to meet all skill levels of users make this the best all-around camera I have ever used. The kit I bought came with two standard quality lenses (Zuiko 14-42mm and 40-150mm) that cover just about everything I need. I find myself using this camera more and more often for all kinds of situations. Completely satisfied with it and recommend it.

I wish the camera was a little larger as my sausage like fingers can sometimes mess things up.
works great with the articulated screen and closeup lens for photographing coins and stamps.

This is a great micro 4/3 camera. It is very responsive. I was surprised by how quick it was on the shutter, even when all auto features are on. It is a little smaller than you may think. I will be purchasing the MCG-2 Large Detachable Grip to fit my large hands better. I upgraded from the E-pl2, and this is a natural progression from the older camera.

I love that there is no delay between pressing the button and taking the picture. And of course we get all our camera products from B&H. They're the best!

I love this camera. I would not consider any DSLR ever again after using it. The kit lens is ok, but not the best. I also use with an old Leica M Summilux 35mm f 1.4 which I bought an adapter for and old Canon FD lenses.
Photos are beautiful. Manual focusing is simple and exposures are perfect. I also purchased the Oly 17mm f 1.8 which I really don't want to be without. The auto focus is amazing - accurate and super fast. The menu is a little hard to get used to, and the settings straight out of the box leave a lot to be desired. Thankfully any questions you might have can be answered by a quick Google search. Nice in-camera editing options which include creation of HDR images.

Comments about Olympus E-PL5 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens (Silver):

Just upgraded from a, Panasonic Lumix G2, and I find the, Olympus E-PL5, to be just what I was looking for. I owned the G2 for three years, and it's a great camera, too, but with the latest sensor in the Olympus OM-D, also available in the E-PL5, it was an easy decision for me to make the upgrade.

Some of the things I really liked about the G2 were the electronic viewfinder, touch screen, and swivel ability. But, I was now looking for a smaller camera, with the feature set that I liked about the G2. The E-PL5 fits the bill to a, "T"! There are always a trade off, or two, but with the purchase of the, VF4, I still have the use of an electronic viewfinder, and one of the best at that! The tilt screen on the E-PL5 does not match the ability of the swivel screen on the G2 but, it does a great job of doing 80 percent (one of those small trade-offs) of what the swivel could do.

I am just amazed at how small the E-PL5 is. I can fit the E-PL5, four lenses, the included flash attachment, the VF4, and other accessories in such a small shoulder bag/case, and it's absolutely a pleasure to carry around, hardly weighs anything. And, though I haven't been out and about with it yet (just been a week since I received it), I've done some indoor test shots with it, and I am really happy with the results. And, I've seen what the Olympus sensor is capable of from photography websites that I visit.

I'm so happy I made the decision to purchase the Olympus E-PL5, and especial from the good folks at, BHPhoto!

If you are looking for a m4/3 camera, you can't go wrong with this camera, especially considering all the panasonic and olympus lenses out there for this body.

VERY FAST FOUCS GREAT IMAGES WITH 45 F1.8 lens
I bought this to carry instead of carrying my big camera and battery grip.
I like the tilt screen. Can see it in bright sun light with my sun glasses.
14-42 kit lens is a very good for a kit lens. I have the 45 f 1.8 on my
camera 95 percent of the time.
