When I got my treasured D600, I couldn't help but notice that my right pinky dangled helplessly in the air instead of helping me steady the shot. It wasn't a big deal, but having shot Nikon digitals for years I knew I would have to pony up for the battery grip. Below I'll describe a couple of important considerations, and so bear with me as I bloviate.First, my right pinky is very happy now that it too has a home on my camera, and I also like having the capability to easily switch to portrait mode. But unique to this grip over the one I used on my D200 is that when shooting landscape, the the bottom of my left palm at the top of the wrist fits against the front of the bottom handgrip on the MB-D14 perfectly while supporting any of several lenses I tried on for comparison. When using lenses without VR, this added camera support alone is reason to buy this grip as it gives an almost tripod-like stability to handheld shots. The shape of the MB-D14 doesn't seem to melt into the bottom of the camera as my D200 grip did, but this new shape recesses the controls and attachment wheel in such a way as to offer more protection for the grip. Frankly, I don't care if it looks like a retrofit or not as long as I have that added support on the left wrist / palm I described above. Secondly, the question of why a sane photo junkie would shell out $ for the Nikon grip when I could have gone after-market for less comes to mind. I mean, I didn't buy the ridiculously expensive tripod collar for my new 70-200 F4 ($) after all. I bought a $ knockoff from China and never looked back; patting myself on the back for my sensible frugal nature (cough). Here's why I ponied up for the Nikon grip:Weather sealing on the buttons and switches, and the fact that it has a magnesium plate on the bottom to offer greater protection for the camera and greater stability on a tripod. Imagine a cheap all-plastic grip swashing your precious D600 about on a tripod mount like 'The Bounty' in a storm. Let that image lead you to the 'add to cart' button for the Nikon MB-D14. It worked for me, but seriously, the added camera support for the left palm is the real reason to get this grip and I didn't even expect that when I bought it.

For the life of me I can't figure out what would make this worth what it is. Why is it nearly [$] I wish I didn't need it but I do. It's a very solid construction and feels great in the hands however there are a few things that I do not like about it. The navigational buttons are TINY! The other thing that do not like is that the grip only holds one battery and to access the second battery I have to take off the grip to take out the one in the camera. That does not seem like a bright idea. When I have the grip on, I do not want to take it off at all. It is nice to have the additional shutter button and wheels at my fingertips, but that's the only thing that I like about it. Really, it shouldn't be this much money for something like this.

Serves the purpose and adds to the look

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

This battery grip is exactly what I needed. I wanted to extended battery life - however - I have big hands and I need that extra gripping area to make the camera body feel bigger in them. Mission accomplished....great product!

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

I did not really need the extra battery power but I purchased the power pack to make vertical shooting more comfortable and it works out very well so far.
Good that beside the shutter button it has dials to adjust aperture, shutter speed and button to lock focus. The multi selector button is a bit clumsy when moving the focus point around and need to get used to how to handle. Don't expect something as precise movement as what you get from the button on the camera body. It requires six AA battery if it is not used with the EN-EL 15 one. I usually have two sets of four batteries with me for flash but I need to extend it now if I would like to run the battery grip on AA and use the flash too.

    Excellent Product

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

I'm very happy with my MB-D14 battery power pack, the build quality is superb and having that extra backup power is good, when attached to my D610 it looks and feels like it's part of the camera it really is perfect for shooting in portrait mode.It does add a little more weight ( less than one pound) which shouldn't be an issue for most users, having the command dials, shutter release and AEL control at your fingertips is perfect.

        Better than expected

        By Spot ON

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

I like the D 200 battery lay out the best for the battery power grip. Two in the grip. The fact this only has one and you have to take off the grip from body to get to other battery brings it down a 1/2 pointThe wheels of command are very good. The joy stick function are very good but if made from the same rubbers as command wheels instead of hard plastic would be much nicer. The shape of thumb rest is as comfortable as camera body.If I keep a extra battery at hand the battery tray is fast to load again.Menu in camera lets me choose in grip or camera battery first. The little side key that opens the battery's trays door is nifty. The little rubber doors on camera body above it need the little keys to close their doors instead of friction, more tidy.Love the power grip, with flash and heavy lens makes a big diffrence in camera handling.Try it you might like it.The best of luck!

I love the extra grip this thing gives you. The vertical shutter release and the second command dial are wonderful. The tray for AA batteries is a nice addition as well.

I was a bit concerned about carrying my D610 with a 70-200 lens on a strap connected to the bottom of the battery pack. There is just enough movement with all that weight to give you a momentary fright. But I put it to the test recently walking around the local Zoo all day and by the end of the day I had forgotten about the slight movement.

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

The D90 stored both batteries in the power pack. This one stores only one, and the other is IN the camera body. This means if you ever need to charge that IN-body battery, you have to remove the power pack. Not very efficient. Nikon should have stayed with the D90 design.

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

I purchased it for my D600 and it's perfect. No wiggle room, no rattling of any kind. I have owned and used most of the other generic grips and they do not compare to this guy. Unlike the generic grips, the MB feels solid and the buttons are nice and tight. The MB weights more than the generic grips because of it's magnesium alloy built but this is not a con. I find that the added weight on the butt helps balance the camera now that the body is extended. The counter weight is noticeably helpful when using my heavier 1.4 lenses. Of course, I only learned this after going the cheap route first.

I love this battery pack. Yes some may say, well this is just duplicating a full sized DSLR pro camera. Maybe, but not at the same price. I am out and about for extended periods of time and need the extra pack, plus I have large hands and the grip is wonderful. I had a friend try an off brand and was not happy. I didn't want to go there so I stayed with Nikon and happy I did. I have had absolutely no problems. With this grip you have the extra shutter release button as you would a Pro DSLR

Comments about Nikon MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack:

Although I did get over 700 shots from one fully-charged battery, having the battery pack and an extra set of Alkalines waiting gives me around 2000 images. This battery pack is very well made ... a bit expensive but it really does the job.

Did just what it should, fits tight, works well, two cases for nikon battery or double aa's. Little pricy but you get what pay for
