Comments about Nikon 1 V2 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens Kit (Black):

I am a D800 and D300 shooter, but found the V1 to be an interesting and capable camera. This purchase of the V2 was a move to gain better usability in the nikon 1 series. The V2 has proven to be more flexible in varied shooting situations and allows quicker changes to shot parameters and less chance of accidental changes. The camera is an excellent performer and I am happy with the purchase. I was not interested in the V3 because I do not wish to have to deal with the separate viewfinder.

Comments about Nikon 1 V2 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens Kit (White):

Great point & shoot but technology has not yet allowed smaller sensors to replace larger ones. Limited low light capability (but way better than a cheap P&S) unless you use flash, which doesn't help for more distant landscapes, etc.

Noticed reasonably large jump in picture quality when shooting RAW vs. jpeg-fine. Although this is not some great revelation, the differences between the two on my DSLRs are less noticeable. If you use a computer (necessary for RAW), try it.

This camera is loaded with convenience features (not all of them) and is very attractive and lightweight. It won't match a high end DSLR but is leagues ahead of a smartphone camera. Battery life is OK unless you're going away for over a day. The EVF is clear and meets our needs for a real viewfinder, important since it was a gift for my wife who wears glasses and wanted a quality camera for her own use. A viewfinder, optical or electronic, was a must have feature.

It gets 5 stars because it meets or exceeds our expectations for its genre. If you want better photos, be prepared to carry around a larger, heavier camera.
