This lens is razor sharp wide open, with lovely OOF characteristics, or what the experts on the net refer to as "bokeh".

Like the 19/2.8 and the 30/2.8 Sigmas for the E mount, this lens is destined for cult status—an accolade made even more amazing considering its truly inexpensive cost.

These three lenses are the basic kit for all NEX owners, I feel. AF is fast; MF aids on the NEX 6 in particular allow you to focus accurately on a sitter's iris, and be certain you have nailed focus.

My only reservation is the new shiny finish of the focussing barrel; I prefer a bit more grip, but I will get used to it.

I returned this lens due to really loud noise emitted when normally handling the lens. It was as if there was something metallic inside the lens totally loose.

Before returning, I mounted it on my Nex-6 and took 2-3 pictures. When mounted, the lens was much more quiet and the quality of the images appeared OK. There was still some noise though, and I assume this would be picked up if one was shooting movies.

Too bad, as it is light, small, and appears well made.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Silver):

This is definitely sharper than the Sony 50mm 1.8, although without stabilization. It is small and fits well on my Sony 5N. I wanted a couple of fixed lenses to use with it. I also have the Sigma 30mm. The only downside is the slick focusing ring, if you plan to manually focus. If not, that's a non-issue.

A great lens. Sharp from f/2.8 and just briliant at f/5.6

The Sony 50 f/18 is on the shelf now, and probably will stay there.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

The first thing I noticed about this lens is the impressive extreme sharpness, and ability to focus real close. There is an internal rattle when the camera is turned off, but it does not seem to affect anything and does not bother me. The only issue I have is the pronounced flare when shooting backlit images. I was able to fix it in Lightroom because it is even, but I find it quite bothersome. I used the lens for three months before this happened to me.

I would easily give this lens five stars if it was not for the backlight flare issue. The sharpness is amazing.

Great with my NEX 5N. Don't need a viewfinder now that I can AUTOFOCUS.VERY SHARP. Those are the things I like (UPPERCASE). Has a squeegy noise when focusing, don't know if that is normal or a sympton of something that is going wrong, but has it since I opened the box, so I assume it is OK. My photos are sharp and it is fast focusing.

I really have that finally i have a modern lens that has AF with a Sony NEX 5 N . Since i don't like the Sony lenses this is a heaven sent. The 60mm is perfect because in outdoors i can focus in a general direction, since you can see nothing on the NEX screen. The only cause of concern is a squiggy sound i hear while focusing. Hope that proves to be normal.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I normally shoot Leica and other premium glass on the NEX-7, and also shoot a Nikon D800E. I am extremely picky about sharpness. I took some test shots with this lens at f2.8 and was fairly blown away with the stellar image quality (just as the Photozone graphs depicted). I have tried a number of the Sony NEX lenses and was alway disappointed (with the exception of the 10-18mm f4). This lens, however, is a winner! I cannot believe the incredible cost/performance ratio. This is a must-have portrait lens for the NEX system. Also, the bokeh is quite pleasant.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I bought this after the 19 and 30mm lenses I have from Sigma for my NEX. They are a great and compact kit I have taken with me in several trips and hikes. And they produce amazing results for the price. I emphasize "for the price" because there is nothing in this price range with the IQ I can get from this little gems. The 60mm is not exception. I dare say it is sharper than the other two in the center from wide open. And sharpens a little more down to 4.0. The corners are so-so in all the three lenses. That is less important with the 60mm, because I have bought it for portraits. The corners don't seem to sharpen up stopped down. Flare is not that ugly and that is solved if you use the hood. Bokeh is nice. The only thing I would change is the focus ring. THe slick design is flawed. Mine is full of fingerprints. But it is well dampened and manual focus is easy.

I have been a user of the 19mm and 30mm primes from sigma on my 5N.

They are an outstanding cost-benefit and have amazing IQ.

I pre-ordered this from B&H as soon as I heard about it.

It was no mistake. The lens is amazingly sharp. Even sharper than the other two to my eyes.

              The bokeh is smooth.

The rattling noise is the same when the camera is off.

The only thing I did not like is the focus ring. It is slippery. But the build quality is a step above the other lenses in the sigma prime line.

              A very good buy

Bottom line is that if you want to take pictures of your subject up close and dominating most of the frame, this is a great lens. I used this on my Sony NEX-3N.

Just because of the lens design, you need to be fairly far away from the subject to do close up shots. Not necessarily a con, just what the lens is.

Overall I would highly recommend this lens.

I am using this lens on Sony NEX-5N.Optically you cannot ask more at this price. It is a very solid lens (metal construction) except lens hood (plastic). Personally, I do not like very wide and slippery surface of the focusing ring, but functionally it moves very smoothly and nice dampen feeling. You feels something rattling inside the lens when it was off. If you turn on the camera, there is no rattling inside the lens as other sigma DN lens for NEX.It seems like shaper than 19mm or 30mm Sigma DN lenses and even sharpness throughout the image. It comes with a nice lens case.If you like sharp lens, I highly recommend it.

Comments about 60mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I am considering Sigma 30/2.8 DN (original) as my second favorite lens, after Zeiss ZM Planar 50/2.0. So, after Sigma announced 60/2.8 DN, I pre-ordered it from B&H without any single doubt. May be it was premature - without any detailed reviews, MTF graphs (by 3rd party) but with such reasonable price, it was not such big gamble at all. Today lens arrived. Packaging - step in right direction from 30/2.8 (I) - got soft case and lens hood. Feel - nice decent piece of equipment. Solid. Even focusing ring is not made out of rubber, still easy to use, which is very important for me, I am shooting 99.99% using manual focus - old habit from Zeiss ZM, plus NEX-7 focus peaking makes it breeze. Hood - nice little plastic, little bit stiff to fit but reversible, let's see how it will go in future. Rattling when camera is 'off'? - Yes. It still there, I do not care about it. It did not bother me on 30/2.8. When camera is 'on' - silence. Tested AF, as good as it gets, no complains. Huge thanks to Sony for releasing E-mount specs to everyone, so no compatibility issues with NEX-7.

Ok. Now let's move to real stuff - Image Quality. On NEX-7 60/2.8 - feels like 90/3.5 (from focus distance and bokeh). Yes, I would prefer 60/2.0, so it will be 90/2.8 but it is what we got, no complains. Sharpness? - OMG! I am crazy about sharpness, so I was impressed. May be it's not a good for portrait lens, but it's what I like. It is simply superb! Sigma - EXCELLENT JOB!!!!
Bokeh - There are many opinions as people on this planet but I am like it. I think it is smooth and creamy. My main reason for purchase of this little magical lens was portrait, mostly head and shoulders. This lens fills my requirements perfectly. At 2.8 - subjects stands out in 3D way, very similar to ZM 50/2.0 shoots. Of course when you will try to make full size shoots and want to significantly defocus background, you will see limits of f/2.8. (For this kind you will need Zeiss ZA 135/1.8 - king of bokeh!).

Bottom line. Sigma did it again! Perfect hit in 'Portrait' department. Light, sharp. I would highly recommend it. I do not own Sony 50/1.8 but from sample shoots what I saw, Sony is way softer.
