Use this on both my Sony FS700 and FS100 camerasmakes it much easier to nail focus even without magnifying the imageI shoot pretty flat images so cranking up the contrast a in the EVF really helps give me a better idea of what I am getting (poor mans LUT) in the manual and description is says something about a real LUT feature but its not there or just not usable in any way... so when deciding on this EVF or not just skip the LUT featuregood size and with a good EVF mount makes using the cameras so much better!!! *I use the Zacuto Axsis, holds it nice and firm so its another point of contact that really helps stabilize a shot but cane pulled around for tripod mode or slider duty Not saying you need the Zacuto but worth it to buy something better than a magic arm or its going to orate on you.Insane battery life, one Sony NP-F770 and having a battery on it makes it super easy to move from one camera to another but it does adjust enough size and weight to push it to need a good EVF mount... for a shoulder mounted camera probably better to just run the included D tap cable to your V mount battery Great to have scopes again!! so nice to have Not just HDMI and SDI connections but HDMI to SDI converter Looks? I have no idea and think it so funny people care... Its a small black electric box with a screen if thats not good enough just get a Bedazzler and go crazy!Color... I was blown away with how bad the color on my FS100 and FS700 screens was when I first turned them on... well same deal with this EVF.... you are NOT judging color with this one (mine has a blue cast) I don't get it, my iPad ($) has great color , higher resolution, and is a freaking computer for $ but I have yet to see an EVF or camera with decent color for less than $25k Its a good EVF built fine (about the same feel as my Sony cameras) sharp, nice features (scopes) solid connections (even the HDMI seems solid enough and in a good spot) fair price The only real negative I can think of is color (same as all the rest) and if you can wait and spend more there are EVFs coming out this year that are said to have great color and even LUT features... if you can't wait, and don't want to spend at least $ US when they arrive just get this one

I work in the professional film industry with lots of high quality and very expensive equipment (Film, RED, ALEXA etc). For my own personal low-budget projects I have recently been using the Nikon D800 in a Run & Gun style for small projects and documentaries. This EVF is extremely useful for focusing and getting spot on exposure with a camera that has limited dynamic range and relatively lousy lenses (for motion picture anyway - great for stills).I am happy with the price.I am extremely disappointed with the engineering as far as the strength of the body especially the 1/4"-20 female jacks. It is like an afterthought. Attached to the body with very tiny screws (look at the picture carefully). If you tighten an Israeli arm or ball-head with just a little too much force those screws with shear right off. Secondly the battery plates are weak plastic and the Sony batteries I have been using are loose on the plate, I have to tape it up or use small bungees to keep it tight. Finally Cineroid customer service is NON-EXISTENT. I have been trying for months, I cannot find the battery plates anywhere and they have basically told me "good luck (chum)".Well Good luck to you folks out there. The product has amazing potential and I like it very much except for those annoying issues.

Perfect EVF for BMCC setups

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

I got this EVF primarily for use with my Black Magic Cinema Camera. It powered up and previewed like a charm right out of the box. It will display focus peaking, and grid overlays from the camera via SDI, and also has it's own focus peaking, false color, and exposure info settings as well.

I also frequently shoot with Canon DSLRS (I own a 7D MK1), and my LP-E1 batteries powered this guy right out of the box (All adapters needed are included).

This EVF allows me to shoulder mount my BMCC and keep the weight of the camera directly above my shoulders (previously I've had to mount the camera way out in front of me in order to see the back screen of the BMCC). It's allowed me to operate way steadier, for way longer. And since the large BMCC camera monitor is now past my shoulders, it allows someone to follow behind me and pull focus using the in-camera monitor (With a FF and wip of course).

Overall, this has performed exactly as I hoped it would, and seems like its going to be pretty versatile between different camera setups.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

Using this with a Blackmagic Cinema Camera and it works very well. It has modes for 1:1 pixels, focus assist, false color, exposure and vector scope. I was having trouble judging exposure and focus using the back LCD of the camera, especially outdoors, but this nails it. The eyepiece hood comes off and you can view the 4" monitor without it. You can adjust the position and size of the scopes, etc. in the viewfinder too, so set it up the way you want it. I like this better than the Zacuto which I've also used. Some nits -- it's kinda bulky and could be visually more sleek. Using with a Canon LP E6 battery and the battery gets really hot when you run this continuously, so much so that the battery case expanded and this battery no longer fits in the battery compartment of my 7D. Runs for about two hours on one LP E6. There is a mini-XLR for external power and comes with an XLR to D-Tap, but my external batteries don't have D Taps. So think about how you're going to power it. Would prefer a straight up 2.5mm DC jack as input since that's kind of a standard. It would also be nice if the focus peaking were confined to the image. As it is, the peaking color also appears around the frame counter so hard to see how long your shots are. Suggest getting an HDI cable with some flex to it -- the one I bought is stiff which makes it hard to loop it around my shoulder rig down to the output on the Blackmagic. The function buttons are in a vertical row on the left side of the finder, but they're very small and had to find by feel. Make them more tactile. Overall, this wasn't cheap but it works well and I would buy it again.

Delivers great image, the vector scope, focus peak, audio levels and other tool are very helpful. What i didn't like as many others have said is the quality of the material. Very cheap plastic and the locking system sucks, it breaks quickly and easy.
I had a problem with the LCD because it was exposed to sun and i tried to call costumer service and they never answer, either phone or email.
I wish i bought the alphatron.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

                Pros:
                -Resolution
                -live waveforms and vector-scope
-even windowed down, the resolution is enough to reliably pull focus (better than zacuto at full screen!).
-small and sleek. Some say it is ugly, but it is the smallest of EVFs, and it ends up looking less cartoony than the ballooned size of competing EVF's.
                -low lag compared to competition.
-Aspect ratio lines are easy to use.
                -4 user programable buttons!
                -Sony batteries last for hours
                -light

                Cons:
-flip and rotate image is a two step menu driven process
-Canon LPe6 batteries are not very stable on back mount. (the lpe6 in general is not very stable. They fall off the back of Zacuto EVF too)
-diopter lens not as nice as competition. ymmv

I have used this for a year.

My main comparisons are with the Zacuto and SmallHD. If you are thinking about the Zacuto, save yourself, and get this (they are the same price). Should be a bunch of new EVF's coming out in 2014, but this is by and far the best deal if you need a pro EVF, and will last into the 4K world.

The Convergent Design Odyssey 7, seems like the best deal on a monitor, as it records multiple video formats, as well. But until a company invents a recording EVF, the Cineroid EVF is the one to get if you really need a viewfinder. The only other viable pro HD evf is the Alphatron, but the Alphatron is not better. Some like the way the exterior looks, but despite nicer lines and smooth edges, it is over sized and silly looking to me.

I give 5 stars, because Cineroid delivered a high resolution EVF with professional features in a durable, sleek, and light package, that has yet to be topped by any other 3rd party manufacturer.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

I'm a freelance cinematographer and use this EVF both on my personal camera and on nicer rental cameras. I love its versatility in terms of inputs (HDMI and SDI), and the plethora of battery plates available, and find that features such as peaking, waveform, and pixel to pixel make it much easier to focus and judge exposure during run and gun situations. My only gripe with this EVF so far is that the add-on bits such as the battery plates and loupe feel a bit cheap and plasticky for a purchase of this price, but I have experience with some other EVFs in the same price range and have similar complaints about them as well. All in all, quite satisfied with this investment.

I had tried the Alphatron and the Cineroid Retina at IBC. I end up buying the retina because of its nice contrast and sharp picture over the Alphatron. Somehow, it reminds me the Oled look. It holds the exact same amount of pixels so they are both sharp...but this unit do loop through and has many features such as waveform and vectoroscop to name a few. Great buy.

If you can, use BNC connector instead of HDMI. It wont disconnect as easily.

I use the viewfinder on Nikon D800 and Sony F3.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

It's well known that if you plan to shoot outdoors with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, you'll need an EVF, as the LCD is nearly impossible to see on a sunny day. So it was just a matter of choosing an EVF. This one seemed to offer the most bang for the buck, so I went with it. What's nice is it is not just a viewfinder and lcd, but also has a waveform monitor and vectorscope. I've only used it on one shoot so far, and I haven't even gone into any of the settings yet, but I'm sure I will get to all that soon, and grow to like it more over time.

One problem with the Blackmagic Camera is there is only one SDI connection, so you can't have an EVF and a monitor at the same time. I was considering the SmallHD 7" monitor which is about the same price as this EVF, but as mentioned above, you NEED an EVF to see outside. So, that, along with the fact that this can act as a monitor, albeit a small one, made me choose this product.

When you consider this is half the price of the Blackmagic Camera, it either makes this product look very expensive, or the camera seem extremely cheap. Thinking the latter helps me sleep at night. Would have given it a 5 if it was built a bit tougher, or more affordable, but overall, I've been pleased so far.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

The image quality is more than enough to pull focus from but i´m having a hard time adjusting the color to match my BMCC lcd.

I´ve also tried to reach Cineroid regarding firmware updates and LUT instalation but with no success. Cineroid apparently does´t care all that much about their clients.

                      amazing little peice of equipment.

I didn't understand the LUT fuction, very little (read: no) documentation on that.

everything else is easy and intuative.

(read all of the manual before you try to update the firmware, you might brick it otherwise)

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

I use this with a BMCC camera via HD-SDI and it works very well. Be warned that the other HD-SDI Cineroid EVF that is less expensive (I think [$]) doesn't work with the BMCC as it won't accept 1080p signals - but this one does. The screen is sharp and the various battery options are nice, too. I'm using the Sony NP-F570 and two of them will make it almost all day. The menu is detailed and gives you a lot of control, but it's look and feel are a bit dated IMO. And the overall look of the EVF is a bit clumsy also, but it's performance has been good so far. Make sure you have a Noga arm or a cage with EVF mount or similar. I considered the Alphatron as well, but it's [$]more and so I went with this one and I'd recommend it.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

Yes its very ugly but the scopes and Retina display are very useful and the reason I purchased its EVF must have with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera or sdi camera's. includes lots of powering options.

Technically this unit is pretty competitive. But I can can't stomach it's design, had to go with the Alphatron.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4RVW with Retina Display:

I bought this EVF based on specs which are very good. BUT, fit and finish of the unit is terrible! The plastic clip together shade, IMO would not last a day of shooting. I found the retina display nice but the optics on the finder cheap and the adjustment poorly made. The finder has lots of features like wave and vector scopes, that good if you need it. Then there is mounting it,. All that is include is a cheap ball head. I ended up buying the Kinotehnik LCDVFe finder because although the Cineroid had better features, the Kinotehnik LCDVFe mounting to the camera is brilliant and the image was plenty good to focus by. another factor was that the Cineroid used 3.5watts compared to 1.5 for the Kinoteknic. I do miss the SDI input but most of the cameras that need a EVF have HDMI anyway and the cameras that only have SDI have great viewfinders like the Alexa.
