I am a certified professional photographer. I make mostly studio portraits and some outdoor portraits. I bought this meter to replace a Minolta flash meter IV that I have used since the 80's. I was displeased with the cheap case due to the fact that it doesn't have a flap to cover the top of the meter. Overall, I like the size and features of the meter and the screen is readable in full sunlight. I always shoot an in camera custom white and I already own the passport classic, but I wanted to try the camera profiling so I bought the package. Sekonic's software is not perfect. It took a while to figure out how to save several profiles into the meter. I still haven't figured out how to edit the clipping points on a saved camera profile. The meter gives accurate readings resulting in easy editing. I didn't buy the 758 due to the fact that I don't use a reflected meter reading.

I purchased the L-478D specifically for measuring flash and for the %flash and delta EV (Contrast Function) features which are not on the L-308s.

Unfortunately with flash measurements the delta EV display is less than 1 second in either flash mode. (ambient mode displays delta EV while measuring button is held as expected) The importer expects a future firmware update should fix this but don't know when. The firmware version 18 in this unit should not have been released.

Otherwise the unit functions as advertised but since half of the functionality I expected is unsatisfactory I have decided to return the L-478D.

Comments about Litemaster Pro L-478D Light Meter and X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card:

I use this for both outdoors and studio work, and find no downsides to its use. In the studio I use it for portraits and product photography, and in the studio I use it for landscape photography. However, I don't use it for travel photography.

Comments about Litemaster Pro L-478D Light Meter and X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card:

I think a light meter speaks for itself but I love the "ColorChecker Passport" and use it to set custom WB and it works exceptionally well.
I also have not used the meter enough just yet to fully eval it but I love what I have seen so far. It will get plenty of use in the coming months!

Decent construction on a spot meter. Only gripe is that I have to cup the screen to read the display with ease when using it outdoors on a bright day

The color checker tends to be too warm. Frustrating since it is suppose to be more accurate. Still playing with it.

Comments about Litemaster Pro L-478D Light Meter and X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card:

I'm still new using the light meter, but I'm happy so far. The Sekonic software to calibrate it to a camera usnig the Passport has so far been hit or miss. I was successful with one setup, but the other produced a rather meaningless error message (which probably made sense to the programmer), and online info is lacking. It seems to track well for my 5DIII, though.I've had better luck with the ColorChecker Passport software (Lightroom plug-in). New profile definitely looks different from the Adobe set, and seems to be more accurate.All-in-all, I'm happy with the purchase, and the price seems reasonable.

Comments about Litemaster Pro L-478D Light Meter and X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card:

All in all this is a good product.I was surprised by its smaller size and weight compared to other meters and it does not feel like it could take much a beating. The touch screen takes some getting used to, it is not like other screens your used to. It should be called a Press-Screen because you have to apply a little bit of pressure to it for the buttons to react. It has so many useful tools and I'm sure if your a photographer its probably even better. I only shoot video so I tend to stick to the Cine and FC modes. The interchanging of the lumisphere to the spot meter is a bit cumbersome if you are a video/film guy and have the budget you may way to go for the 7** cine model which has you in mind more and also has the spot meter built in which is much nicer then fumbling around with these to thing in your hands. this meter + the spot meter and your about $ bucks away from the Cine model I mentioned but if your just starting out this puppy will do you well.

I am an avid hobbyist and I am expanding my interests into portraits with a portable lighting studio. I have a Canon 7D and three Canon 430EX ii strobes. Because the Canon 7D can control the strobes wirelessly, I went with the L-478D light meter. This light meter has made a big difference in the quality of my pictures. I should have done this sooner.

Comments about Litemaster Pro L-478D Light Meter and X-Rite ColorChecker Passport with Sekonic Gray Balance Card:

This is my first light meter, and I am quite pleased with my purchase.

The included software needed to be updated (twice for my Windows 7 computer) and there was an update to the firmware of the light meter itself, but the update process was simple and straightforward.

I was able to perform the calibration of the light meter to my Canon 60D, though I wish there was more documentation or some sort of explanation of all the options and settings included. I found several Youtube videos which were very helpful in guiding me through the calibration process and Sekonic has a digital manual available on their site.

The touch screen of the L478D does not react the same way the screen on my phone does (the meter requires a firmer touch, for instance) but it didn't take much getting used to, and I haven't had any trouble with it.

The ColorChecker Passport seems to be very well put together and feels like a quality product.

I did encounter a problem when trying to use the ColorChecker to set up a custom color profile in LightRoom 4. For whatever reason, the Adobe Lightroom Plugin was missing after I installed the software, leading me to eventually resort to downloading it from the xrite website and manually installing it.

In my case, I did a Google search for "ColorChecker passport lightroom 4 plugin" and the xritephoto.com page containing the file was the first result. I then created the missing "Modules" folder (C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules) and saved the missing files there.

In all, I found the documentation to be a little sparse, and the initial setup of the Adobe Lightroom Plugin troublesome, but I haven't had any trouble with the meter itself. I would probably rate the meter at 5 stars, but my experience trying to solve the problem with the missing Lightroom plugin, would probably rate closer to 3 stars. That said, once the plugin was installed creating the custom color profile was quick and simple, and has had positive effects on the photos I've used it with.

excellent lighmeter! you should buy one! The touchscreen is not the same type as iphone, but you can use with no problem. I had to choose between the sekonic 758 cine, but in brazil the CR123A battery is dificult to find, and the sekonic 758cine is to old, and much more expensive.
