After much debate and thorough research on getting a 70-200mm 2.8 lens, I opted to purchase this lens over the Canon 70-200mm IS II series. I figured if it didn't deliver as I heard it did, I would simply return it and get the Canon version. After 20 minutes of shooting at around 6pm with this razor sharp lens in all of the f/stops, I couldn't find a single reason to switch to the Canon version. This lens is sublime. From its solid construction (not as heavy as most people complained it is) to its extremely quick and quite motor while focusing. Focus has been rapid in all the lighting conditions I put it through since that first day of testing. I'm still elated with the new VC technology (Vibration Control) and the fact that the zoom ring was repositioned to being nearest to the front edge of the lens on this upgrade to the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 series.

I have not experienced any softness at 200mm as I have read in other reviews but I will continue to look for that. Maybe I have been blessed with a perfect copy :). This lens renders superb color throughout the picture. This lens is much more than I imagined it to be using it on my Canon 7D. I have tested the VC in video mode and I'm blown away as well by the stabilization or vibration control. AMAZING quality all around!!!.

I love the lens cap design and the hood just fits like a glove and is superior to lots of hoods I have for other lenses. I love the fact that you can actually adjust the manual focus ring while in automatic mode as well. It allows for great video shooting effects.

Not only would I recommend this lens, I will state a few reasons why anyone on the fence about getting one of these should go right ahead and purchase your copy. This lens is cost efficient. You will not find any lens out there with this range, less expensive or one that will deliver all of the qualities this lens possesses.

Although I have never tested Canon's latest 70-200 series for more than a couple shots at the store. I have found the Canon latest version to be way pricey, much heavier and bulky when I mounted it to my camera at the store. This Tamron version is far more streamlined (reasonably sized) and the color being the same as my camera makes me feel more safe and comfortable walking around with it. The Canon version would make me nervous as it is outstanding and most everyone would recognize it to be the L series Canon expensive lens which would make me a target to be robbed. However, I would have returned this copy for the Canon latest version if this Tamron version wasn't delivering, but happily this won't be the case as I am extremely happy with Tamron's latest version. Very happy I took this route first. I figured any slight softness I may detect could be adjusted while editing my pics so it is worth giving Tamron a shot.

Bottom line, this lens is worth more than it costs and I would recommend it 100 percent as it has surpassed all of my expectations. Super excited to work with this lens in my photography business. This is a great investment and I can see why this lens will be my new goto lens :)

I added some unedited pics I took on the first day of testing :)

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

Pictures are sharp, VC works well even at 200mm, and the price is terrific.

I went to the zoo a few days ago and was able to see individual hairs on a tiger that was quite a distance away. The lense has also performed really well for portraits, with the zoom range allowing for quick changes between headshots and half or full body shots.

My only real gripes with the lense would be the minimum focusing distance and maximum magnification. I would love to be able to get a little closer to my subjects during headshots and nature close ups. There have been a few times when I have had to back up during portrait shots as my intended framing was too close to focus.

Right out the box this lens was impressive. I was torn between this lens and the Canon. I am glad that I decided to go with this one for a $ less. I am not a professional so didn't need to spend the extra cash, but when I did show the photos I took with it to a pro, they were impressed. This lens is a little heavy when on the camera, so be ready to use both hands or tripod/monopod.

What an UNBELEIVABLE lens! Just took it on an HONOR FLIGHT where we took 89 WWII Vets to Washington DC for a day, wow, the clarity and color, I'm still just reeling it is so clear and warm. Shoot with a 7D, have used Canon lenes for years. VERY Satisfied with my puchase. B & H shipped on time, well packages, was able to track inbound. B & H also sent me the rebate forms in an email. Way to GO!!! Super Job. Will be buying again from B & H.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

Have had this lens for Six weeks or so, I must say, the Image quality is amazing. Im using it on my Canon 6D. I classify myself as a semi pro. Ive used it for a few portrait sessions and at two weddings. images are crisp wide open at f2.8. Autofocus is quick and quiet.

I would have given this 5/5 stars however, in the first one I got, the aperture blades got stuck and i had "ERR 01", not allowing me to shoot anymore, BH sent me a replacement and no problems since. only having the lens 6 weeks or so, I cant really comment on its overall durability, but that $1000 i saved vs the Canon 70-200 will allow me to get another lens and maybe a speedlight

This lens is simply amazing. I haven't been able to use it much yet, but did shoot a wedding this past weekend with it. My first time using a 70-200, so I had to get used to the weight, but it felt right. Focus is good and very quite.

As everyone says.....it ain't the Canon but it doesn't cost $2400 either. I would be very hard pressed telling them apart. I use it for Photo and Video.

If you are worried about what someone says about not having a white/gray lens on your camera, you're worrying about the wrong thing!!!

Extremely pleased and as always very pleased with B&H!

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I was weighing between this lens and Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II IS USM, which is $600 more at least. After reading reviews of both lenses, I decided to go with this lens because the incremental 'Sharpness' isn't worth the premium. You can go on several photography trips to national parks, buy an array of excellent photography books by using the savings.I use it on my 6D and here are the pros:1.The lens is very solid and well built. You feel the solidness in your hand.2.The focus motor and VC motor are near silent and are quieter than Canon's peer. 3.The ability to get it right on Camera. One direct benefit of using a professional lens like this one is the ability to get it right on camera, which means no time is wasted on photo editing.4.Better dynamic range and contrast by comparing with the images taken by my intro level tele-zoom lens such as 70-300.5.Focus is faster than Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 II USM. 6.Bokeh is very smooth, which is the type I like.Tamron's rebate is very quick in my case. Within 2 weeks of sending the rebate form, I have already received an email from Tamron saying my rebate check is on the way.I definitely recommend this lens if this is your first professional grade tele-zoom. However, I won't recommend it if you already have any 70-200mm f/2.8 or f/4. Unless you are professional photographer and know 100% what you want extra from this lens over your existing already excellent tele-zoom, you are just buying another toy. Spending the money to improve your photography skills by going on trips or reading new books is more rewarding in my opinion.I have attached the unedited photos taken by this lens to the review, ...

there is a controversy about the best 70-200 the market. The canon has a lens that is phenomenal, I do not feed a comparative discussion unnecessarily. What matters is that the tamron lens has exceptional quality and still saves $ in relation to canon. I recommend to my friends to see this lens in action, is simply sensational.

I buy this to replace my trusted Canon 70-200 2.8 (Non IS). I made a lot of research before buy this item and at the end was the new Canon 70-200 2.8 IS or the tamron, and I am very happy with my decision. This lens offer excellent performance and is cheapest than the Canon. I only rate four star because I fell that the canon offer a stronger body than the tamron.

I've gotten some fantastic shots but I've also had some issues focusing. I did a micro adjustment to the auto focus last night which seems to help. When it's on its great. Just hoping the adjustment to the af does the trick.

First non-canon lens. Hoping it is just a learning curve and getting up to speed and my shots will improve.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

We're using the Tamron 70-200 on a Canon 5D MkII to shoot video of talking head interviews.
The lens is heavy, but since all of our shoots are on tripod, weight is not a factor.
This lens produces clean, sharp focus for the subject, and with the aperture wide open, a really nice, shallow depth of field.
The focus and zoom rings are a little tight, but don't jump when you apply pressure. So slow smooth zooms and rack focus moves are a breeze.
