After much debate and thorough research on getting a 70-200mm 2.8 lens, I opted to purchase this lens over the Canon 70-200mm IS II series. I figured if it didn't deliver as I heard it did, I would simply return it and get the Canon version. After 20 minutes of shooting at around 6pm with this razor sharp lens in all of the f/stops, I couldn't find a single reason to switch to the Canon version. This lens is sublime. From its solid construction (not as heavy as most people complained it is) to its extremely quick and quite motor while focusing. Focus has been rapid in all the lighting conditions I put it through since that first day of testing. I'm still elated with the new VC technology (Vibration Control) and the fact that the zoom ring was repositioned to being nearest to the front edge of the lens on this upgrade to the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 series.

I have not experienced any softness at 200mm as I have read in other reviews but I will continue to look for that. Maybe I have been blessed with a perfect copy :). This lens renders superb color throughout the picture. This lens is much more than I imagined it to be using it on my Canon 7D. I have tested the VC in video mode and I'm blown away as well by the stabilization or vibration control. AMAZING quality all around!!!.

I love the lens cap design and the hood just fits like a glove and is superior to lots of hoods I have for other lenses. I love the fact that you can actually adjust the manual focus ring while in automatic mode as well. It allows for great video shooting effects.

Not only would I recommend this lens, I will state a few reasons why anyone on the fence about getting one of these should go right ahead and purchase your copy. This lens is cost efficient. You will not find any lens out there with this range, less expensive or one that will deliver all of the qualities this lens possesses.

Although I have never tested Canon's latest 70-200 series for more than a couple shots at the store. I have found the Canon latest version to be way pricey, much heavier and bulky when I mounted it to my camera at the store. This Tamron version is far more streamlined (reasonably sized) and the color being the same as my camera makes me feel more safe and comfortable walking around with it. The Canon version would make me nervous as it is outstanding and most everyone would recognize it to be the L series Canon expensive lens which would make me a target to be robbed. However, I would have returned this copy for the Canon latest version if this Tamron version wasn't delivering, but happily this won't be the case as I am extremely happy with Tamron's latest version. Very happy I took this route first. I figured any slight softness I may detect could be adjusted while editing my pics so it is worth giving Tamron a shot.

Bottom line, this lens is worth more than it costs and I would recommend it 100 percent as it has surpassed all of my expectations. Super excited to work with this lens in my photography business. This is a great investment and I can see why this lens will be my new goto lens :)

I added some unedited pics I took on the first day of testing :)

I bought this lens along with the Tamron 24-70 2.8 lens. When i got this lens in it was packaged very good by B&H but when i opened it and put it on my new 6D it would not focus. I then tried it on my 7D and nothing, no auto or manual focus. My other lenses focused fine on both cameras. I called B&H and they emailed me a RMA slip and I had it by the time I got off of the phone. I sent it back in and payed the difference for a Canon 70-200 f2.8L with IS. B&H got my returned lens in on Tuesday and had my new one shipped out the next day.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I use this for video on my T5i camera and believe it or not on my EOS M. It looks a little silly on the EOS M but works really well. It's my first non canon lens I've purchased. I own the canon 50mm, 85mm. I've used the cannon 70-200mm and think it a great lens. This is just as great and over $500 less then the canon. It was a no-brainer for me. If you're on the fence about this or the canon and are going to be using it for video I can say based on my experience, just get it, I'm happy I did!

I am using this lens as a portrait lens. I really needed a lens that could maintain its aperture throughout its zoom range but I do not have the funding to purchase the Canon lens I thought I wanted. I am happy to say the lens quality seems great and the picture quality is exactly what I wanted. I would like a little better bokeh but it does a pretty nice job.

More time will tell its full potential but I am happy to have this lens.

This lens is a must have for any semi-pro or professional photographers. This lens is very well build, crystal clear images, and auto focus thats dead on almost every shot. The vibration control rivals the canon IS technology for hundreds of dollars less. Nice work Tamron, you proved yourself with another lens.

Light weight and easy to carry around for upto 6 hours on an event. Used it so far to take over 2800 photos. Focuses well in low light (Nikon D750) conditions. Sharp results and lovely bokeh. If I did not know any better I would think the results came from a $2200 lens.

Buy it .. you will not regret a bit.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I've had it three days and captured about 900 pictures (three soccer games, and and Easter egg hunt.
I purchased it for the f/2.8 to capture low light situations while hand holding and the VC (vibration compensation)is outstanding!
The lens has great AF (auto focus) silent, quick and I don't feel or hear it. No hunting so far and a solid lock-on with the 19 point focusing.
I would buy another if I break this one!
        However, nice six year warranty!
I thought I would have some trouble with the zoom placement but it was not an issue converting to it's forward station, but it's large surface area removed my doubts on this!
It is large, stable, well constructed, and sealed. I shot in rain a day ago with no problems. I like it! No complaints here! Well satisfied!!!

I haven't had this lens very long, but I'm quite happy with it. I have a Canon 7D and questioned a B&H service rep if it's necessary/worth the extra money to have a Canon lens or if there was comparable a Canon-mount lens. He said he'd always been partial to Sigma lenses but he read me the industry reviews on the Tamron and thought it'd be the better choice. So far I've mainly used it for shooting sports in gymnasiums and I'm getting good results.

As a photo enthusiastic, I wanted a zoom lens wide aperture for my Canon 7D. I tried the Canon 70-200 f4 IS but did not like the sharpness. This lens works as a charm in terms of image quality and sharpness. The bokeh is beautiful. The IS is smooth and silent. The only downside is weight of this lens, it is hard to carry this lens in your backpack for longer times. Also if you are used too with Canon lenses then the zoom ring needs sometime to get used to with.

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I have used the Canon equivalent of this lens and loved it. I pulled the trigger and bought the Tamron. I have to say I have been very impressed. I use it in my business as a portrait/wedding photographer. The photo quality is impeccable. Images are very sharp and in focus. The auto focus is slightly slower than the Canon, but minimal difference (think tenths of a second). Overall, I am very pleased with his lens and would highly recommend it!!!

Comments about Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Zoom Lens for Canon:

I just bought this lens today and was I ever surprised. I had the Canon 70-200mm f/4l non is and it was a very good lens. I wasn't worried about a 2.8 at the time when I bought it or IS, but things changed, so I sold it to invest in something faster. I did my homework, spoke to lots of people, and it was a tough one initially between this lens and the Sigma counterpart except for a couple things. First off, the Tamron is sealed. And for me, shooting my daughter's softball tournements will expose it to dust like nobody's business, so the Sigma was almost an instant no. Also, the fact I intend to do lots of shooting on Kauai in October, which is near peak rain season, so again, the seal factor was very huge. The other end of the spectrum was the warranty and the reviews. Oddly, dpreview had no actual reviews for this lens. They sure had the Sigma...So, I came here, AD, and a few other sources...All the info on this lens was better. So I took the plunge.I took interior shots, people shots, outdoor flower shots, and a few of my pets...I was blown away. I use a Canon 700d/T5i crop sensor body and mainly shoot in jpeg mode. The pix I snapped were unreal. The color was rich and not overpowering at any level, the images captured were razor sharp, and the bokeh, oh man. No focus issues, the usd motors are silent, and it's fast, real fast. It makes my 28-135 seem like a plastic 18-55 junk lens. That thing is slow as molasses and noisy in comparison. Some complain about the weight, but do your reading, it's on par with the others in the class. We are talking grams and a couple ounces tops, not a difference of a pound or two.I have to say, if you are really considering a serious lens and don't want to pony $, look at this one, really. I am really happy and very glad I bought it. Now to try the indoor dance recitals and video haha. Enjoy
