First, I'm very sorry for the below clumsy English sentences because I'm not a native.I had 35yrs experience in photo world, but not a professional. Although enough I know my skill is of no artistic value, I can do some, in taking a photo, using a wide variety of skill sets based on long-time experience and studies. BUT, I think this PS N camera automatically makes several shots revolutionized our common sense. Of course, we know we could get same results with some cameras equipping art-filters, but good timing for shutter is very limited and setting art-filters via camera MENU button, as many people knew, bothers us on good shutter chance. PS N helps me undergo a photographical metamorphosis without no chore (considering framing, many art-frames, exposure settings). Of course PS N also has a lot of shooting modes and we can install many Mac/Win Applications, I do not use these yet. I only do touch a LCD monitor just on my impressive target, or push lens, on good timing. My work is the above only, after several seconds, I can get some unbelievable, unconventional results automatically !!In last, as many know, this's a toy, however, help us being fashionable photographers. Only one limiting of this device, someone said, is the lack of RAW data, but I believe we should use PS N as a casual and super toy camera, no need RAW retouch jobs.

The PowerShot N is based on Canon's successful S-Series cameras. The bottom line is you'd be much happier with one of those models (S100, S110, S120 or those that follow) for the same price range. The images and video are comparable but the interface on this camera is really clunky. There is no conventional shutter button. You have to press one of two tightly spaced rings mounted around the lens. Forget using this for a shutter and turn on the "tap to take" feature on the touch screen. The nibs on the sides for a camera strap are always in your way and prevent setting the camera on a flat surface for certain kinds of shots. They've removed these nibs in the new N2 version. The model I got was supposed to have a dedicated button to connect the WiFi to my smartphone but, instead, came with a Facebook button that is of no value to me. Connecting the WiFi to your smartphone is a clumsy procedure that's really not worth the effort. Others have commented that this version lacks a screen that can flip up 180-degrees for selfies. This error in design was also corrected in the N2 version. Otherwise, it's a good looking camera with solid Canon quality. It's a heavy little beast too. I almost wish they'd made it out of plastic and included a weatherproof housing to make something that would compete with the GoPro. The battery life is poor and the LiON battery can only be charged in the camera, as equipped. So you can't use it while it's charging unless you purchase a separate battery charger.

Comments about PowerShot N Digital Camera (Black):

I bought the Powershot N to convert to a waist level only camera, after seeing an online write up of how one person did the same thing using a block of wood as the "body". The newer N2 would be good for that too.

I like the way I can shoot 1:1 format (square) like a film Hasselblad. Cool!

The ring release lends itself nicely to that mode of shooting, by the way.

Image quality was much better than expected. At ISO 3200, there is considerable smearing from built in noise reduction, but the images look about the same as most small Olympus cameras at ISO 200 or so. At low ISO speeds, you're getting fairly crisp and detailed image, with noise only in the deepest shadows, and only objectionable when pixel peeping at high magnification (100 percent). A little extra sharpening from your photo editor software is tolerable and yields very pleasing results.

Colors are typical Canon, which are fairly punchy and vivid. Desaturation is available, again, on your photo editor (whichever one you're using).

What I don't like....

The "auto flash" mode resets itself to "AUTO" every time you power up or change modes. Canon missed it on that. The built in flash is useless unless you set your camera to ISO 1600 for shots at about 8 feet, and ISO 3200 will get you about double that. I prefer to just shoot without the flash, and avoid very low light with this camera - as the "auto" feature kicks in at inopportune times when ambient light is just fine. Its easy to set the flash to "OFF" every time when using any other mode than "Program".

You can't set the ISO except in Program mode. I love the "Monochrome" mode. The contrast is low, and you can bump it up to your hearts desire with your photo editor, if you like. Out of the camera, the black and white (or sepia or blue/selenium) images remind me of creamy "to die for" images you'd get from Plus-X film (or Verichrome-Pan). If you could set the ISO, some really wonderful black and white images could be made with the PS-N. Outdoors is no problem, but indoors in bright areas where the quality of the light is often really nice, presents difficulty with higher ISO being selected.

Battery life is not the best. I'm used to shooting EOS-5Dii and EOS-7D with grips and two batteries. For the PS-N, I'll just get a spare and external charger. It helps if you do your shooting, and then do your downloading all at once, as Wi-Fi tends to put additional drain on the battery. Battery life is not terrible though, and the camera charges rapidly from wall plug or power port in your vehicle (adapter needed, but you might already own that for your phone).

Thats it for the "don't likes". Really, those are nit pics. Great images are the norm with the PS-N. I like it, and would buy another (or an N2) without hesitation.

My own use - on a block of wood shaped like a Hasselblad film body, its going to be a camera "just for the fun of it", and I'm looking forward to getting that little project started.

I have been shooting for over 45 years, Canon film and digital SLRs, film and digital Leica M, film Hasselblad and 4x5 formats, and am sort of retired from wedding and event photography, love wildlife photography and old school images, so consider all of that when contemplating my review!

I purchased this for an upcoming photo book where I will have to move the camera remotely into a scene. Am impressed with the touch screen and how It can trip the shutter by just touching the screen. Quality is very good in good lightening. I probably need something that has complete manual mode.

Comments about PowerShot N Digital Camera (Black):

Though designed as camera to get images to cyberspace quickly, I hark back to the days of street photography using a twin lens reflex camera. We looked down into the viewfinder at waist level, and so the subject often did not know they were being photographed. The way this camera is designed, it actually works quite well as a modern day waist level camera, and very easy to get candid street shots while not being noticed. I am enjoying this application.

Comments about PowerShot N Digital Camera (Black):

I bought 5 of these to use in a research project involving high framerate, high-dynamic range, capture under CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit). The CHDK port is very young, but as of a few days ago works even with the 240FPS video mode. Basically, I'm using it as a programmable industrial camera, and the small form factor and touch screen actually make mounting easier. As for people buying these as ordinary hand-held cameras, it's not such a good deal. I've found that most people can't locate the shutter button (it's around the lens) without being shown how it works, and it takes nearly as much effort to figure-out how to hold the camera. The wifi support seems deliberately minimal, perhaps not even as good as an EyeFi SD card in any other camera (the N can't take an EyeFi card; it's microSD). A variety of other aspects all favor the more conventional PowerShots; I'd even recommend the ELPH115IS over this as a pocket camera despite it being about half the cost.In sum, this camera seems intended as a fashion statement more than a camera, but it has high-functioning guts that can be programmed using CHDK and the minimalist packaging fits that type of use. It's actually an excellent camera, but make darn sure you're ok with the strange form before you buy it.

I almost always have a camera with me. The quick start manual had me worried because it sounded like a camera designed for the inept but the full manual on CD revised that opinion. This is a conveniently small camera but it is a full featured camera with an eight to one zoom and fairly good low light capability. From the first it took some very good pictures with it.

Comments about PowerShot N Digital Camera (White):

I would give this camera 5 stars- but the fact the adjusting the zoom and executing the shutter happens most of the time. The shutter release is too sensitive and just giving the zoom a small turn allows you to accidently release the shutter.
There is no way to turn off the manual shutter release. The touch monitor shutter release is far superior than the Nikon's and works really well. And it can be turned off. The zoom accuracy and sharpness is very good. The wireless function works well-but you have to turn off the firewall on the computer to use it. I would reccommend this camera-but not to people with big fingers. I bought it for my wife and it works well for her.

The PowerShot N can be clipped to your belt in a case next to your cell. You'll never wish you had a camera when the need arises. Forget about the stills and vids your cell phone takes. No comparison to the quality the tiny Canon N will give you. The controls take a little getting used to but once you do, it's like anything else, becomes easier with use. This is a very versatile camera that does a lot of amazing things. Worth every penny I paid for it. Get a case, an extra battery and a large fast micro SD card and you'll be set to capture all those situations you missed in the past! Enjoy!

Comments about PowerShot N Digital Camera (White):

I bought the PowerShot N a few weeks ago and I'm rather impressed with the quality of the images it produces. Now, I would recommend this camera to friends and colleagues but I do have some reservations. Let me offer those first:

This camera is small and light. It was designed as a substitution for camera-phone photographers and, as I said, the image quality is great. But the Wi-Fi feature hasn't fully developed. I've programmed my camera to connect with my iPhone and my iPad; there are two ways to connect. You can either program the camera to connect over a wireless system or you can use the camera's own little Wi-Fi signal to move photos to the digital platform. What I cannot figure out is how to publish images directly from the camera to Social Media sites including Facebook and Twitter. To be honest, I'm hoping that a firmware update will ease this problem, but you never know.

Other reservations: The flash has a range of about two meters; the zoom ring is kind of awkward to use; and the picture button is actually a ring located on the front of the camera but I found myself using the touch-screen option more frequently.

Now, I purchased this camera because I wanted something small, light and easy to use. This camera has the Digic 5 chip in it, which takes amazing images (the sensor especially loves the color red). It also shoots video and the video images are good but the audio is fair. Also, after shooting a 5-minute video, I noticed that the camera was a little warm.

About the size: The width of this camera is a little bit smaller than the standard width of a bank card. The LCD screen on the back of the camera is excellent AND actually raises up so you can look down on it to take pictures.

Also, this camera uses a MINI-SD card.

I own a Canon 7D and an iPhone 4 and I wanted a camera I could carry with me to take snapshots. My photography buddies call these "drop cameras." I bought this camera because I think most camera-phone images are trashy (and often reduce the battery life of the phone). This camera is really the perfect size. It fits in a tiny camera case that straps to my belt buckle and I wear it like a holster. During these last few weeks, I've found that this arrangement is serving me very well.
