Comments about Morris 111375 Maxi Slave Flash (Black):

This small simple manual flash is reliable and has the features I was looking for.

It has a metal insert in its base in front of the hot shoe that accepts a 1/4"-20 threaded screw mount so you have a solid attachment point to the flash, much more robust then using the hot shoe. The Giottos MH 1004 Mini Ball Head is a perfect fit and is more than strong enough to hold the flash in any position.

The built in slave works but is not super sensitive and does not work with "digital" cameras or flash system that use a pre-flash. The built in slave is located on the back of the flash which is not very helpful for me as I use this flash mostly for a RIM or side light so the built in slave is pointed away from me and does not "see" my main flash. I made a short custom PC to household-female cord that I put a Wein optical slave in then rubber band to the flash so the optical slave faces the front of the flash.

The one shortcoming of the flash is that the PC connection located on the side of the hot shoe is mounted is such a way that a standard Paramount PC-female cord will not fit into the PC outlet. The cord is too thick and is blocked by the flash body. Even a long tip Paramount PC-female cord does not work. The flash does come with a PC cord but it seems rather fragile. The Pocket Wizard cord fits fine.

Working with this flash reminds how much I hate the design of the PC connection. If Morris put a Household-female sync outlet on this flash it would be perfect.

Comments about Morris 111375 Maxi Slave Flash (Black):

I used it on a second camera to shoot an event. It was lightweight and recycled quickly; and the batteries were easy to change out.
