I picked this up last week and have really fallen in love with this lens. It is very sharp. It is very small and exceptionally light. I also like the optional boyonet hood that Olympus milks its customers for. I like the focul range selector and the fact that the lens is weather/dust sealed.

I have had some trouble focusing in 1:1 mode but thats not the fault of the lens per se. My only real complaint is that the autofocus is slow and results in a bit of hit or miss focus of your subject. This may be the fact it is a macro lens. I usually use the autofocus to get a general focul point then hold my breath and slowly move the camera forward or backwards to get my subject in focus. Occasionally I will fine tune with the manual focus ring. I leave the focus set to S-AF/M on my OMD. The spider shots were taken with one hand on the camera and one hand on a 800 lumen flashlight to light my subject up. Check out some samples below.

Ok, understand I'm comparing this lens to my macro lenses on Nikon (60 and 150). The focus system in the lens is actually very quick, and in some respects alters my thoughts on how to do macro. Normally I would manually focus and then move in and out to get focus sharp. The E-M1 and this lens that doesn't work too well, even focus peaking doesn't help. There seems to be just a slight lag that keeps it from working well.

What I have found though is that the autofocus is much quicker than I would have gotten with my Nikon that using autofocus for macro might make more sense.

The focus range settings on the lens are to say the least odd given the number of ranges. But they did work.

Manual focusing was to say the least not very effective, largely because it was difficult to determine focus. On a tripod this might have worked better.

Overall, for macro, I have to say I wasn't terribly impressed compared to my Nikon. But the small size of the lens lets me keep it in my bag for those odd times when I do need macro.

The one thing I haven't tried yet is using it as a prime lens.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

I use this with my Olympus OM-D EM-1 camera. I have a 30mm macro lens that I use on my APS-C camera and this allows you to work further away from your subject. I use this for taking macro pictures out in nature and it does a good job and is fast enough to provide a pleasing shallow depth of field.

I find the Autofocus limit switch on the lens to be confusing as it has to be reset every time.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

The 1:1 clarity on this little lens is nothing short of amazing, rendering any imperfections, such as neglect-betraying dust, massive and obvious. So subjects should be cleaned thoroughly before shooting. 'Cause ew.Also, this type of focal length requires more ambient or focused light than you'd think, making the depth of field extremely shallow. So a ring light or even the Oly MAL-1 would be recommended.REALLY fun to use.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

I've always wanted a dedicated macro lens, without the inconvenience of bellows or tubes, and the Olympus 60mm really fills the bill. I purchased a clear filter, which is a must have, and the lens hood, which is a semi-must have, depending on your POV with this lens. To be able to go from mild telephoto/landscape to shooting lady bugs with one lens and no fuss, really tipped the scale for me. Mounted on a tripod and using a remote release, I use it for photographing coins, small jewelry items, bugs, stamps, you name it. I also use it to shoot video of dis-assemblies of complex items to aid in re-assembly. This is becoming one of my favorite lenses for all-around use.

Yes this is a very nice macro but, it is also a very capable moderate tele. It renders colors very nicely and is almost as sharp as its 75mm big brother. In some cases I prefer the rendering on this lens to the 75mm.

When I got the lens and took it out of the box I have to say I was a bit shocked at the size/weight... it's SO tiny! Haha... still getting used to micro 4/3 I guess. It may not look like much on your camera but in my experience so far it's been outstanding for all my own macro needs!

The only thing I encountered that I didn't like was that I needed to call Olympus to figure out how to disable the auto magnifying feature that the lens does right out of the box. Turns out, it's a control inside my camera menu that disables/enables it.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

I use this lens on my Panasonic Lumix GH3 for very close and true macro studio shooting.

I had owned the Panasonic 45mm/f2.8 macro lens and for some hare-brained reason sold it. Various net reviews led me to believe that the image quality possible with this lens was near-equal or equal to the Panasonic for quite a bit lower cost so I deceided to give it a try.

I like using this lens. The image quality is certainly good enough for my uses. Like the Panasonic lens, there is a switch on the lens barrel that sets the focus range. I leave mine set to the close focus setting.

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the lens. It is smaller than it appears to be in the photographs you see in catalogs and around the net.

I purchase this lens for EM1 and this is a wonderful lens which has 1:1 ratio. I compared it with Zeiss 100/f2 Micro, and Leica R100 Macro. I could say this lens performance is the same good but much light and small as that two.

From the fit and finish, you can tell Olympus was serious when they designed this lens. It's solid and sturdy. So far, photos are crisp and color reproduction is good. I'm using it primarily on a Panasonic Lumix GH3, and the balance is good... though I recommend you use a tripod. My one complaint thus far is the inadequate documentation. The enclosed "manual" doesn't adequately cover the features.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

I was looking for a smaller photography rig (like many that have made the switch to m4/3) and a macro lens was essential as I love looking for fine details.

This is a TINY lens - think of a skinny Red Bull can. It's even small on my Olympus OM-D E-M1 (especially compared to the 12-40mm Pro lens).

Focus limiter helps you keep the lens from ranging far and wide to focus and the magnifying feature of the OM-D makes this easy to get the focus right the first time.

I've mounted a step up ring to it so I can snap on a Metz ring flash that is light enough to stay on with no issues.

                      Loving this lighter, smaller rig!

Don't forget that with a m4/3 sensor, you'll get a deeper depth of field at a comparable F-stop than a larger sensor. This means more light coming in and more areas in focus (which can mean a lot when you're shooting a 1mm insect!).

A relatively light (though still very long for m4/3) lens that has excellent image quality. The only downside I can think of is that some of the controls on the lens are slightly fiddly (e.g. the 1:1 switch).

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

I've used the wonderful Zuiko 50mm F2.0 Macro for years and thought that it was the best that a Macro lens could get. Well it got better. Since moving to the OM-D series from the E30, the problem of having to use the MMF-3 adapter on the OM-D presented a challenge for focusing, constantly having to use the manual focusing ring. This was much improved with the M1, but the 50MM still had hunting issues when focusing. This is solved with the 60mm. It has a limiting switch on the lens itself which prevents the lens from moving too far and hunting for an appropriate subject. And the bokeh, oh so creamy, never thought I'd say that about a camera lens, but the 7 section diaphragm just makes that background so smooth. Don;t worry about the 2.8 vs. the 2.0, I rarely shoot that in well lit macro shots due to the DoF being TOO short and the 60mm portrait will create, again, those creamy backgrounds. Well worth the money.

Using lens for 1:1 macro and other macro shots outside and in studio. Light weight and small, images are sharp and focus is easy with my Olympus D E-M1 Peaking feature. Be sure to get the lens hood. It slides on the lens body so can stay on all the time.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

I use this mostly on an EM-1 and occasionally on an EPL-5 to shoot flowers and insects. It has enough working distance for the nasty little buzzers! I was used to using a Sigma 180mm f/2.8 OS HSM on a D700 and then a D610; this is as good! The larger DOF with m4/3 lenses is an advantage here as you can use a better light gathering f/9 in stead of f/16 or higher to get enough DOF. The lens is tiny (the Sigma was like a recoilless rifle!) and very sharp. The EM-1 with this lens on it weighs considerably less than just the Sigma lens did!

Not so good is Oly doesn't include hoods with most of their lenses; what are they thinking?

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

This lens is an excellent macro lens. I was looking on my computer at pictures of some flowers when I noticed a fuzzy spot on a petal. On viewing at 100% I realized it was a clear image of an aphid. This lens has great resolution at 1:1 magnification. It also does very well as a portrait lens with very good bokeh at f2.8. It appears to be well made of metal.

Comments about Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:

Excellent macro performance all the way to 1:1. Fast enough at f/2.8 for higher shutter speed handheld shots when a tripod is not available. At 60mm, it is a good, medium telephoto lens too.

I especially like the smooth manual focus that works well with the focus peaking feature on my EM-1 camera.

I bought the lens about a month ago so I can't comment on durability yet. It feels light, but well made.
