I'm a pro photographer using both the Canon 5D MkIII and Canon 7D professionally, and the Rebel T3i for travel/vacations. I recently purchased this lens because I wanted more reach than I could get with my Canon EF 24-105L. As soon as I got this lens, I put it to a very simple test: how well would it render a small, tabletop subject shot hand-held? I think the attached image speaks for itself. I set up a couple of strobes with reflectors for this test, and mounted it on my 7D. The image is sharp and the colors true with good contrast. I was very pleased with this result. The image stabilization performed well, too.Next, I shot a wedding with this lens on my 7D and the 24-105L on my 5D3. I was very impressed at how well the images shot with this lens compared with the far more expensive L-glass.In short, this lens is a great value for the money, and I look forward to using it a great deal more in the future, both for paid and personal use.

Like the roving focus area, but it can kill your work if you are not mindful.
Had a hard time w manual focus if the initial focus is way off. Like the weight and zoom range. I am still used to my old zooms, found the auto zoom too slow when shooting in low light. Prefer my 18-55 or old 50-200. Will keep working on it.

      Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

      I'm relatively new to the DSLR world and got this as the kit lens with my T5i. This lens provides really great, sharp photos with the help of the IS system and the bokeh I get with a wide aperture is lovely. The STM autofocus is quick and virtually silent. I tried a couple videos with it and you couldn't hear the focus at all.It seems a little on the heavy side but I guess I am not too experienced with many other lenses so I don't have much to compare it to. It feels solid and well-built.The wide-angle capabilities when zoomed all the way out are great as well, though I haven't used it as much for those applications yet.Overall this is a lens I will keep around for a long time and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a solid combination of wide angle and moderate telephoto capabilities.

        Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

        After reading posted reviews for this lense, I purchased this lense for travel, wanting a bit more reach for my Canon 7D than is available with an excellent EFS 15-85 mm lens I already owned. I agree with other reviewers that this lense is equally sharp, and the image quality is high across its range, although it is not quite as capable in low light due to the smaller glass size. Some reviewers appeared to be commenting on the non-STM kit version of this lens. The lack of manual focus ability when the camera is powered-off has not been a problem for me.

                I purchased this lens for my daughter to use with her T3i. She has only had the lens a few weeks and has already sent me some of the most amazing shots she has captured. This lens captures quality like many lenses for twice the price.

                I have sense added this lens to my wish list at B&H as an upgrade and to replace two lenses.

                And as always, customer service was very helpful.

For a cropped sensor camera, this focal range provided me the utmots in versatility. I rarely take this lens off my camera now. Really worthwhile purchase.

                        Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

                        I used to have the 28-135mm Canon lens and always thought it just wasn't wide enough to be useful on a subframe camera. The 18-135mm is a great intro-level lens. The 18mm end is wide enough to do a lot of things indoors and the 135mm end is long enough to do most things outdoors; especially when compared to the dinky 18-55mm that comes with most cameras. For those reasons, I really recommend it for someone who is getting started.

                        For the more advanced folks, this is an incredible lens for videos. The stepper motor (denoted by STM) is really impressive. The lens elements move very little inside as it focuses (meaning fast focus) and it is extremely quiet. It seems to be built for video (but is quite usable for stills). I don't feel like it is getting the same workout doing the constant refocusing that is required for video. I got this lens as a kit lens with a 70d and was thinking about selling it until I started playing with it. I kept it because I think it is _the_ lens for shooting video and it will complement the other lens in my bag.

                        Lastly, this lens is different from any other lens I've owned. To make the STM work, they mechanically disconnected the focus ring from the lens elements. As an engineer, I think this is pretty neat and fairly unique for lens makers.

                        Overall:
                        * optically: it isn't impressive
                        * versatility: reasonable all-in-one
                        * best use: shooting video

                          Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

                          My full-frame 5DIII and L lenses including the ubiquitous 24-105L were unavailable, and this lens was purchased for use on my 7D as an interim solution. Considering the large zoom coverage (7.5x) the lens delivers really good picture quality with not distracting flaws, in a wide variety of situations. The auto-focus and IS are ultra-silent and worked very effectively. The build is not to L specifications, but neither does it feel flimsy. The max aperture going down to 5.6 on long focal lengths is limiting for some uses but for outdoors applications this is a non-issue. Pity it doesn't ship with the lens hood.

                            Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

                            A very universal lens from star trails to great portrait shots. Focus is fast, but motor noise is a bit loud for movie making, but then external mikes are a must for filming. A little vignetting seen at the corners at the widest angle. Zooming during movie making is a little jerky, and I would recomend a dual puller to include the focus. F/5.6 in low light during a full zoom is a negative without increasing the ISO. Otherwise, this is a very good lens for beginners and pros without breaking the wallet.
