Functional, user friendly camera that is just plain FUN to use. Got mine about a month ago after several days of reading reviews, and so far it has exceeded all my expectations. Image quality at low ISO is very good, with sharp details...and amazing color rendition when white balance is fine tuned. It will never replace my D7100, but it is very handy when you can't or don't want to lug around the DSLR and assorted lenses. Even when I do carry the Nikon and backpack full of lenses lately, the X20 is almost un-noticeable hanging around my neck, and has really worked well for those "get it quick" shots that might otherwise be missed. With all the controls and features found in most DSLR's I do not consider the X20 a "point and shoot" camera. The optical viewfinder with info display is a real plus, another feature that puts it in a category above "point and shoot". Quality of construction is excellent, very sturdy and finished nicely. And last but not least...it looks really good ! (The only downside I have found is short battery life...if you are a serious all day and or night shooter, you WILL NEED extra batteries!!! I ordered several extras, and keep them with the camera in a small carry bag.)

This is a really interesting camera. To be fair, I've only had it a bit less than a week.

I upgraded from the Fuji X10 because the slow autofocus on that camera drove me up the wall. I also wanted a viewfinder with actual feedback. With the feeble autofocus on the X10, there was no way to know if the focus was going to be useable from the viewfinder. That's a problem when the ambient light is too strong to see the LCD display.

Am I glad I upgraded? Tough question. Yes, the autofocus is much improved and I like the enhanced viewfinder, though the automatic eye-detection seems a bit hit and miss.

But the sensor has changed. The X10 image quality had an indefinable dreamy quality to it. The image on this camera is harsher and more contrasty, though admittedly I have not had time to really dial it in.

The high ISO performance also seems degraded, and I miss the EXR function. I believe Fuji has used the same technology from the X100s, so they must have de-tuned it for this lower-end camera. I really hope there will be a future upgrade to the firmware to get the X20 to at least deliver similar quality to the X10.

Overall, the problem with both of these cameras is that their true appeal is in the amazing form factor and build quality that is the undeniable reincarnation of the film rangefinder. While these camera's IQ does blow away most other point-and-shoots, ultimately, what your heart desires out of them is that old 35-mm film quality, which you definitely don't get. And to step up to the XE-1 or X100s is a bigger, bulkier form factor, and more money than a dSLR.

The filter size is also annoying. 39.5-mm? C'mon! Fortunately, a 40-mm filter will fit, but that is not easy to find, either, and you definitely need a protective UV filter out front. Which renders the nifty lens cap useless, however.

Great if you want to shoot with something between a smartphone and a DSLR. The overall quality of the camera is solid and I would recommend for anyone who wants to take creative control of their images while traveling but does not want to carry a DSLR with them.

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Black):

This camera creates better images than my large DSLR. I've had it a month and am pleased with the quality of construction and the images I've been able to take with it. I think it is especially good for the price. It is small and very portable. It's true that you can hardly pick it up without touching a control button or dial -- but that's simply a result of having so many features packet into such a small camera. I read as many reviews of the camera as I could find before making the purchase decision. Some have claimed that the battery wears down quickly but I haven't had that problem (although I did buy an extra battery just in case -- they're relatively inexpensive). I've used a pro level camera of one kind or another for more than 30 years and this little Fugi compares well. I will need to spend more serious time studying the manual because I can't really see the significant differences between some of the camera's various modes -- they seem kind of redundant at first look. Again, I haven't really studied and experimented with them all yet; but the manual could do a better job explaining them. One last criticism is that when shooting in Manual mode the exposure info is shown on the display screen, but not in the viewfinder. Those of us used to making the settings and seeing them through a viewfinder would prefer to retain that ability. But this is a small criticism -- the camera is a great one. I've really enjoyed using the incredibly close macro features to take botanical images -- I'm very pleased by the images the Fugi produces.

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Black):

I am delighted with my purchase of the Fujifilm X20. It is extremely well made and handles very nicely. I like the fact that is has a slightly larger sensor than many of its direct competitors, e.g., a 2/3rd-inch sensor that's slightly larger than what's in the Canon G15/G16 and and others with the 1/1.7 sensor. The camera feels nice in my hands and looks great. I especially like how I can hold down the OK button for several seconds and this will lock many of the control buttons on the back so one doesn't inadvertently change settings without knowing it. I really like the mechanical zoom ring, which is much better than the electronic zoom toggle switch found on many high-end point-and-shoot cameras, and I really like the fact that it has a very well designed optical viewfinder with eye sensor. I bought the accessory Fuji-branded lens filter, made especially for the X20. It screwed right into the filter threads on the Fuji lens. It also came with an optional lens hood, which I didn't install. Just the filter was all I needed. And one other thing. The pictures I have taken with the X20 have been spectacular. The camera is not a DSLR replacement, but it is an exceptional walk-around camera. It's light, but built extremely solid, and it handles nicely. The only thing I do not like is the charger. It works fine, but the prongs do not fold into the charger. This makes the charger a bit bulkier than it has to be.

What a wonderful camera. I usually work with a Canon 7D, and here I found a small camera with quite the same quality level. An huge avantage is its small size and its retro look. In NYC it was perfect to take discreet shots everywhere... And the quality is incredible. Pictures are sharp and colours are wonderful. Black & white is astonishing. A real good investment.

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Silver):

Appologies for the confusing text above, I can't work out B&H's text editing ...

There are now plenty of reviews and comments about Fujifilm's X20 all over the internet. There is nothing I can add about the quality of this seberb little camera that has not already been read by most people interested in this camera.
Except perhaps to ask the question: "when will Fujifilm include a comprehensive index at the back of the owners' manual"? Also, better battery life remaining reporting.

What I would like to say is how excellent the service from B&H. 5 Days from NY to my home in Hamilton, New Zealand, and with a great tracking system to boot. Thanks B&H.

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Black):

I like to carry a camera with me everywhere but I have always been looking for something with the feel of a film rangefinder- small, discrete, and responsive. With the X20 I feel like all of my needs have been met. The camera is solid, stable, has a usable viewfinder, fast zoom lens, great image quality, and a responsive shutter. It turns on quickly and allows me to react immediately to a changing situation. I love the way that the display turns off when your eye goes to the optical viewfinder.

I have only three quibbles: battery life is not great, OVF meter does not show you how many stops off you are, and Info display is a little busy.

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Silver):

I travel to some amazing places in my business and I like having a quality camera handy to take some nice pictures when I get some free time. Taking my DSLR isn't a practical option, but this Fuji X20 is perfect. It's small enough to put in my shoulder bag, but big enough to fit comfortably in my hand. And it takes fabulous pictures.

There's a lot to like about the X20. In particular, I like adjusting the zoom on the lens barrel, and I like having the option of an optical viewfinder in situations where glare on the LCD screen is a problem.

Mostly, though, I like the jpegs it produces, straight out of the camera. I've owned more than two dozen cameras in my life, including Hasselblads, Leicas and numerous Nikons, so I'm spoiled when it comes to image quality. Having the X20 in my bag is like having my old M-series Leica ready at hand - but better.

My only wish for the X30 would be a lens that starts at 24mm instead of 28. Get to work, Fuji!

Optical viewfinder is always 'on' and fast, but the lens will stick into your view when you compose (but not in the actual photo).

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Black):

I was initially looking for a simple point-and-shoot camera to take on a summer vacation as I didn't want to take my DSLR kit (overkill) or my Fujifilm X-100 (too precious if lost). The X-20 seemed like a good solution - I knew the quality of Fujinon lenses and I figured there should be a fair amount of similarity between the X-20 and my X-100 such that the learning curve would be minimal. I have to say that the aesthetics of the camera's design are about as appealing as the X-100, and in the hand it feels really nice. But to actually USE the camera - that is where things get ugly. For starters, there are far too many buttons on too small a piece of real estate, and the end result is I found I was frequently activating, deactivating, or otherwise changing this or that configuration every time I picked up the the camera. I had read about the problems some have had with the power-on switch sometimes not engaging, and I did get that every now-and-then, but frankly that was not as annoying as I thought it might be. What was annoying, however, was that I found several of the menu settings that simply did not behave according to the description in the User Manual; it felt as if the firmware, which was the latest available, was pretty buggy. And finally, the image quality was seriously lacking - especially when shooting at any ISO above 400. I honestly think my cell phone (I hate cell phones) takes much better pictures than the X-20. Especially annoying was how the display would inexplicably become way over-saturated and blown out. By the time I was about to give up and go to bed, the (once fully-charged) battery died. I finally became so frustrated trying to learn and use the X-20 that I returned it (B&H is so understanding in that regard) and exchanging it for the much more expensive, but familiar (to me, at least) X-100S. To be honest, I might have lived with the X-20 had it not been for the really disappointing image quality; that was the ultimate deal-breaker for me.

Let me get this straight,I own the Fuji XE1 and love it. So when I was searching for a smaller fun camer I got the X20 thinking I would get similer pictures to the EX 1 boy was I wrong. Low light portraits with available light was no good, and using the flash was no better. Overall image quality is poor and could have gotter better quality with a much cheaper camera. I am so ready to trade it in.

Rather than toting my Nikon D3 around(which I do less and less) I can take my Fuji without a thought eg. is this a sketchy neighborhood?.IQ is excellent.I've owned Fuji hs 10 and 20, but this is a whole new ballgame.Best feature "it makes photography fun again"

A classic rangefinder look to this camera and practically no shutter click until you activate quiet mode then it is completely silent.
Super sharp lens and I'm loving all the different modes that are available to use also enjoying the lowlight performance.

Comments about X20 Digital Camera (Silver):

Have been looking for a couple of years for a small camera to supplement my Canon 7D, when I want to travel lighter. After several attempts (Canon S95, Samsung 2000) I realized I needed a functioning viewfinder, good control dials and a large enough sensor/aperture combination to make a DOF difference. The X20 is so far the best combination I've found at a reasonable price. None of the features on their own are best in class, but the combination is. The viewfinder is not as good as a DSLR, but gives enough shooting information and a good enough framing of the scene to be comfortable to a DSLR shooter. Yes, you do see the lens at wide angle, and you're going to get more of the scene in the final image than in the viewfinder, but it's better than a Canon G series. The lens is fast through it's zoom range and coupled with a sensor that's in between the Canon S range and micro 4/3's gives reasonable bokeh such that having manual controls actually matters. The build and controls are excellent, and the manual zoom is a nice touch that automatically puts DSLR shooters at ease. The ability to program more than one function buttons would be nice, but the Q menu is fast and all functions can be adjusted from one screen without having to dive into deeper screens.Image quality has been excellent so far. Some distortion at the wide end of the lens, but otherwise very sharp. Have not pushed ISO personally, but based on other reviews will be trying to keep to 1600 or below, which is generally fine for casual street shooting.I was skeptical about other reviews regarding battery life, but bought a second battery anyway. All reviews on battery life are completely accurate. My X20 was practically dead after shooting approximately 30 pictures and 15 minutes of video yesterday morning. While I didn't expect DSLR battery life, I did think I'd be able to go 1-2 days, but that is not the case. Buy one or two spare batteries! Finally, the last negative I've found is a lack of automatic exposure bracketing beyond +/- 1 EV which is not enough for HDR work. The manual dial on top allows up to two stops, but the AEB function is limited to one. Seems like an odd place to limit the camera.Great camera, not perfect, but the best combination for DSLR photographers looking for a travel companion.

I have a bir reflex digital pro camera (canon markii). it is not easy to go around and travel with a big camera and accessories. The X20 is a very good option if you want a compact second camera with manual controls. i recommend buying a second battery

Just a really great all around camera. Lots of options. Sold my DSLR gear and went with Fuji. Will probably get another Fuji in the spring. I do a lot of street shooting and this works well.
