There are so many things to like about this lens. I've been looking for a new walk around lens for a while and I did not have a huge budget. This lens fits the bill. Whenever, I use it, I keep saying to myself, "I really like this lens!" The lens is well made, does not feel cheap and is fairly light weight. Bokeh is amazing as well and depending on the situation, you can get some nice effects even at F5.6 which I was surprised at. I think my only slight criticism is that occasionally it can be a little slow to focus in tricky lighting or closeups but it's not a major compliant. I would highly recommend this if you can't afford L glass which was the case with myself.

I love my Sigma 18-35 1.8, but I wanted something with more range, that was still wide. I figured I would try this 17-70. It's not an ART lens, but I knew that, and I knew it was 2.8-4. However I though that it would stop down naturally when zooming, like with my video camera, instead it's like digital hard stops. Now I'm often just reframing, but this is still jilting, and also it sometimes seemed the camera was trying to compensate for this, even though I was in manual mode. I just figured it would be a loss of light while zooming in, but I almost wonder if this thing could be 2.8 all the way, except for whatever communication it has with the camera that makes it stop down to 4 on the long end. Conspiracy theories aside, this lens has a great range for an APS-C camera. I used it on my 70d and 60d. Images are sharp, colors look great. It's not full time manual, meaning you can't try to adjust focus when it's AutoFocus mode, it makes a noise if you try. I can do this with my 18-35 though, without breaking it.I really got this for video, although for stills it would be great too. I just needed a way to cover more range without having to constantly switch lenses and possibly miss shots. I just can't get past f4, at least not on the 70d, and if I was stuck at f4 and down, I would probably get the 24-105 Sigmaa. This lens worked pretty well, but I definitely found myself using a 2.8 lens more, especially for indoor work, or of course the 1.8 18-35 Sigma. If you keep your work stopped below f4 anyway, this might be a great lens, but just expecting more from Sigma at this point. Why not fixed at 3.2 or something?? That I could buy into as an Art lens.

I did a lot of research before choosing this lens and I'm so happy with my decision. Very versatile, fast and sharp. You can do beautiful venue shots with available light, it has macro capability and works well for portraits. Love it. If you are not able to foot the cost of a canon lens, this is a great option. A great match for my Canon 60D.

A very happy match for my new Canon 60D body. I shot most of my last wedding with this lens. I spent a lot of time shopping on line. Ideally one might want a Canon lens, but third party lenses are a great way to go if you cant foot the price tag of a Canon Lens. I love this lens, its wide enough for venue shots, fast enough for great quality images in low light and works well for portraits. High quality lens. I am very pleased with the results and more importantly, so is my client.

I matched this lens with my Canon 60D. I have been using this lens for the past couple months for landscape and wildlife photos in S. W. Colorado. So far, I really like the color that I get in my photos. The only problem, which is slight, is the focus at 70mm. Some photos are just not clear. However, his may be an issue with the lighting I work with here in the mountains or settings I use and not the lens. I have to work on this. I am not a pro nor can I use fancy language as others to describe this lens. I can just say I like better vs my Canon lens.

Comments about Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens for Canon:

The Sigma 17-70 is one outstanding lens. My primary use for the 17-70 is for underwater use used in freshwater situations as well as salt water. This has become my "workhorse" lens because of the great image quality, close focal length of 8.5 inches & it's Macro capabilities. This Sigma lens fills a need where a wide angle lens is just to large of a total viewing area for smaller subjects found and the macro capabilities are outstanding as well. The only thing that I don't like about the lens is....absolutely nothing. The images are extremely sharp. The auto focus is very fast & accurate. There is no lens creep due to the rugged construction. The construction of the lens is far superior when I have compared anything made by Nikon or Canon.

Solid construction with an elegant look. Probably not a professional quality lens, but its not far off (being fixed at 2.8 throughout the zoom range would be awesome). Super quiet, super quick focusing. The business end is very large at 72mm, it kind of throws you off at first, but you will get used to it. I've only had it for about a month, but its been a great replacement for my 18-55 kit lens and I don't see a need for anything else in this focal range (other than prime lens). This is my second Sigma lens and I'm very satisfied with what they did with this model. It's worth your consideration at this price point if you are looking at this focal length, especially with that aperture.

Comments about Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens for Canon:

A great value. I shoot landscape a lot and this lens produces very little lens distortion at the wide angle. It's fast aperture allows me to get the backgroud blur that I desire in portraits and the macro is banging. I get all of this versatility in one high quality lens and at a great price. I love it.

Comments about Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens for Canon:

I shoot a lot of sweet 16's, barmitzvahs and other indoor events. I need a versatile, lens that focuses quickly in low-light and plays well with a flash. I was working with a 24-70 2.8 on my 5D classic but when I bought a 7D, I needed something wider. This lens is perfect! Every once-in-a-while I throw on the old 24-70, but I prefer this lens. It is sharp, fast and good. This really is the perfect mid-range lens for a crop sensor camera!

I did not buy from B&H only because its available for a lot less (Sorry B&H Welcome to America) and 3 days delivery . Bought direct from Japan. This lens is awesome in low light, great with video, solid and super sharp picture. I am a novice and compared to my kit lens this is a big improvement. The lens cap is garbage and falls off, that is the only thing I can find wrong with this lens.

I bought this lens for First Holy Communion pictures in church with low light. Pictures came our great with NO flash with Canon T3I. Also used it for taking sunsets and I was blown away with the colors and NO flares. I love this lens, and the price was good too.

I had been looking at this lens and wanting to get one for a while and finally went and bought it. So happy I did. Went to a garden show over the weekend and got some really beautiful shots. Tack sharp images, fast autofocus, good OS. Took some shots of my grandson in low light situation and was very pleased with results since this is one of the resons I purchased this lens. Would definately recommend this as a step up from a kit lens.

Using this on my Nikon D7100. I must say I shot a wedding with it. I got fantastic results! also used it for video. its not made for fast/quiet autofocus in video (no swm) but if shoots great video as well. for the price its so worth it. Fast autofocus for pics. you can spend 900-1300 $ on a lens but the difference is not worth that extra 500-700$+ in my opinion. you get your bang for your buck
