I was looking specifically for a bag that could hold a 6D with battery grip. This does the job perfect. Actually I can fit the camera in the top with the 24-105mm lens attached no problem.

I am still getting used to the idea I don't need to open the bag all the way due to the "Revolver" -- just as it is named it works just like your loading a revolver but instead of bullets you are loading/unloading lenses.

I really like the top pouch to place my phone. It comes with a number of of places to hook things. Due to weather I have only wore this with my coat on. So far it is very comfortable. I shot two indoor hockey games wearing the back and did not feel any annoyances. I am 6'3" and it fits great.

A great place for laptop or in my case my iPad. It has an extra pad at the bottom that could be removed if you were putting in a 17" MacBook.

Bag with potential for improvement

After having taken out this bag on a short trip and one long day trip I felt that I am in a position to now write a review about it - and I must say I have mixed feelings about this bag. And my main conclusion is that I am not as happy about this purchase as I think I should be given it's price tag.

Frist off I would say you need to see whether this is the right bag for you depending on how you shoot. If you are a person that wants quick acess to a camera from a bag but mainly uses only one lens all day, get a different bag. As the camera here is stored in the top compartment it does not give you quick access to it like a sling bag would. If you are a person that pretty much takes all gear to one shoot and sets up there, get a different bag, as it is actually cumborsome to get to the equipment with this bag as you always have to begin rotating to find your lens.

So I would say this bag is only good for people that walk around with the camera around their neck and that want to change lenses frequently. As it does allow you to change the lens fairly quickly when you have the camera on a strap around your neck without setting the backpack down. So unless you change lenses frequently while on the move this bag makes no sense for you.

Now, as that is the way I often shoot I am actually compatible with the bag in that sense. And if that is the way you shoot here are my pros and cons I noticed from using it now:

Pros:
+ I have the feeling my equipment is safe and well padded in the bag
+ Seemingly good construction
+ It is a compact bag that does fit a lot of equipment (holds my Sony A99, 20-400mm lens, my 135mm prime, and three other smaller lenses plus accesories in the top)

Cons:
- When fully loaded the rotating center can become a bit hard to rotate, making it somewhat more combersome to do a lens exhange with the back slung over your shoulder
- The padded shoulder straps are surpisingly thin for a backpack designed to hold that much equipment weight
- The design of the end of the shoulder pads is incredibly annoying and creates pressure points that will hurt if you have a fully loaded bag out for a while.

Now, let me explain the last point. And maybe that is something you do not have to worry about, as I am a thin 6'2" tall guy with little natural padding of my own. But for me I notice that the bag creates pressure points on my ripcage where the padding ends. I looked at it and noticed that the end of the padding is harder than the rest of the padding as the nylon strap is actually sown into there. On top of that, it only covers half of the plastic adjustig buckle (I looked at my other backpacks as I never had this problem and noticed that either the padding does not cover the plastic buckle at all, or covers all of it... so why Kata not just do what everyone else does where it works?) Anyways, because of that the plastic buckle pushes the already hard end of the padding into your body. If you have a fully laoded pack this gets incredibly uncomfortable after a while. I ended up constantly adjusting my straps from a place where they should be, so that the pressure point would not always be at the same point on my rips. Now, maybe with a different shaped torso this is not a problem (despite I really have the feeling this is a serious design issue of badly shaped padding), but I would recommend you to put the backpack on WITH weight and seeing whether you have the same experience before purchasing it.

The revolving lens holder is the perfect answer for managing multiple lenses in the field.

The Revolver-8 is very well made and comfortable on the back and shoulders.

I use this bag to carry my Nikon D800 with vertical power grip. The bag is not big enough to keep my camera. The wheel compartment design is interesting and handy but not big enough for a larger lens. There is no side pocket for my flash. However, the bag is well built. The laptop compartment is nice.

      Kate Revolver Backpack

      By Photo Dog

Comments about Kata Revolver-8 PL Backpack (Black):

This is a comfortable backpack to wear and it holds my camera with 24-135 zoom and 4 other lenses plus Speed light and extra batteries. However, it doesn't really handle the 70-300 zoom comfortably, it is too long for the space provided. Without that lens, I could put in 2 more.

The biggest problem I found was that the bottom of the bag is rounded so it will not sit on the ground without falling over. It works well enough as a sling bag, but can be uncomfortable to use with a lens in your hand.

It does work well as a carry on bag and the laptop pocket can carry a light coat plus other small gear. And, for the price, it carries your gear well. I am sure there are better bags, but not for the price.

I couldn't get my cannon 5D to fit at all in the pouch. Just to small with my Zacuto rig attached. I barely got the 70-200 cannon lens to fit. I could not get my other lenses(16-35 and 24-70) to fit at all. The bag is way to small for pro gear.I was very disappointed and I plan to just sell it to someone with a smaller camera.

I use it as a camera bag. The revolving turret does perform as expected. Although using it for an EOS-M, which does not have many factory-fit lenses, I use turret slots for often used accessories like the lens adapter. At $ bucks it is great.

The Kata Revolver is an innovative design that should get better in it's next version. Great concept for access to equipment on the go but just a bit undersized to do the job well with mid range
Zoom lenses with hood attached. Comfortable with lighter loads and very we'll built.

I had to turn the revolver until I found the lens I wanted. There is no real way to reconfigure it for the accommodate the variety accessory components,eg. flash or filters. The direciions need to be more conprehensive. The laptop compartment was easy.

Trying to use it now without the rotating lens holder. Im sure I'll find a time to use it and for the price it was good. I won't pay full price....

Comments about Kata Revolver-8 PL Backpack (Black):

this is a totally different concept in DSLR bags. as most photographers I have many bags for different uses. this one looks like a versatile solution to carrying enough gear yet portable enough. well built bag and very comfortable straps.
